Feral Fallen Angels (picture heavy)

Recommended Posts

As the description states, I'm mixing the bodies of WoC with various SM bits to make more feral marines. These ones will be Fallen Dark Angels, I will start with 5 and work my way up to 10. I know they are wearing boots and blah blah blah, I'm trying to make these look cool and in no way practical. They will be used as either LatD for SM or some sort of CSM chosen.

I picked up this style from a friend over on another forum who did this for his CSM havoc squad. He's rather cool and he liked the first painted up model.

It's not entirely done, but it gives a good idea of the end result.

Well here is the squad with next to no GS work, just tac'ed on bits.

I'm surprised the tubing almost connects. Less work for later on.

Now if you look hard at the squad picture you might notice someone hiding in the back. Who better to lead the Fallen than...

Questions and comments are always cool. If anyone has a better greenstuff guide to fur than the GS site, just PM me a link. I haven't done fur since the first model, and that was over a year ago.

Very nice so far, the guy with the multi melta looks really good. any chance you could post a pic of the back of that guy? is the backpack/cloak done the same as the big cypher guy? as for sculpting fur, there used to be a good article on the GW site. just keep the strokes short and erratic for realistic fur.

GS fur is simple.

apply gs to the surface you want fur to be covering...bulk it out as much as you want

then using short, sharpe, and slightly random/erratic strokes

slice the the GS with a craft knife...

making sure to go in the same direction *ie downwards motion*

you should get a nice fur effect...

Nice use of WOC bits. Are these guys pre or post heresy?

Thanks. I guess you can call the Fallen pre-heresy. They pop out during the current times though. If you look more closely-er at the first pic of an unpainted model (the one with the chainsword and a rogue trader style bolter) you should see there is a squigly gray patch on the circle breast badge. When I get done painting it should look like Caliban burning.

Darkwrath: Thank you. They all have the fur lined cape that the Warriors of Chaos have. Here's a pic of the painted guy's cape. Please keep your head about 3 feet from the monitor when you look at it, it looks crappy when enlarged.

Brother Caedrius: Hooray on having pre-heresy Dark Angels (now if only there we could use pre-codex dark angels). Shame they have to share the field of battle with those mutts of russ.

  • 1 year later...

CLEAR! *bzzzzt* *beep beep* Doctor, we have a pulse.

Over a year later, and I finished the modeling work on them. They are now primed and only waiting on me to buy new paint. Did you know that it is quite hard to paint pre-heresy dark angels when your chaos black and skull white are completely dry?

Here they are, in their current poses. Apparently I forgot to take pictures of them with the fur and capes fully sculpted, and individual shots. For now they are all primed white.

Since I lacked the 2 most import colors in my painting, I decided on trying a new method to keep me occupied. I inked the armor and washed the fur/leather so that I can paint over it, using the ink as a guideline to show me how the shading should look after I use real paint.

I added some battle damage to the champion, so when I get the necessary colors he should be quite impressive.

Sadly I think I will be painting the multi-melta last. I really liked how the gun finally fit, and how I got the cabling through his cloak.

I guess I didn't leave much open for questioning. Does anyone have questions? Any tips on how I should paint the melta? Should I make more of these guys, or just stay content with this small squad which could stand in for Legion of the Damned? Where do babies come from? If I make another 5, what would you like to see?

All of that, or criticism would be great.

Pretty damned cool (ugh, that was not meant to be a pun).

I'd like to see a full warband of some kind eventually - it'd be interesting to see what that'd be like.

The whole 'anti-monk' or fallen paladin thing evoked by the WoC pieces is really effective and fits well with the character of fallen DAs.

I finally bought some new paint today. As it turns out, owning paint makes painting much easier. Who'da known?

Please ignore the white areas for now, and the green. They are colored to better show the black armor and show what the inner shoulder pads would be colored. The gun casing will be red in the end, and I will be painting the helmet a bone color.

I really liked how the pack came out. Probably because it didn't have huge rounded surfaces to highlight like the arms and armor plates on the body.

A full warband might take some time to finish. The initial construction is a pain since I need to take a grinder to WoC parts and remove the shoulder section, then GS in bits where the cape were cut out. I would like to make the Army leader in terminator armor. I believe I would take heavy inspiration from a member on these forums known as Wolf Lord Mjolnir, who made an amazing set of terminators. Just click his name and you'll see the army shot. Just scroll down. Shame the army is of mutt descent.

I didn't realize my stuff was so unpopular. Oh well, triple posts are the new pink.

I finished the main armor of everyone. Now all that remains is bolter casings, fur trim, flesh, metallics, green shoulder pads, some buring planet thingamajoo, and the capes. I believe I'm making good progress.
