Fire Hammers - 3000pts in 6 months..eeek!

Recommended Posts

After a long sabbatical, I've finally got round to posting the new scheme for my Fire Hammers army, i apologise if the scheme is the same as anyone elses, i just liked the idea and went with it! didn't really look to see if it had already been done.

pics are quite dark as had to take the pics before the battery ran out

he's not quite done yet (hence being in the Wips)

Thats a very nice colour scheme, and the weathering, to me, looks like the guy's been fighting for a good long time without looking like he just fell face-first into a puddle. The white is really well executed too.

If I were you though, I'd try to get a little bit more lightness on that lamp of his, it just looks...well yellow rather than a light

Hehe, just takes a bit of practice, all i do is do the scratches in black then highlight one side in the same colour you used to highlight the piece you're intending to "scratch" make sure the highlight is on the same side for every scratch though otherwise you'll lose the effect.

@verpine - yeah, i would have liked to have done a gs tabard, but was loath to take it off an start again. tried to make it look frayed an tattered. guess i didn't succeed

@decadent - lamp is something left to finish, along with the boltgun (did a few scratches on it but may do it a different colour) and something funky for the base of course!

Anybody got any ideas for the boltgun colour? thought about doing the casing grey like the chest eagle/skull. at least then it's a colour thats already on the model.

@terminatorinhell - i'll have a go and see how it comes out  i'll post the result later tomorrow night, should be able to get the rest of him bar the base done too.

you did a good job with this bud, it looks even better in person, I was thinking, why not go for a yellow bolter casing? tie it in with the chainsword slightly? could work well.

keep it up and I'll hold you to the completed army like it :D

Like the colour scheme, and that weathering is really well done - think I need to try and have a shot of that at some point, i've always wanted to try weathering, but never found an easy and effective way of doing it. Maybe its just the way i'm looking at it, but is the half colour red or orange?

Thanks for all the positive comments! i've made a small wager with a friend (namely one Blindhamster) that i can paint all 3000 pts of my army to the same standard, so it's nice to know that the standard is ok.

i'll have a play with the colours for the bolter casing later tonight and see what happens!

@Ekkanus - the colour is actually quite a vibrant red but the camera doesn't pick it up that well.

Awesome mini, The weatering and the white looks really great. Can't wait to see more.

But a 3000 pts wager :) with this standard?...I'm likely to go along with your friend. Unless you're allowed a ten year time span. :)

we can assume around 6-8 hours per mini (rank and file) with more for tanks and characters... most likely around 100 marines in that point slot plus vehicles/termies etc so Im guessing if he starts now and gives up his day job it'll take up half a year :D

@blindhamster - i'm not going to put a time limit on it, but i will keep updating the progress on this thread throughout the challenge!

i now have the bolter done yellow, however i don't have any batteries for the damn camera, so pics will be tomorrow. :s

@blindhamster - actually, what say we double the wager and i have a time limit of 6 months starting from now, to paint all 3000 pts to the same standard as the guy above? thats a 100+ marines 7 tanks, 1 drop pod, MotF on bike, 6 or so bikes, a landspeeder, attack bike, 2 dreadnoughts and few other bits and bobs.

That's a really good colour scheme & a high quality paintjob. I think the tabard looks suitably tattered. And youse gonna paint 3000pts of them marines with that standard in 6 months; clinically insane, definitely admirable. Just makes me wonder what kind of wager would be worth taking on this challenge... :wallbash:

I think clinically insane is probably correct! it suddenly hit me what i'd let myself in for last night. oh well, time to get cracking!

first up is the base for the dev squad sarge, nothing special, just seems a shame to spend all this time on the models and not do the bases

next is the the dev sarge with the yellow bolter, no shading or highlighting yet as i wanted to see what you guys thought?

(the observant amongst you will notice that there is what can only be described as a "splodge" of yellow paint on his tabard. fear not i do intend to correct this error :)

next is a scout squad i've started on, these were originally painted quickly to have some painted stuff on the battle field, but now they need to be re-done in the new scheme, i'm thinking grey urban camo?

I don't think the green sniper rifle goes with the red/white scheme of the fire hammers... or were you planning to change that?

yup, re-painting them right now, starting with shadow grey as a base, doing that on the cloaks and guns, not sure what to do about the brown trousers, might do them a darker grey or just tidy up the current colour.

a quick update on the scouts, sorry about the pics, i need to get another decent light to start taking better photos.

the scouts are nearly done, just a few more odds 'n'ends need doing before the fun bit starts....the weathering!
