BT Sword Brethren WIP

Recommended Posts

Hey all

I've started to redo my Sword Brethren unit since I was unhappy with how my Dark Angel Veteran conversions ended up.

So this time round I'm using the Grey Knights.

*Note: Stripped the GS off and started again, scroll down past the first several posts.

What I'm planning to build are:

1 with Pair of Lightning Claws and Combat shield (will be greenstuff-chained to a gauntlet)

1 with Melta Gun (Converted Incinerator)

7 with BP and Chainsword

Posted below is the first bp and chainsword guy I did today.

Camera's not the best, but hopefully you get the idea.

Fairly simple, just cut the metal arm holding the storm bolter off in about 3-4 places.

The bolt pistol arm matched the way his head is facing, which was an added bonus.

Will add some purity/crusader seals to his chest to cover up the filing as well.

Green stuffed a small loin cloth on the front, don't think I'll go with a full tabard for them, and still not sure weather or not to add an over-the-shoulder cape.

Any thoughts?

Will update with more conversions soon.

Cheers.

Update 1:

Got a new camera today, and did some more work on the first model last night so here's a couple more pic's.

Next up will be the LC and Melta models in the next few days or so.

I do agree the over the shoulder cape doesn't look quite right, at least for the GW SB models - I did a smaller style for my Marshall which turned out alright.

For now I've gone down the Emperor's Champion loincloth style which I think works out pretty well.

Cheers.

Update 2:

Built a few more last night and took some pictures this afternoon.

Really liking how they're working out so far.

2/3 built and the other 3 are going to require some more work - cut a little too much into one and he's missing most of his left chest :)

The incinerator to meltagun is also proving to a tad more difficult than first thought but I'll deal with that.

There's a few mold lines I've missed in places so a little polish needs to be done before painting.

try using vasaline on the sculpting tool - it makes the GS a lot more smooth - also buy (or use) a sculpting tool - i can see your fingerprints all over it!

other than that, they are great - using GK bodies is genius.

Cheers for the comments and advice, it is appreciated.

Did some clean-up on one of the models, let me know what you think.

I've trimmed in some areas and rounded off with some sandpaper.

It's about the same thickness as the BT tabard's now, while still having that depth.

still looks abit....flat

with GS cloacks, tabbards and capes you need to exagerate the folds

grad a SoB model or a techpriest model and use that as a basis

failing that there is a tutorial in the librarium

For the GS impaired (unfortunately you, at the moment, fall into this category) bits are your friend. Honestly, your GS tabards are awful and seriously take away from the coolness factor of the GK, so let me give you some suggestions.

I've made sword brethren in different ways, including using a commander cape along with a company champion loin cloth. You could just use the cape with a normal BT tabard. I've also used assault terminator groin gaurds to bulk out their armor as well as just giving the model a ton of crusader seals.

I'll get some pics up later if i can.

The age old cliche, if at first you don't succeed, try, try again.

Did some more research, spent more time on it, did a few practice runs, and here's the result.

Haven't done a cloak as yet, but will get there.
