Wolves in Apocalypse.

So Im curious... space marines seem to be a little undergunned in Apocalypse in many ways... what would you/ do you bring to a 5000pt game to help you out against things like crazy ork formations and super heavies?

Right now Im considering a 13nth company wolf lord with the Chapter Relic strategic asset, stormshield, RC, Runic Armor, Frags, and Mark of the Wulfen... just to see if I can drop him out and kill a titan.

If it works, Im buying an Inquisitor Scale space marine and making Leman Russ.

Well, to an Apoc game, I brought the following (Off the top of my head):

Masters of the chapter (Grimnar + the rest)

Ancients Assault (5 Iron clads + Iron Priest)

Suppression Force (2 Whirl winds + Land speeder spotter)

6 scouts with Melta Bombs (Sacrificial lambs to take out super heavies)

Wolf Lord + WGBG on Bikes (Expensive, but by the allfather they didn't disappoint)

20 Grey hunters

30 Blood claws

Land Raider Redeemer

Land Raider Standard (Godhammer?)

3 Predators (2 LCs, 1 Dakka)

4 Whirl winds with Assault Cannons

3 Long Fangs in Rhino

some stuff was in pods the rest rushed across the field on bikes or Land Raiders.

My team mate and I made sure we got 1st turn and using Masters of the Chapter I could bring reserves on the table in the first turn.

That is the one thing a Space Wolf player must do in Apoc!!!

That combined with our OBEL scouts and Melta bombs is unbelievably OP. And that's saying something when you're talking about Apoc!!!

Any way, the combination of the wargear we can give a Lord + retinue on bikes, OBEL'ing scouts, and the number of AssCannons we gan give our termie units more than allow us to hold out own.

Now that I have seen the glory, I would never go to an Apoc game with less than 3 scout units with Melta Bombs.

Also, ancients assault force is sickening. 5 Dreadnoughts coming in from the side seriously demoralised my opponent and in the end, the guy right in front of my was crushed to pieces and never proved to be much of an obstacle.

As long as you co-ordinate with your teammates and arrange and overall tactic, you don't have to worry about Wolves not holding their own in Apoc

When my company is finished it will consist:

Blackmane (Different name + Fluff)

Rune Priest

Large WGBG Termie Assault Squad

Ven Dread Plasma Cannon

7 WGBL

Rune Priest

Ulrik

Terminator WGBG

2 OBEL Scout packs armed to the teeth with tank hunter goodness

45 Grey Hunters each with WGBL

20 Blood Claws

Large Biker squad

5 Long Fangs

Attack Bikes FTW

Basic Suppression Force

2 Preds

Armoured Spearhead 1 LRC 2LR

3 Vindicators

Then Guard allies:

2 Baneblades

1 Shadowsword

Lots of Vendettas

I too like the chapter relic.

I reccommend lots of templates such as vindicators and baneblades

Yeah, I typically just take the most OP options I can think of: decked out termie squads, and lots of them, nasty bike packs, lots and lots of armor, fully decked out GH squads (with all the bells and whistles, these guys are rock hard), and of course, i have my lil hellhammer variant baneblade. This badboy is my all time rockstar (str 10, ap1, no coversave 7" template? hells and yes) and typically will kill about 1k worth of models in a game, and it has yet to die.

I guess in the end I try for larger apoc games too, so that I can field as many of my wolves as possible. Nothing feels better than emptying the case :tu:

gate'ing rune priests;) use your normal meltagun equiped grey hunters as 13th company long fangs and voila, some nice anti tank;)

i once brought my wolves to the field, had to walk all the way down that 24" no men's land toward a superheavy tank gunline because i had to change my list tha last moment

only armour i got were 2 rhinos and a leman russ exterminator

in the end the leman russ was the only vehicle that survived everything

I have used the pre-heresy Space Wolf Battle Company from Bell of Lost Souls which is similar to the normal battle company except for unit sizes but it gives your whole army Furious Charge.

Any spare points I spend on squads of Zealots from Witchunters as they can damage light tanks on the charge with the Strength boost and stick around long enough to hit back at marines with the Initiative boost.
