Death Spectres 2nd Company Champion

Recommended Posts

This is my first painted model I've ever posted on B&C and I hope you like it. I don't paint very often (very rarely really) due to I either can't find the time or I can't find the motivation. But I'm entering this into a painting competition at my local GW and so I managed to get into the right frame of mind. To show his combat shield I filed down a chaos warriors shield, chopped the Champions hand off and glued them together. It was also my first attempt half serious attempt with free hand on the shield. It may not be the best model around, but I'm proud of it ^_^

This company champion is to go with my converted Death Spectres command squad (who are also known as 'Terror blades'), if you wish to see the unpainted conversions just ask.

C&C welcome and appreciated.

This is pretty decent considering, as you say, you rarely paint. I'd suggest trying out GW's Washes, they're very easy to use and will certainly help.

Do you plan on doing these guys as albino? The reason I ask, is that I tried a test mini for Death Spectres years ago, thinking albino Space Marines would look cool but found it very difficult to get a good (convincing) finish on the skin.

I just have one problem with it, you didn`t put anything on the base.

I knew I forgot to mention something, ^_^ I'm just asking for opinions on the paint job as currently I am unable to base it because I have no sand, and the earliest I can buy some is in a week, so until then I'm just asking for peoples opinions and views on the painting and not the lack of basing :P .

EDIT:

I am planning to, since when I researched them it said they're albino. However I despise painting skin, so the only model with head bared is my count as Lysander with Fist icons removed. And I did use the washes in some areas, eg. the helmet and laurel, but it's not strikingly obvious :)

I'd have thought the albino theme would be a great way to make them stand out from the crowd. I think you'd be passing up a chance to do something cool by having them all helmeted. Having said that, albino skin's going be a bitch to paint well. It might just look like you haven't bothered painting over the undercoat. ^_^

That's why I prefer helmeted sergents, I like to have an overall consitancy and not have it suddenly drop due a model forgetting a helmet ;) . Granted it would make my marines stand out but it could go either way, they stand out for being cool and different compared to other marines or they stand out because they're painted terrible/look odd. <_<

Well painted (though I have to say I have never been a fan of that model)

Some good clean painting though I'd suggest you re-do/clean up the 'II' marking on the sheild, it looks a little slopy in comparison to the rest of the model.

And the colour of the skull looks a little off considering the rest of the model, perhaps white, or gold would suit it better?

Maybe its just me

Nice work though, always liked the death spectres.

@ Brother-chaplain Astador: Thanks, I'm keeping the helmet bone because that's the main part of the paint scheme, because otherwise it'll look odd to me. I'll try and tidy up the 'II' when I have chance ;) .

@ Dorns padawan: The shield is a filed down fantasy warriors of chaos shield, I chopped off the champions hand and replaced it with the shield.

@ Paladin7221: Since you asked <_< .

  • 2 weeks later...

Nice work Silent Shadow!!!

I like the idea of lance-type weapons with Marines, and the use of the Demon sword on that last model, nice.

I'm not asking this to critique, but I was wondering if you know how the DS chapter represents company markings, and if you're going to (yes, I saw the II on the champ.)

Thinking about painting up some of these gents myself!
