Are Wolf Guard Bodyguards the only models who can take Assault Cannons?

I know in the past there have been questionable arguments for and against Wolf Guard Battle-leaders

being allowed to take them. However this time I wish to explore Wolf Guard Champions.

I have been out of touch for a few years now and I made an army list for a campaign that is being run

at the local club. I made my list, found all my guys, arranged the weapon schemes I required and painted

them in unit colouring sat back and thought... "Wait.. can WGC have Assault Cannons?"

So now prostrate myself onto the mercy of the forum to decide whether or not I can carry through with

the action of using Assault Cannons on WGC or whether I have to drop them for stormbolters.

The FAQ clarifies the entry of the Wolf Gaurd Battle Leader wich states he can "take anything from the wolf gaurd entry" wich some people have interpreted over the years as cheaper wargear.... wich has nothing to do with their unit entry wich DOES allow them to take assault cannon amongst other things. Note: All heavy weapons count as a two handed weapon, and the updated version of the codex allows you to take a second weapon with them while in TDA.

EDIT: Never give them Stormbolters if you have the points for anything else, you cant true grit a stormbolter.

Thank you for the update RE Wolf Guard Battle-Leader, but I am still curious to know whether Wolf Guard Champions

can take assault cannons or not.

True, but my version of the codex (as I understand there are two versions?) does not state that I can benefit from the true grit rule when using combi-weapons either so if I can't take Assault Cannons I will drop the terminator armour I suppose.

A shame after all that time and effort but oh well...

No, the entry for heavy weapons in the wolf gaurd entry is for bodygaurds.... as much as Id like to throw a heavy weapon into my squads some days it just doesnt work. That being said I find that having a TDA WG in a squad is a major boon, especially with a CCW of some sort and a stormshield with runic charm- mean I have a guy whos very likely to save against anything thats sent at the squad. Runs about 60pts, but usually is worth it.

God, in 4th ed AC's were a Landraider's bain.

I played my BT friend in an apoc battle, he brought 4 landraiders to the table. None of the lascannons or missile launchers did jack to the raiders. A vortex grenade took out one (with helbrecht, woo!) and one round of shooting from various assault cannons popped the others in quick succession....a normally mellow guy was quite irked at that.

erm, the instance I was talking about was during my first game of 5th.

Two land raider lists rolled up on each other, both SW too. His Crusader managed to shred through my Redeemer. So annoying. I still eeked out a victory over him by a single KP, by ramming his Rhino with one of my basic raiders.

So much fun.
