DA Environment

Hey B&C I've been a long time lurker and finally joined the comunity, so i figured i'd do my introductions here. I have been playing Dark Angels for about 12 years now. One would think i would have pictures of my army in that many years but i do not. So for now i figured i'd share with you some of my 3D work. For my age i have done a lot, Worked as a pre production painter/sculpter for a toy company (Atomic Monkey), Became a 3D environment artist, and have over 3k points in fully painted Dark anges (about 2500 more on the shelf waiting for paint). I guess the most thing people would know is the Halo 3 special edition helmet. I worked on that as clean up sculptor. I remember when it was a full size helmet, to bad they had us make it smaller.

So anyways without furthur going into my life. Here is some of my 3D work in respect to the Warhammer universe and what got me started in loving art. Some of my minis paint jobs can be seen in http://www.bolterandchainsword.com/index.p...howtopic=168622

The printed images don't do these justice on the computer screen. Probably because of the darker medium produced by the subject matter. Gorgeous stuff, bro. I bet the DA mods would love to have this work adorn thier DA specific websites. My favorite shot here is the room of judgement with skylights to outer space lighting the room. Just awesome.

:)

As a fellow DA enthusiast I think these look simply amazing! The Lion would be proud of you! ^_^

I take it the Room of Judgement is inspired by the ritual potential Deathwing members and Interrogator-Chaplains take before being allowed to hear about the Fall of Caliban?

Sorry for the delayed response, i was at the LA Battle Bunker all day yesterday getting some stuff ready to be displayed in their case along with starting the Iron Painter competition.

Thank you all for the warm Welcomes and I am glad you have all enjoyed some of my work so far. As soon as i can get some batteries i'll try to get some shots of my army, or i could ask Toddius really nicely >.>

My Responcses:

First off feel free to put these as desk tops, use them as sigs/avatars, if you need a larger pic let me know i have a lot more renders then that at different sizes.

To clarafy what you are looking at, this is a Game environment so it is made to spec for gaming, this lvl is actually in Unreal 3 now so you can run around and shoot stuff in it.

@ Toddius: Yes the Printing version sucks, 3D printed is really hard to pull off right and i blew about $30 in ink just trying to get the ones you saw to look like that. What you see on a PC screen is never how it will print so it makes it tricky.

@ Muller: It could be done but would take me probably a few months or so, i'm not really a character artist, i can do it and have trained in doing it however my specialty is more so environments.

@Terrahawk: You sir get the longest response because you brought up the background.

The story i created for the room of Judgment is as follows:

It is located deep on the rock twords where Luther and the other interagating rooms are located. When a fallen is located is is brought to this room before they choose his fate. On the podium lies the Book of Salvation. the fallens name is written and given a chance to repent now and given a quick death, refuse to repent and be torchured, or any other form of punishment that needs to be judged.

The scene is not actually done, then again what art is ever truly done?

I graduated recently (about 2 months ago) and this was my final portfolio piece. They gave us 11 weeks to do it, all we needed really was 3 props and a back drop. I decided to do it in 4 weeks and do whatever i could. none the less i went a bit above and beyond but I have always liked to pressure myself.

So here are some older unfinished shots.

In this shot you can see the 3 restraints a bit better, one for eather hand and the other for the neck.

The book (yea that picture shouldn't be there but meh)

The blast doors coming into the room, i really wanted to get these done but didn't get the chance

and thats how the entrance was going to come into the room.

Someday maybe i'll go back to it.

thanks again for the welcomes everyone.

Welcome to the B&C brother!

Amazing work there you have there. Really captures the darkness of 40k and the Dark Angels fluff. The background you came up with is great too. I'd like to join the many others who've said; "I look forward to seeing more of it". I'd also like to say, damn I wish I could do that <_<!
