TheReclusiarch
If I choose to Go to Ground with my unit of six Space Marines, and then lose two models, can I choose to fall back (thus breaking the pinning, I assume?) by using the Combat tactics rule? Thanks! Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/168894-combat-tactics-breaking-go-to-ground/ Share on other sites
Steelmage99
It would seem so. The only issue I can see is somebody pointing out that choosing to use Combat Tactics might be considered a voluntary action. A thing expressly forbidden by Going to Ground. yergerjo
Although Calgar's "God of War" ability will allow them to choose and fall back. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/168894-combat-tactics-breaking-go-to-ground/#findComment-1993092 Share on other sites
Maligoare
"Whilst it has gone to ground the unit may do nothing of its own volition." - BRB, P24. So no, no Combat Tactics (or God of War, for that matter). GTang
"..., but will react normally if affected by enemy actions (for example, it will take Morale tests as normal)." - BRB, pg. 24. Looks fine to me, too. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/168894-combat-tactics-breaking-go-to-ground/#findComment-1993415 Share on other sites
Maligoare
It's perfectly allowable to break the hold of going to ground by way of falling back, it's just that you can't choose to use Combat Tactics to do it! Basically, Combat Tactics is something you actively choose to use, which the rules for going to ground prohibit. Looks fine to me, too. (playing devils advocate here) But choosing to use Combat Tactics to automatically fail, is not "taking Morale tests as normal". "Taking Morale tests as normal" is rolling 2 dice and comparing the total to your leadership score. BOBMAKENZIE
But Combat Tactics says they may Choose to Fail any morale test they are called upon to take. And Codex Over rules rulebook doesn't it? It would seem to me as a RAI point of view. That the Fluidic nature of Marine warfare would allow them to break from fox holes to regroup in a new more advantageous position makes sense to me. GTang
It says it will "react normally" when an enemy unit forces it to take a morale test. While taking a morale test, that's an ability it's normally able to use. So, it can. nighthawks
I say the leadership check for pinning is taken normally. the morale check must be taken IF needed - 25% casualties or whatever. combat tactics / GoW / whatever can be used then, pinned or not. if you get pinned with <25% casualties, then sorry - you're staying.
