loyal death guard in the 41st millenium

Recommended Posts

hi there im planning to build myslef a death guard army. my storyline is that before the heresy around 1000 or so marines with MIA in the warp on a crusade. then in the 38th millenium they re-appear. the storyling goes that to them it was only like 3 days as the warp is heaps weird. the get screened for heresy and all other stuff and are cleared. they learn of the heresy and their past legions. the adopt the codex astartes and start up a chapter they keep their own colours name etc. and crusade to destroy chaos in all forms and basically destroy their former legion.

Lost in the warp is used much more commonly than you would think in DIY Chapters, it's become something of a cliche over in the Liber Astartes forum.

Aside from that, as Sons of Horus said, you will be shot for being Death Guard by the Imperium. Failing that you will be shot by the Imperium for being Alpha Legion. You wear the colours of the enemy, you're an enemy. No questions asked, no quarter given.

heres a bit of lfuff its only a rough copy atm because im not very good at writing

Death guard

It was the 30th millennium and the mighty chapters of the Adeptus Astarte’s had been created. The death guard were among the 20 legions to of been made, there Primarch Mortarion had just been instructed as commander of the death guard legion. Mortarion ordered Commander Tyler of the 2nd detachment of the 3rd great company. Their mission was to set up a command outpost to combat the ever threatening menace, the Orks. Tyler and his 1000 marines entered their light class battle barge. Tyler had a keen eye for flying and planned an alternate route through a warp storm which would take half the fuel and time, however as they entered the warp storm something strange happened the engines completely failed and Tyler sent his most faithful techpriests to repair or get the engines working again. They recorded being caught in the storm for at least 8 days before they started their journey again. Upon leaving the warp storm something went awol the logbooks went crazy sending the date of the 30th millennium to the 41st millennium, the ship started to shake and a loud noise started to happen piercing the ears of every marine, louder and louder the noise became deafening the marines then a bright light appeared in the ship and then a thunderous explosion knocked everyone into unconsciousness.

5 days later the battle barge of the ultramarines stumbled upon this intruder ship in the Ultramar realm, Tyler’s ship had somehow stumbled into the Ultramar realm. Captain Adamant led the 2nd company to investigate this mysterious ship, they took numerous scans for life forms and biological hazards and took many photo captions of the ship and the strange yet familiar symbols to the chapter master on Ultramar, Marnues instantly knew what this was the death guard, he was about to order the destruction of the ship but then thought long and hard for 3 days he researched ancient texts long thought to have disappeared, he asked himself if they were the death guard wouldn’t have they attacked? Where did they come from? Terminators of the 1st veteran company took samples of the ship and dated the ship to be around 11,000 years old. Finally Calgar ordered the boarding of the ship, what the terminators and captain adamant found was numerous unconscious marines in a strange sort of hyper sleep. He reported his findings to the inquisition and holy terra itself. The order was simple exterminate. Marnues thought long and hard about this decision he looked at their weaponry and armour they seemed ancient but these marine beared no resemblance to chaos marines, they still held the imperial eagle and had no physical corruption. Instead Marnues ordered to take each and every marine prisoner on the moon prison vulgar.

Commander Tyler awaked to see him chained to the wall with a strange man staring at him. Tyler was confused and began to throw up and pass into unconsciousness again. He awoke 3 days later to find the man there he asked where am i; the man said I am inquisitor bard of the inquisition you will answer my questions or be destroyed. What is the inquisition where am I screamed Tyler, do you know who I am? I’m Captain Tyler commander of the 2nd great company, I am the deliverer of the emperor and I will not answer your questions you will answer mine. Do not push me you piece of filth I am the delivery of the emperor I am his divine will and if you have one more outburst it will be the end of you and your sad little company, now tell me who are you and where the hell did you come from! My name is commander Tyler of the 2nd detachment of the 3rd great company of the death guard, Mortarion and the emperor sent me on a task to set up a base of operations to combat the new ork menace that’s is my mission and is my truth, I woke up here all I remember is being stuck in a warp storm and then a bright light. The inquisitor was stunned the new ork menace? The emperor sending him there? Commander you do know that the emperor has not been active for the past 10,000 years replied the inquisitor. That cannot be replied Tyler I saw the emperor not two weeks ago? And what is this inquisition business and why am I being held prisoner, if am the emperor’s servant and have fought more battles throughout this crusade than you have your entire life. The inquisitor was stunned and started to believe that there was something wrong. That is all replied the inquisitor and left.

Did u get any information inquisitor bard asked Calgar? No if did not he replied? He said Primarch Mortarion and the emperor sent him on a mission to help combat the new ork menace. New ork menace? Replied Calgar they’ve been threatening us for ten thousand years they’re not new. I know there’s something not write i think he is telling the truth Calgar, I mean look at their weapons and armour there brand new they’ve got technology long lost and each marine has shown no sign of taint or heresy. Hmm this is a serious issue bard replied Calgar. Calgar got up and walked to the door come with me inquisitor we must research and find out what is happening here.

Calgar and inquisitor bard left to return to Ultramar and research through their ancient library. For a month they searched and found what they were looking for. Here it is bard warp time rift. Do u think it’s possible though Calgar I mean time travel, it’s impossible for them to have been in there for 11,000 years. Look at them bard replied Calgar they have no memory of the heresy of the emperors death, I believe they may be innocent I mean 1000 marines, you remember the glorious stories of the legions they were exceptionally trained, their knowledge could give us so much of what was lost in the dark days. Yes they could be a great asset to the Imperium but I would not take the chance of a large number of marines falling to the lures of chaos hissed Bard. They may fall but who can tell? Look at the astral claws so valiant and loyal to the emperor, and the mantis warriors remember them? You gave them forgiveness and they fight to redeem themselves, remember the glorious story of garro and his 60 men of who were death guard? Half of the legions who sided with Horus were destroyed because they were still loyal said Calgar. If we were to destroy 1000 innocent marines imagine the rumours it WOULD get out and if the inquisition were labelled as unstable then other marine may question their purpose and wonder why serve for the emperor if his servants will destroy us because of an opinion said Calgar. We may have to consult the elders about this matter Calgar replied Bard. Indeed we will replied Calgar

A month passed and still only Tyler and his two captains had awoken. Tyler thought to himself and questioned what was happening. He was incredibly hungry and asked the ultramarine standing guard at the door. May i have some food brother? Tyler asked the marine simply looked at him. Not for traitors like you he remarked. Traitors what the hell is everyone on traitor i am no traitor now if you will not give me food then I will want to contact the emperor and ask him what the hell’s going on. You honestly do not know do you? Asked the marine, about what replied Tyler. About the heresy the death of the emperor or are you really that stupid. No I do not replied Tyler, THEN SHUT YOUR MOUTCH SCREAMED THE MARINE.

After a long talk with a mysterious man Calgar and bard were told that the old man remembered Tyler and said he was the utmost loyal servant and that he and his men were the most dedicated marines of the emperor, he said test them for screening of taint and heresy if they come up clean tell them everything and turn them into an organised chapter. But why asked bard? Their fellow brethren were traitors so doesn’t that make them traitors? No it does not said the old man, it’s been hatred towards the Astarte’s from this very organisation that is leading to their destruction. The Astarte’s are not the enemy the chaos gods are. I apologise my lord replied bard. The old man took a large breath “ I remember Tyler he was my commander before he left he was a good man an honest man and would have giving his life for this empire, he is loyal and will fight and if you question this I will have you and your men destroyed bard do you understand. Yes trembled bard I will inform Tyler of everything. Indeed you will bard replied the old man. Calgar yelled the old man, sir replied Calgar, train them my brother show them the codex Astarte’s this man will continue the fight and the death guard will once again be glorious and my former legion will be raised from the ashes and they will hunt their former brethren and destroy them do you understand Calgar. Yes I do sir. Then go do it replied the old man.

Tyler was told everything the old man talked with Tyler and told him his mission, funnily enough Tyler new garro, from the scout company. The death guard was turned into a chapter and from there on again the death guard seek to destroy chaos in every form.

Have them back in white/pale power armour of the dusk raiders

Im currently writing a story about that one actually. So far the local government is still trying to figure out who these astartes are, and why they want to have communications with the head of an expeditionairy fleet. Theyve just remembered what those are, all hell should break loose in

Couple things Mitchell.

If Garro is one of the current Grand Inquisitors of the Inquisition, that would make him hella old. Apart from the Emperor he would be one of the oldest living humans not residing in the Eye of Terror(not including "sleeping" or suspended animation Primarchs). The solution to this? Put Garro in a dreadnought like Bjorn The Fell-Handed, as they would be roughly the same chronological age. The Inquisition may have awesome juvenant treatments, but 10 millennia is 10 millennia.

Everybody's right about the "shoot first" business. So you could either go for the lenient and understanding Calgar(it's your fluff after all), or make them loyal renegades.

Something along the lines of: They come out of the warp at battle stations and become extremely confused. Where is the expeditionary fleet? They land on the nearest inhabited world and are immediately attacked by a small force of Ultramarines. They defend themselves and wipe out nearly all the Ultras(the DG are at full Chapter equivalent strength), and question one of the mortally wounded survivors as to why the Ultras would attack their brother marines. The Ultra explains that the DG are filthy traitors, gives them a bit of info on the Heresy, and promptly dies. The DG look through all the Ultras computer files and find out everything. Realizing that the Imperium could never accept them after what Mortarion did, they decide to continue fighting in the name of the Emperor, even though they'll never be reunited with the rest of humanity.

Or something like that.

Otherwise, I think you have the makings of an awesome army there. Keep it up!

I think they are still a few hundred years apart in age, maybe even close to a thousand, as Garro fought in the unification wars and Björn was very young when Russ left.

But hey, Astartes are technicly immortal, aside from battledamage, as said in Flight of the Eisenstein. So why couldn't Garro still be alive?
