Warhorse47
Okay, I'm going to be going up against some IG and ork players soon. New guy, should I use Whirlwinds or Typhoons? 1500 to 2000 point games Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/168852-opinions-please-best-horde-medicine/ Share on other sites
WG Vrox
Go into the Army section and post your list, have to see the whole list to give you the best advise. But if I had to pick one or the other I would use a Whirlwind and try to get line of sight as much as possible. Grey Mage
I agree with vrox.... please post a list. As for the one or the other choice here... I always go with the whirlwinds, and its yet to do me wrong vs gaurd, orks, nidz, or eldar. Warhorse47
OK, this is what I ran last Saturday. WGBL Master crafted LC, artificier armor, 3 Fenrisian Wolves, 4 WG bodyguards, Leman Russ Exterminator, LC equipped Razorback, 2x 8 man GH squads, 1x 8 man BC squad, LF squad 3 lasers, one ML, Rune Priest. Scattering of power weapons, pelts, tooth necklaces to round out the 1500 points. lunchb0x
Take two assault cannons and call the Wolf Priest in the morning. :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/168852-opinions-please-best-horde-medicine/#findComment-1992864 Share on other sites
fjgarces
Last weekend I've tried to go with 5 wolf scouts: 4 sniper rifles, 1 msl. launcher, and camo cloak for all. They deployed in cover close to an objective, 3+ cover save thanks to the +1 of the cloak. They did a very good job, better than the vanilla ones (BS4 is better than BS3). They destroyed a buggy, a trukk and killed 9 orks in the explosion. They killed 5 orks more shooting and they were fighting HtH with 12 orks for 3 turns. Better than Long Fangs and cheaper, I think that they were a good choose against hordes, better than OBEL scouts, but maybe against IG, OBEL scouts could be a good choose too. Best regards. WG Vrox
I would switch out the LC RB with the standard HB. Not sure if you have transportation for your troops, but I would suggest at least a rhino for you BC so you can put your RP in there with them and cast Strom Caller on it. Drop the wolves, as your retinue should be enough to keep him alive. Other than that looks pretty solid. If you need points to get the Whirly, drop the Lem Russ down to a Pred Dakka, that with the points you saved above you should be able to have enough points for it. Like LunchBox said, not sure how you have your WG outfitted but a couple of AC in the pack would give you some nice dakka. Yo Fjgarces, Scouts can't have them fancy cloaks, thats SM wargear and we only get to take weapon options. Sad but true. Javi Good setup, though I think having them come in from behind would have been a bit more useful. The rear armour is presented to you, and playing orks, 10-1 there really isnt anything that will be coming at you. Where as deploying out you have lots of things that can charge you. I love to bring the squad in from behind enemy lines, the look on peoples faces. ;) 1 4 man squad armed with plasma gun, plasma pistol, melta bombs and two power weapons...took out a squad of tau fire warriors, and a railgun tank ( whatever its called ). My opponent did not like the fact that less then 150 pnts took out everything guarding the objective. :D Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/168852-opinions-please-best-horde-medicine/#findComment-1994077 Share on other sites

wiplash
scouts are very hit and miss i find ive taken the sniper and missile combination beforesometimes they do damage sometimes they miss everytime i tend not to take them for sniping i use them of obel with melta bombs and killy stuff :( as for horde killing: for the IG if you tie them down in combat then they cant shoot so you own but for orks you need to avoid combat (unless you think you will cause more damage assauting) the orks will strike first with more attacks (i think they strike first) and bigger squad sizes what about a drop pod? either one for troops or a shooty one (name?) dreads tend to be sniped down quickly i find, mine never usually gets into combat landspeeders are good for contesting objectives and laying down some good firepower then again using sniper scouts can work if you pin them then they cant do much i would swap out the leman russ for a predator exterminator (much cheaper) and maybe a whirlwind Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/168852-opinions-please-best-horde-medicine/#findComment-1994200 Share on other sites

lunchb0x
If you arent taking like 3 full packs of BC's and your GH's , Im just not going to talk to you :P :P I only run 1 pack of BCs, with a Rune Priest...at one of the stores I play...EVERYONE avoids them like the plague...SERIOUSLY!!! its awesome. :P OMG YOUR 9 MAN BLOOD CLAWS STRIKE FIRST!!!! NOOOOOOoooooooooooo!!!! :: runs away :: Banshes dont like it when they strike AFTER your Blood Claws, they get all b*tchy and die. ;) but for horde....Assault Cannons and Cyclone Missile Launchers, and Auto cannons on Dreads. Its awesome. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/168852-opinions-please-best-horde-medicine/#findComment-1994610 Share on other sites
Ullr Direfang
Well I would say as far as IG go, it really depends on what the person is running. If i completely miss anything you said to that, I am sorry. But I have seen that a good all round list still works well on the new IG. Some list (tank heavy/mecha vets/ Valkyrie storm troop) are a little harder to deal with, but the get in H2H as fast as you can and they don't hold up well.
