OrdosInquisition
I've been trolling the fixing Daemonhunters thread and then the recent post of the grand master special character was too much for me to resist. I thought I would try a character of my own, though, I would like some collaboration on what people think and how many points he should be. Here he is, straight from my fluff to the page. Inquisitor Lord Alexander Lem. Inquisitor Lord Alexander Lem WS BS S T W I A LD SV 4(5) 4(5) 3 3 3 4 3 10 3+ Wargear: Rosarius, Korsakov Karsky and Koslov, Cookie, Psycannon Special Rules: Iron Will, Technologist, Radical Technologist: Lem is possibly the only person outside of the Ordo Mechanicus to ever decipher and understand the secret machine language of Binary. As such, he is never allowed to be fielded as an ally to any army including a Techpriest Enginseer; this includes teaming up with such a force. If Lem and his Retinue do not shoot in the shooting phase he may attempt to repair a vehicle that has suffered the immobilised or weapon destroyed effect from the vehicle damage table. Roll a D6 and if the result is a 4 or higher, the weapon or vehicle is repaired. It may shoot in the shooting phase it is repaired. Korsakov, Karsky and Koslov: Korsakov, Koslov and Karsky are Lem’s oldest companions and they have been in his retinue since his days as a lowly Inquisitor. Karsky counts as a Sage but bestows the Inquisitor the benefit of two sages, Korsakov counts as a Chirurgeon with the benefit of two Chirurgeons and Koslov counts as a Crusader Henchman with Strength and Initiative of 4. Their profiles are identical to that of standard henchmen except they each possess an additional wound. Karsy and Korsakov are armed with Carpace Armour, a Laspistol and Close Combat weapon, Koslov is armed with a Suppression Shield, Power sword and Carapace Armour Cookie: Cookie is the Gun Drone that Lem stole from the Tau of the planet Tash’un. He hoped to use his knowledge of technology in order to devise Drones for the imperium. Unfortunately, the techno sorcery of the Tau proved to much for him without access to the Earth Castes data and while Cookie is functional and serves as Lem’s faithful Multi-Melta Servitor, whenever there is violence, the Drones suppression function activates and much to the Inquisitors chagrin it spouts a recorded Tau voice that repeats the phrase ‘For the Greater Good!’ while firing at it’s enemies. Cookies profile is exactly the same as a standard henchman except it has the ‘Relentless’ rule a Ballistic Skill of 2 and 2 wounds. The Multi-Melta is twin linked. Edited. Saxxon the Dragoon
i find some parts of it amusing like about him being able to work with machines, and a multimelta tau drone named cookie, but both of those are a little gamie, and considering all his henchmen all have 2 wounds is also a bit strong, unless your jacking up the points for them because thats a lot of mobile wounds right there. OrdosInquisition
Hmm, I could scratch all the wounds down to 1, or I could take out the option for additional retinue. Either of these could help. I think it's supposed to be a little corny. I'm sorry for forcing it on you, but I am one of those guys that makes bad puns, It's in my blood. daboarder
i think the two wound is just cause hes combined 2 stat lines into one ie 2 hencman sharing a model and base Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/168302-new-inquisition-special-character/#findComment-1985225 Share on other sites
Red Lost Soldier
What is your proposed points cost for this character? He has a lot of advantages over a standard =][= Lord. I find it odd that he is also practically a Techpriest and a psyker. They don't usually mix. Also Psycannons are not an option in Codex: WH, nor are Chirurgeons or Crusaders an option in Codex: DH. Which Codex do you wish him to be in? Kind of iffy taking equipment from separate codices on the same character. Using Xenos equipment in battle would slant him very much so towards the radical side of life too. I doubt many servants of the Emperor would continue to work with him with such open blasphemy to the normal Imperial propoganda. Not saying this is a bad thing just you should maybe restrict some of the things he can be with besides techpriests. Secondwind
I agree with red, the wargear from two codex's just makes him a very weird rules anomaly. In regards to being a psyker / tech priest concept thats fine but he will have to be focused on something, to repair things you still need tools... last I checked carrying a psycannon / force weapon would only hinder fixing vehicles. Maybe make his repair ability a psychic power as if he can use his mind to commune with the vehicles machine spirit or quickly assess the problem to repair it. For the weapons I suggest a rethink of whats hes using and why. At the moment it seems out of place with your fluff / concept. I'd say as you already have a retinue either remove the option to upgrade it further as you are essentially adding an extra 4 models by having the Karsky and company count as "2 models". Also what equipement do all of them have / use? Lasguns and flak armour or what? If you include a special retinue you cannot allow people to customise them like normal they must have fixed equipment imo. -Food for thought: Does your inquisitor fight against a particular foe or is he seeking knowledge or something else?, Why can he not ally with a techpriest no reason why they would dislike him unless he purposely hurt them? Is he a puritan or radical inquisitor (he sounds radical)? OrdosInquisition
Okay, he's a Radical, he essentially believes he needs Xenos technology to fix the failing golden throne. The reason he can't be allied with any form of the Ordo Mechanicus is because they are sort of hording knowledge as it is, and someone outside of the Machine Gods Cult with the knowledge he possesses is well, something they don't like. You're very right it is too sketchy at this point. The Idea behind him is he is an option for Radical Inquisition Armies, which is why he has elements of both, perhaps he could have an option for both. As for points cost, i'm not sure. I was hoping to get a lot of input, flesh out the concept a little, then decide on a points cost when it all seems reasonable. I'll update the above character profile. Zebub
It looks interesting... Now I'm not good with the point stuff, but for an estimate you could try simply adding the stuff together. You have a Rosarius, a Psycannon and something like two Sages, two Chirurgeons and maybe 1.5 Crusaders and 1.5 Multimelta Servitors... Plus their gear of course. I'm not sure what you can price the tech ability at. Something like 10 or 15 points seem appropriate. I'm not sure what to make of this guy. He doesn't seem to serve any purpose very well, and his versatility does not seem very effective. With all the stuff added together, he's probably going to be a tad pricy, and a pointsink since he doesn't cover any needs. As fire support he has a psycannon and a multimelta to contribute with. The psycannon is alright, but it is the only weapon in the squad with a decent range. The multimelta, even though it is twinlinked, will probably not hit very often. In close combat he is mostly goint to be a speedbump against any decent assault squad, and will not be that good against anything else. Then there is the repair ability. To use it I presume he must be in base-to-base contact as a Techmarine. That means he has to chase vehicles around to use the ability. And even then there is only a 50/50 chance he is going to succeed. Then he has the dual sage ability. That is of course awesome, but you can get that a lot cheaper than what this dude is going to cost. With the Chirurgeons and all the wounds in the squad, it seems he will have some survivavibility. But they are only T3 models and do not have very good armor saves. He has a little of everything, but I think he will be spread too thin. He seems... Well... Fun. If that is what you are aiming for, go for it, but assuming I am right, he will not be competitive. Hope this helps! - Zebub Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/168302-new-inquisition-special-character/#findComment-1986822 Share on other sites
werewolf_nr
Perhaps, instead of repairing vehicles outright, he has a psychic power (12" range) that lets the vehicle ignore a weapon destroyed or immobilized damage for one turn (ie. he points out to the crew how they can get one more shot off if...). Drop the twin-link from the Cookie but make him BS3. It is a lot less trouble for a potential opponent to try to remember the stat-line for a gun drone while dealing with Inq. Either make the retinue 1 Wound each or that is all he is allowed to take. Perhaps consider something besides a psycannon? Just thoughts Otherwise, I like the fluff behind him a lot and I think it would be awesome to model.
