Hopes and Predictions for the Upcoming Codex

Recommended Posts

And besides ... Russ is the best and it'd shame all the others. :tu:

Agreed :P . It would be very cool to field a Primarch but it would make any other form of HQ redundant.

Oh was in GW Stockport the other day and have been told that space wolves will definitely be out this year from a staff member there. However as with all things, take this with a pinch of salt.

Also deviating from the topic slightly, my friend told me the other day that Russ & the Emperor had an argument one time and that Russ hit the Emperor and so the Emperor knocked him out for a few months.

Now I'm wondering where did he find this out? I don't remember reading this in the codex? Also if this did happen, what the hell were they arguing about?

"I DON'T WANT YOUR SODDING SPEAR!" :P

i would just like to point out that a primarch does indeed have a profile.

angron of the world eaters was released just a few months back in the liber apolyptica (whatever) in the WD. stats and all.

but most chaos players whine he isnt powerful ENOUGH.

Pun Pun grants my cleric spells

And Angron was always a pushover. His stats reflect this perfectly well. Works as intended.

Hehe, just had an awesome thought: Assault Speeders. Land Speeders with Init and Attacks characteristics. Equipped with Power Weapons instead of their underslung hvy weap mount. Can move up to cruising speed, then assault. Kind of like a Jump Sentinal (or dreadnought, but with less armor), but actually just some crazy Grey Hunters that took a speeder for a joyride. Take em in a unit of 1-5.

Or Offensive Drop Pods. Instead of reducing scatter, they land much like a Monolith, displacing whatever is beneath it and inflicting d6 S6 Ap- hits. Enemy may Death or Glory the pod, in which case the DoG model also suffers d6 S6 Ap- hits, as the thrusters cook him (the DoG attack still is performed).

Smash our pods right ON TOP of the enemy. Might as well, right?

Regarding the 4-9 LF and pack leader, :cuss? Long Fangs are pack of Wovles that have been whittled down due to attrition. Remember, Space Wolves do not put new members into the squad. That explains why a BC pack is larger then a GH and LF.

I'd say 1-4 LF + PL. But give them "Move Through Cover" or other bonus cover rules since they are old and pretty cunning. So when theyre in a building ruin of 4+, the rule will grant them +1 to cover save = 3+ and if they decided to go to ground then the cover becomes 2+.

You know, the thing that I hope most for our new dex is they don't try and make it like most new dexes coming out: in a "stupidproof" style

A squad comes with 5 men for x pts

you can add 5 more for x pts

you can have a special weapon w/ the first five

you can have a heavy weapon with the next five

the sgt can only upgrade with this, this and this

Part of what really makes a wolf a wolf is, surprisingly enough, the ability to actually read a dex and understand what it means when it says "one in every three models", and "wolfguard can take upgrades from the wolfguard section of wargear." The greatest strength of the SW's is the customization that we can give each and every squad, sometimes down to the single members of a squad. We dont need stupidproofing, and I hope that GW avoids that, so we dont get a lot of bottlefed whelps running around the fang going "my GH's will combat squad!!!!" Screw that. I just want a dex that says "take the old dex, keep it, use C:SM for all vehicles except vendreads. figure the rest out on your own." I actually WANT to have waited through 2 f'ing years of rumors for a 1 paragraph dex. As the American founding colonies said, "dont tread on me".

Never mind the fact that he has to be taken with at least 4 Bloodthirsters as a BODYGUARD....yeah, so not powerful enough...

i've lost my fear of angron and his BT cronies as i see how awesome storm shields are...

I was fairly certain that BC's were assessed individually and when they reached the wisdom for Hunter status, they were transfered to a Hunter pack that'd suffered losses or what not. Long Fangs were the oldest of the Hunters that, for whatever reason, didn't merit Guard status, and so were sent packing with Heavy Weapons.

And we need the "Stupid-proofing" to protect us from the stupid of outsiders who can't understand simple wording. I was told for ages that the WGBL couldn't select WGBG heavy weapons until it was finally FAQ'ed. Spell it out, so I don't have to find opponents with half a brain because, honestly, the world's all gone too stupid for me to rely on.

Oh our codex will get dumbed down and I have a distinct worry that we'll be hit hard from the fluff angle. Messing with squad sizes and leader options, weapons and wargear, rules and all sorts of our special stuff getting messed up, changed and thrown around not to mention stupidly powerfull characters that just make the game inane and pointless. I hate the return to Hero-hammer with a passion yet that is exactly what is happening apparently and the few leaks at GD Baltimore just seem to afirm those worries. We got some of the best at GW working on our Codex and still I have a feeling the'll muck it up. <_<
as a trend the actual army list part of the codex's since the eldar are drawing from the 2nd eddition codex's ,i feel certain both grey hunters and blood claws will be 10 man squads with a sargent (wolf guard) leading them as to the bols rumors i realy dont want bjorn to be av 14 ist just wrong that a dreadnought even one of the oldest in the imperium is that well armoured in my opinion what makes bjorn the fellhanded cool is his fluff about serving with russ etc,i have a hard enough time in some circles using my wolves as they feel they always lose vs them as is with out the new dex hyperbole as well....i just want a good fight

I agree with this wholeheartedly. 40k is already known by many as the idiot brother of WFB, and I dont like the direction the codices are going. I like my armory system, and I enjoy my mathematics.

I think Bjorn the V/Dread should have some more unique abilities,so he stands out from the iron clads as well. Also for us lightning claws should be cheaper. Finally our scouts who are VETERANS not novices should be tougher & wiser !

GOD BLESS .........................V

I really hope they have wargear options like in the Previous codex and not the supidproof of IG and SM but I dout it. I would like clear rules though. I would like the HQ limitation to change to 1 HQ for every 20 SW instead of a Point value. As that gives the same fluff while making it much easer to build an army. GH should have bp, CCW, Frag/krack , and a Bolter probably dropping True Grit. +1ws for Blood Claws and Ferious Charge instead of beserk Charge. Iron Priests should be more have the repair rule of techpreist. And some point tweking all around except for Wolf Scouts witch are perfect just as they are.

I Dout I will get my wish but if most of these changes happen I will be happy.

OID,

I completely disagree with you on this, and I, for one at least, am looking forward to the same "clarity" in future codices as we've had in the most recent ones. I've been playing this game since Rogue Trader and for years one of the biggest complaints with GW designers has consistently been that they write rules that are "unclear" and often use language that is "ambiguous." This trend has always led to an excessive need for FAQs and errata to untangle the web of inconsistencies in the rules and army lists. Although their products are certainly not yet perfect, the games designers have done a significantly better job in producing clearer guidance in the 5th edition rulebook, and the most recent codices.

As to the need for stupidproofing, again I disagree with your assessment on whether we need it or not. I see threads here on the Fang almost every day where someone asks a question about how things work, or what options are allowed. This will be much less common with a codex written in the new style.

To the story of Emperor punching Leman Russ in the face - I believe that was mentioned by the members of 13th company in Wolf's Honour by Lee Lightner.

I'm pretty sure that this story is in the 2nd edition codex. I'll take a look when I get home.

Regards,

Valerian
