Starting Space Wolves?

Recommended Posts

Because, I for one think we have a wonderful codex and that our models are just fine at the moment. If hes only investing in basic troops squads and tanks then hes not likely to see any change at all. If it was only a month or two out Id say wait... but six months? Thats alot of games, alot of tournaments, that could be alot of fun.

Im not a painter... my best painting is what alot of guys on this board call their normal paint jobs... and thats with time, effort, and a bit of muse. I enjoy playing the game and I enjoy the fluff- the paint is just there as a little addition in my eyes.

So to me, it sound silly to ask someone to miss out on several months of gaming for the sake of the price of a single tactical box- wich frankly if you make a good thousand points force and want some of the new bits, and update it all a bit... your likely only out that much to update. If you happen to like some of the current line *like the 13nth co rune priest as an example* you might want to get them now. Not to mention most will want to expand their armies anyways... so whats the problem with getting a head start?

Grey Mage and I simply have a difference of opinion on whether prospective new players should start right now or wait. Elric, the OP, will have to look at both options and choose. I just want to make sure folks know what is in store for us coming this fall so that they can avoid any potential "buyer's regret" for starting a new army (which can be a pretty major endeavor in time, effort, and money), just a few months before the army goes through a major revision.

Best regards,

Valerian

I can't see the models for Grey hunters and blood claws changing that much - they're still going to be space marines with an upgrade sprue, its just that sprue might have different bits on it. It's hardly going to invalidate the current models.

Be conservative with unit upgrades and it should be fine.

I agree with ya GM and the rest, a couple troop choices and vehicles are a safe purchase.

The only changes I foresee in our troop choices maybe the load out option we are allowed. Such as how many power weapons and of what type will we be allowed to take, but if we loose them, they are changes that can be made to a model without much effort. Even if let's say we only allowed only the one power weapon in a pack and you have two models built, just buy another pack and you have your power weapon option for that new pack. Any vehicle should be a safe purchase, sure we may get new options, but the old ones will still be there.

Plus if a new wolf comes into the game now, they won't be categorized and a bandwagon eh!

Of course... your suggestion is perfectly valid and makes a good point. I just wish to put for th the other side of the argument so our new posters can make a more informed decission- you keep saying what your saying, Ill keep saying what Im saying, and no hard feelings eh?

No problem whatsoever, and certainly no hard feelings. I really don't have anything else to add, so this is most likely it for this thread for me. It seems that I am in the minority anyway, with my recommending constraint.

How dare you Petersson. How dare you tempt me to buy 7 drop pods. I will not forget this. You have been warned.

I dare because I care... :-)

I only have three at the moment but as soon as the festival season is over, I'm getting another 4.

And that, to stay on topic, would be another suggestion to the OP.

If you are in any way concerned about your models not being viable after the new codex, get some drop pods instead...

Magnets are your friends ;)

I've magnetized all of my wolf guard terminators just in case.

Safe bets I'd say, Wolf priest, box of blood claws, box of grey hunters and go easy on the plasma pistols. If nothing else it will give you some old school upgrades to mix in with any new ones we may get, giving you a much more individual look for each wolf.
