Stormbirds

In Specialist Games 2009 on page 19 there is "Space Marine Landing Craft" which looks alot like Thunderhawk but larger. Can it be stormbird?

I doubt it. The only Stormbirds still in use are ones that remained intact through the Horus-Heresy and those are in the Traitor Legions' forces. All Imperial forces and Space Marine Chapters exclusively use Thunderhawk Gunships now.

Edit: This?

If it's the epic model you're talking about it's just a big thunderhawk for carrying tanks, the only thing similar to the description of a stormbird is the fact that it's a bit bigger than a thunderhawk (otherwise it looks exactly the same as a thunderhawk with the middle missing).

the landing craft isn't a stormbird :)

the tempestus fugitives have a nice datasheet for the stormbird in their pre-heresy rules packs.

Tempus Fugitives

The Stormbird was the transport of choice during the great crusade, before the thunderhawk came about. Holds a higher number of troops, but is less heavily armed and armoured.

We've got rules over in both our Emperor and Warmaster packs, for the forthcoming Horus Heresy event that we're running later this year.

Indeed we have the Stormbird I believe is based on the epic landing craft seen in the 2nd ed. Epic rule book (1993 I think), which we have a pic of on our data sheet or here in my gallery. Its the closed thing GW have officially printed which resembles the description in the HH books (apart from the large turbofan engines that is :P).

True but the pic gives enough info to actually start work on a good model of your own. I would imagine this as a much earlier model. The Large engins being a weakness needing to be fixed in later versions of the craft. Adding large wings would improve unpowered flight charicteristics in the event of an emergency landing.

The picture is awesome! I would say though, it doesn't really have the feel of SM's as of late. It looks like something you could pick up in walmart and spray paint. And the Aliens observation is dead on. Its on par with the classic deoderant land-speeder-thingy in akward looks.

Not sure if it was in the Epic rulebook or not, but that pic was definitely used in one of the two Space Crusade rulebooks (the mission one, I think?)

a guy from Work in Progress has made a conversion of it out of a G.I joe vehicle (i think)

Just follow the link straight to it. it's also got some rogue trader art of it too.

Welcome to 3 posts above you.

Same guy, different forums, so perhaps he was not aware of the B&C work in progress thread; why did you have to be an ass about it?

Just finished HR and starting in on FG. They mention Stormbirds as a larger version of a Thunderhawk. Anyone have more info on these? Armament, capacity, design, etc... Could be a fun conversion from the FW Thunderhawk.

Its funny that you mention this because I was just thinking the same thing.

Loyalists all switched to the Thunderhawk, but there had to have been some advantages to the Stormbird.

Maybe it was actually better, as older technologies often are in 40k.

More effective way to teach people to read before posting.

More effective way of getting people not to come back or simply ignore you. Perhaps he read the post but didn't follow the link to see that it had the same pictures as the link he was providing, also the post on the other forum could of given different insight since there would be different people posting there.

That black and white SM pic with the turbofans is Rogue Trader era. I seem to remember it being the centre spread in the 1st edition of the Deathwing Novel. Given the age of the original drawing it is likely that it was copied from the dropship from the Aliens film - back in the day GW were even more blatant with copyright infringments.
