ok im in the process of building my army so im planning how to paint them too okay:

shadowgrey/blue mix for the armour

yellow pads

red guns

red eyes

so what colour power weapons should i use?

i can't imagine red power weapons working tbh, and is green too contrasting?

most SW players seem to go to blue, is that the fluffwise colour or just the one that suits the best

thanks in advance

I use black.. and then drybrush silver over them. For Powerweapons in particular that is. Looks like a real battle used sword.

Because I like the realistic look, and lightning bolts just didnt work right

For Frostblades I use a chainaxe, and I do the teath white, with drybrushed silver over it.

Because theyre made from the teeth of tyranid spaceships, so they should look something like bone

Chanswords are red with silver teeth, thinly blacklined.

Because I like the color red, and theyre metal chainsaw teeth

But really its all up to you man.

Because your the one who gets to paint them and look at them every game.

I use Enchanted blue base, followed by a dry brushing of enchanted blue mixed with white about 30/70 that starts just above the base of the weapon to leave some of the original colour near the base of the weapon. I then dry brush pure white a bit above where I started my previous mix careful to leave some of it trailing in to the blue and finally a VERY light brushing of mithril silver all over. ;)

But go with whatever you fancy.

Hey,

I'm another one that does mine blue,

Start with a chaos black base

paint whole weapon enchanted blue

paint on lighting bolts with 50/50 enchanted blue/ice blue

thin lines of space wolf grey leaving the ehcnated/ice mix showing on each side

I had thought about doing them in red but i decided that it would look to chaosy for my taste, but as has been siad, go with what you feel works for you

Long Fang

Well, at least Luke Skywalker had a green power weapon. That's what I call a formidable example.

Considering the fluff, Mikal Sternmark (in Wolf's Honour) had a red power weapon, Ragnar's frostblade (judging from the cover of Wolfblade) is a big grey and red sword with white teeth and some runes on it, some power weapons (such as Schaeffer's power sword) are blue or at least have a blue aura...

Not having painted a single blade in my life yet, I would suggest painting those darn power weapons either blueish or red - or letting them look like good old steel swords with only a colourful glimpse of something more. If you don't insist on being fluffy, make them whatever colour you wish... I bet pink power weapons would be truly frightening.

Like Grey Mage, I paint my power weapons like normal blades. They only have that energy field when they are switched on, actually iirc, only when they hit something, so at all other times they would look like normal weapons.

I will probably paint my librarians' force weapons yellow with lightning/glow effects, though.
