hivedestroyer
Hi all, i've been lurking for a while, and now I’ve decided to come out of the shadows and post something What I have now in terms of models are: 2 x 10 CSMs 5 possessed marines Terminator lord I feel it should be a fairly good start to an army, the one thing I can’t figure out is what to paint them as, i'm in between the Iron warriors or I was thinking about creating an army based around the Executioners loyalist chapter (basically having them go in there Penance crusade and figuring out that being good is hard work with no reward so they revert there allegiance back to chaos) So what do you think? kinda need some insight here. killersquid
Sounds like a good enough idea. I am not really one to try and push someone to a particular legion or chapter, I always make my own no matter what army I play. I do know absoultly nothing about the exorists, and when I first started playing 40k at the beginning of 3rd edition I did play Iron Warriors (before I sold them all and made my new chaos army). Thus I am biased and will say Iron Warriors. However, you seem to have a pretty good base of models. One thing your going to need is a Rhino for both marine squads. Also, I have had certain amounts of success with eightman possessed units with a Chaos terminator Lord in a landraider. Footslogging is nearly always not as great a choice as being able to hitch a ride. Your model foundation is a great start. Two ten man units are pretty rocking. I would recommend getting at least a third troops choice (or really any kind...makes no difference, but something that you like and can compliment the army). From there your good to go, and can go any way you want. Corpse.
Before someone comes in and says the lord+possessed are inadequate, they are fine as is. I would suggest building marines with two meltas per squad and place them in rhinos. Powerfists on the champions preferred though. Or meltabomb+power weapon. Rhinos would be the next choice. Something for the footsloggers to follow, and something for the guys inside to get there safely in. Most armies with marines rely on rhinos, even if they are just used as empty mobile terrain pieces to grant cover saves and block line of sight. Obliterators make for a great start for a heavy support for most chaos army ideas. Teleport allows them a space in a fast melee army, short ranged firepower, and the range of weapons makes them useful in a large set of tactics abroad in shooting. (Lash+plasma cannons // move+shoot around a rhino with three lascannons on a target, eliminate it and stay hidden to the enemy) so on and so forth. People will suggest a daemon prince, they work well in rhino heavy armies for two reasons. One is their wings, mobility, second is taking hits. Their damage potential depends on the enemy just like your other HQ's, they have bit a broader range of effective targets though but cant hide inside units by joining them. (Or be transported, which is why a termi lord is a bit of a dubious choice for rhino armies since he cant get inside one) If you run a gunline army, a rhino with two marines shooting out, two plasma guns, or a PG+heavy weapon + havoc launcher on the rhino is also an option. (Refer to magnetizing parts) Your troop fill a role and in numbers they can bring down anything, so dont split them up unless the enemy is really weak (like imperial guard, grot heavy/gaunt heavy armies). Though be in practice of the coherency distance and what to do against blast heavy forces. Good luck. My order of approval for a beginner of chaos: 1: Rhinos, maybe 2 is a good start, dont be afraid of making combi-weapons/havoc launchers for them, they are worth it. 2: Obliterators or Daemon Prince 3: Obliterators or Daemon Prince (your choice, I prefer a unit of each) 4: More marines, perhaps expand into a cult troop deending on your favored playstyle. 5: Up your rhino count to 4, this is good up until 1500 points in most cases you can make it work if your clever with their mobile terrain ideas. Check the various links in my signature for tactics and ideas to hone your style of play, you also may want to refer to the chaos tactica and go into other parts of the site for more marine tactics of all kinds. TheDarkApostle
Berzerkers are definitely a Gods-sent against the Tau. Remember, when fighting Tau, always get them in Close Combat, where Berzerkers are the undisputed masters :) TDA Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/169737-starting-up-an-army/#findComment-2004879 Share on other sites
