ThundaHawk
I've personally never been a huge fan of GW's 'new' 2nd company scheme with the gold trim/black weapons, so without further adieu... My original 'test minis' from a good 2-3 years back http://onfinite.com/libraries/1488476/683.jpg and now... A slightly revised take, with deeper (and much darker in the pictures, anyway... :cussty camera) tones of blue and red to go along with a 'flatter' yellow http://onfinite.com/libraries/1488477/926.jpg One more angle... http://onfinite.com/libraries/1488478/683.jpg And finally, a blurry pic of some WIP scouts for the lulz (test mini on the right there) http://onfinite.com/libraries/1488480/683.jpg Comment away  (I'll try to update this thread as I get more things done, still have a SICK command squad, Sternguard, and another Tac squad primed and ready) Cheers. Stargazer
Yeah I really like them and you've really got that old school look down which is rare to see nowadays but I'm glad you've pulled it off and done it justice! Look forward to seeing more! Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/168853-a-return-to-painting/#findComment-1992348 Share on other sites
litlamzetiv
They look great--I'm a big fan of the yellow trim and red bolters myself. By the way, what did you use for the sniper rifle on Telion? It looks huge! Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/168853-a-return-to-painting/#findComment-1992363 Share on other sites

It looks huge! It's an Imperial Guard lasgun from the Inquisitor range from way back, converted the barrel/scope/stock. Going to field the model as a standard scout sarge with a huge Barrett .50 cal, heh Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/168853-a-return-to-painting/#findComment-1992365 Share on other sites
Crimson Fury
Hey there, first of all I have to say that is some sweet paint jobs there thundahawk, crisp and clean. Awesome paint scheme as well, it's the one I would use if I didn't have 10,000 points worth of salamanders to paint. Thantoes
As a staunch Ultra fan and player I have to say I love these. I really like the what looks like a modded stormbolter on your sergeant. Exhumed
Much better than the new scheme I think. Down with GWs modern fluff/colour scheme revisions! Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/168853-a-return-to-painting/#findComment-1993057 Share on other sites

Qu1f
Looking good mate. How did you achieve the classic yellow? I have always had a problem doing it. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/168853-a-return-to-painting/#findComment-1993563 Share on other sites
ThundaHawk
Thanks for the compliments, everyone. The Sarge does, in fact, have a stormbolter is converted off a filed-down vehicle sprue... really happy with how that turned out, pics don't do the bugger much justice heh. The yellow was built up in thin layers over a scorched brown base, (snakebite/golden yellow mix to pure golden yellow with a little white for highlight). The "gryphone sepia" wash GW makes is VERY good for toning down yellow, I've found. GumbaFish
I really like these, they have that oldschool flavor but I like your slightly more subdued take on the classic ultramarine scheme.
