I've been given a Challenge

As some of you already know I'm currently revisiting my SW replacing my RT/2nd ed Wolves with a brand new SW army. I posted a list in the army list forum and OnlyInDeath suggested I make a post here to see what kind of mayhem y'all could make of it.

My group gave two challenges to me when I started my SW Revamp.

1 Make Wolves work without Wolf Scouts.

2 No sniper Dreads.

I took the challenge and for now will refrain from using WS and TLLC Dreads.

Here is OID's suggestion.

Oooo, that's an interesting turn of events....I would use sniper RB's instead ;) hehe TLLC on a razorback is always a good way to make your opponenet a lil scared ;)

So what would you take in your list as replacements? Nothing too over the top though these guys are my friends and I'd like to keep it that way! :D

I recently fought a SW player who took an Ironclad Dred with 2 close combat arms, gave him 2 Hunter Killer Missiles and a Storm Bolter and Meltagun. If you guys can do that, I don't see why it's not in almost every list. Thing was pretty devastating against my troops. Probably would have put a serious hurt on vehicles if I had brought any.

well then you need another HQ

how about a wolf priest? i love these dudes, they are relatively cheap, almost as good as a wolf lord and they can get healing potions and balms!

recently i had a weird idea involving a wolf priest on bike leading an attack bike squad

these boys would have as much attacks on the charge as a bloodclaws biker unit, but with a better WS as well as BS and here it comes, these boys would shoot your opponent to schrapnel before charging in

Currently my plan is to use a Ven Dread with an AC as a replacement. So at 1850 these are the HQ's I'm planning to use.

VenDread w/ Assault cannon, Heavy Flamer, Extra armor

Rune Priest- Frost Blade, Storm Shield, Runic charm, Frag grenades, Melta bombs

Wolf Lord- Frost Blade, Storm Shield, Runic charm, Frag grenades, Melta bombs

Basically what would you add to a list as viable replacements for the two units. OID suggested taking TLLC RB's as snipers as a replacement for the Dread.

Heck you could even just tell me what kind of list you'd build avoiding those two units. Anything goes really as long as you stick to the challenge.

I'll work on a list tonight and see what I can come up with.

http://www.bolterandchainsword.com/index.p...mp;hl=adepticon Is a list that I came up with earlier this year, and I am still working on getting the models put together for it, as, IMO, it would be a rather scary tourney list.

That being said, you prolly wont want to bust this out against friends, so I'll come up with something a little less beardy :P

these boys would have as much attacks on the charge as a bloodclaws biker unit, but with a better WS as well as BS

Ummmm, nope, they're stilll Blood claws with WS/BS 3...

But yes, that is apretty good unit and although expensive, has worked wonders for me...

aren't the attack bikers WS 4, BS 4?=/

Keep the Vendread with assault cannon.

Take two attack bikes with multimelta for the antitank at range.

And Ironclad makes a good OBEL equivilant when placed in a drop pod, though at twice the price its arguably better in some situations.

But frankly my normal list has none of your obstructed units. Ill put something up later.

Hendriks right they're gray hunters on the attackbikes so WS/BS 4

Before one can make good suggestions, you have to tell us what role those units usually play in your army. I will assume that the TLLC Dreadnought was there simply to fill a Tank Destroyer role, but do you normally use him for any other tasks? What do you usually do with your Wolf Scouts, and how do you equip them? Once that point is clarified then perhaps we can offer suggestions for suitable replacements that can fill the gaps created in your army with the loss of these two units.

The TLLC dread was my long range AT and the wolf scouts were usually OBL meltagun/melta bomb tank hunters normally with an attached WG with a fist.

Agreed, fangs rock. I'm currently woeking on and army with 3 units of 4 missile launchers just for the sake of doing it :Elite: Think here is that I'm assuming your friends run vehicles often hence those units in your army. And I assume you beat them often hence the challenge. So your challenge is to try and make a list that your friends dnt have to worry about their tanks being destroyed... I suggest 2 preds with tllc and bolter sponsons and a unit of fangs with 2 LC and 2 HB. THen add 2 units of 6 GH in bolter razorbacks with just bolters and a melta each. then add the rest how you like. -_-

If they are heavy tanks, a couple fun lil units to bust out, and they are from an unexpected angle:

BC Bikers, w/a pair of fists and a flamer in a 5 man pack, led by a WP with HP&B

Swap out the old AC pods of doom termie retinues for a retinue bedecked in CML (that's 6-8 krak missiles per turn from one unit (!))

Long Fangs (Eww!)

There is nothing wrong with Fangs if you know how to use them properly. :)

I think we've been over this before... in another thread... another time...

I'd identify that my posting of Long Fangs (Eww!) is solely my opinion, but it's inferred in that I was the author of said line and didn't deign to prove evidence regarding my view of them. Ergo, solely intended as an inference to my personal taste of units, not a quantitative assessment of their capacity in hunting tanks (in which they can certainly be effective, if you can figure out how to keep them alive long enough to draw a bead on enemy vehicles.)

Attack bikes with MM's are a decent choice as a replacement for the scouts due to the shear speed in which they can move or redeploy.

I was just kidding around! :D I know they aren't very popular.

I've had great luck putting nearly all my eggs in one basket with a Land Raider Redeemer loaded with a Wolf Lord in TDA and a Retinue. The Retinue has 2 Assault Cannons/PF and two Th/SS. Extremely effective (and expensive unit)

You may really like it to complement the mech force you've put together. (plus they'd kick ass once you put them together. I'd love to see SW's in termie armor modelled and painted by you)

The Redeemer is a fun tank.

I'd also nix the WW in favor of a pred with Autocannon and Heavy bolters. Same price, but much more punch and survivability.
