Hammer of the Witches vs Nids

My friend who has just started up a Bug army was looking over my WH codex cracked the hump over the "Hammer of the Witches" Inquisitorial psychic power. Being that it could mess with his attacking synapse creatures and cause his minions to go feral.

Has anyone used this power against the Bugs? If so, how'd it break down?? And for you grizzled veterans, is it worth taking as a power vs. psy heavy lists???

It could be worth trying out, but forcing the nids to take a load of leadership tests is a bit of a joke as their psychic units are all Ld 10. It's unlikely to do much other than perhaps irritate your opponent. If he wants to squeal about something in the WH codex, he should probably worry more about flamers and Exorcists!

If he takes a load of psykers, why not load up your VSSs with combi-stakes? They're extremely effective against psykers and pretty cheap too.

Last but not least, welcome to the B&C :D

This is something that I've considered for a while now as a different tack to my normal synapse bug hunting loadout of combistakers.

The only potential issue with this is the 'shadow in the warp' rule which, if my memory serves me correct, means that the casting inquisitor has got a greater chance of failing his perils of the warp test. That said forcing your nid opponent to do 'perils of the warp' himself on D6(!?!) synapse creatures every turn is a nice trick and I'd have to say that as probability goes if you can go for 6 turns casting this it would present a very real problem to your opponent and may even knock them off their stride.

Also, if you are going to take =I=-lord, then you need to take retinue, and in that case there realy isn't any reason not to take HB servitors.

Just remember to use those powers every time. I had a Apoc. match where i always forgot to use those powers for 4 turns.

i routinely play against nids and i've considered it a few times, but like WarriorFish says, all their synapse creatures have Ld 10. the only way i've found this to be a half way decent tactic is to take a 2nd psychic power, in this case 'purgatus'. overall it's too pricey and slow to be effective, at best you'll have 2 synapse creatures down to Ld7 and hoping you can drop the hammer on the synapse at the start of turn 3... and anyone who's played against a worthy nid player knows you're in CC by turn 2.

In 4th ed, I used to regularly run a allied naked WH Inquisitor with HotW for 2 reasons:

1. Unlock an assasin

2. Annoy the enemy

Everyone is right about the effectiveness, but just like shrouding: don't count on it, but it does work occasionally.

More specifically - it can be a psychological weapon...just look at what it did to your mate - and he hasn't even played against it.

Next time you play him, I would march right in with a HotW =][=

If you really want to freak him out, tell him you are also bringing a Culexis ;)
