Silent Swords - WIP

I do understand that correctly, you're saying the head should sit lower between her shoulders, yes? Slightly (!) closer to Terminator Armour, if you will?

EDIT:

Had a look at the thread with that modified sister, and I know what your talking about.

If you, Mister Trygon, or any other converting genius out there has any ideas on what to do with her arms I'd be very grateful. Because the scout arms suck. They suck on the standard scouts, and they suck even more on the one I'm doing....

An evening's worth of scratching, filing and lots of cursing:

I prime my models (very thin) once on the sprue and then when built, so everything grey is shaved down. That would be almost everything. I tried to make the shoulders less bulky, slimmed the legs, gave her ankles, unbulked the arms, removed a miniature's head worth of plastic from the codpiece (:tu:), shaved the chest down at the sides, shaved the waist down a little bit more.

I thought this would be an easy thing to do. The Storm, that was easy. Heh.

Anyways, comments and critique very much appreciated, as always....

Nice work on all your stuff! liking the painterly style for your marines. (dead biker dude rocks).

not to be a pain in the ass or anything but for your female scouty person, how about imperial guard arms? slightly smaller as those shoulders at the moment look way too wide.

feel free to ignore everything i say as i'm quite tired at this point in time :D

The Scout is looking great. Now I am very interested to see how this turns out.

As for Imperial Guard arms, they are nothing more then slightly smaller Scout arms. You might have the same hate for them. Though the man is right, they might look a bit better. The shoulder pads would be smaller and 'lean' into the model better.

nice the proportions are off in a few places, but so is the rest of 40k!! is that a hasslefree head or another manufacturer and are you adding hair or keeping it as an "alien (as in the film)" style chick with shaved head cos she's badass B)

After the "slight modification" to the scouts anatomy that was supposed to be the easy part turned out to be a real pain in the ass what I thought would be the difficult part of the conversion went really smooth:

That round thingy on the side of her head is supposed to be a socket of some sort, in keeping with the overall admechy theme I'm trying to give to the army.

And yes, it's hasslefree of course....

These look really great. Decurio is my favorite, because of the very subtle posing. You can tell he's leaning to his right, and about to smash someone in the head with that mace at full throttle. BAM! Brainshower.

The female Scoutlooks good so far, as well. The Hasslefree head fits nicely. Do you happen to know if the empty IG Cadian helmets would fit over that with some hollowing of the helmet?

I am a Chaos Guard collector and happen to own some Cadian bits along with Hasselfree heads, so I can tell you; yes.

Very impressive stuff! In many ways, probably some of my favorite models I've seen on the B&C forums. I myself am a "sloppy" painter in some ways, but when you look at my actual illustrations (I'm a starving artist in real life) you will see that my mini's are simply an extension of my illustrations... painting on metal/plastic versus painting on a canvas. So I completely understand the motive. Anyways, enough ranting about myself.

I'm also greatly impressed by the fact you took an artist's artistic style (Blanche's) and put to your own use... and I must say, very successfully! This will be a top notch army when fully painted. And don't sell yourself too short, I think a refreshing style like this could easily be competition winning worthy, especially if the context of "blanche's 40k illustrations, in miniature form" is made known. Either way, they will definitely stand out in a line up.

I freakin love you, Trygon. Imay just get me some of these, do some customization, and buy a resin casting kit from MicroMark. Custom SoB parts would make it an army worth playing.

Scout is mostly done, decals are still in the design phase. As they are a different geneseed they'll get their own heraldry, although something in style with the Silent Swords....

Maybe I should go back to those eyes...

EDIT

Just noticed that line on the inside of her right knee. Fixed it. Just imagine it's gone - you'll have to live with the flawed picture, because I feel lazy today and won't take a new one until she's based or has her badges, whatever happens first... :(

Overall I think it's okay for the first one. I still have to figure out how best to apply this style to a scout.

Group shot with an old skool "elbows-tied-behind-back" metal scout I painted in another life and a test miniature for the Silent Sword's paint scheme, for size comparison.

Enjoy....

She came out quite nicely I have to say. She does look slightly genderless, but she is still someone that is on the path to becoming a super human. The change in body structure would play havoc on her womanly shape.

looks great, I was planning on buying some of those heads and you make it seem like a great investment! although i have a different idea for it...

Am I the only one that finds this chap's last sentence suspicious?

Thanks for the kind words. ;)

I was going for a slightly androgynous look, so I think I can book this as a success. What you can't really see in the pictures is that she's not entirely bald, she's got a nice stubble (on top of her head). I might try to capture that when I bring out the cam next time....

Look what I did last night (hint: I wasn't sleeping.... :))

Decurio -what is my chapter's version of Sergeant ( sp?)- of the Scouts. As you can see I customized him quite a bit. He's taller because of plasticard spacers under his feet, between torso and legs, in his shoulders. I made them quite small (except for the soles) and built the rest up with GS. His shoulderpads are beefed up, too, also the right one has an additional "crest" and the left one has PVA rivets.

http://img40.imageshack.us/img40/575/lar33.jpg

Size comparison. I wanted to make sure it's obvious that he is a SPACE MARINE, while the others are mere scouts.

Also it is this big, beefy bastard of a badass Space Marine that makes my conversions on the other Scouts shine.

I like these quite a bit & the female scout looks great. I'd probably suggest sticking with cadian or even eldar & tau arms as they'd be thinner and have smaller hands, do some GSing or cutting to get rid of icons or whatever. You want to avoid the girls having giant man hands, it'll take some working converting the figs but they'll look a lot better because of the extra attention to detail.

Also if you want to experiment with some alternate helmets Pig Iron Miniatures link makes some really good ones that are fairly streamlined and a little less bulky looking than marine and cadian helmets, so that might enhance the look of it being on a female.

I do like the "sloppy" paint look, it reminds me of digitally generated art. There's a green blob on the front wheel of the chaplain bike is that intentional?

PS thanks for not sticking giant boobs on the standard scouts and saying done! ;)

(there's too many bad female marines done like that)

@paulson games

Thank you.

Those are cadian arms. I left the hands as they are because

1)my sculpt-fu isn't good enough for petite girl-hands anyway,

2)GW miniatures all have big hands, even the females

3)they wear thick gloves, of course! What did you think....?! ;)

That's not a chaplain, it's a Decurio (sargeant). The green blob is GS I used to fill the middle crevice these wheels come with, and it'll go away as soon as I base him. I just slapped some black paint onto the wheels, some which subsequently rubbed off the GS. I didn't fix it because the tires are going to be dirty anyway, and because I think I can just as well fix that when I work on him for the basing.... thanks nonetheless....

EDIT:

Well, giant boobs are.... not my style.... heh.

I suggest you purchase a new Catachan command squad for female hands. The hands in these sets are smaller. Paint them as gloves and your set. I use them on the Gaurdswoman I have scattered agmonst my Chaos Guard army.

What about the cadian one? And then I'd still have to replace the hands holding the shotgun.... not quite sure it's worth the hassle - looking at the model I don't feel her hands are too big. Do you?

I have an idea for a guard army at the back of my head (to go together with this one, backgroundwise), and when I get around to start working on it I'll get back to those catachans for my own gardswomen though....

Btw, I'd love to see some of those chaos guardswomen. I know we're on a PA only forum, but I guess noone's going to get into your face for posting a link.... and if so, you can always PM me.
