Black legion marine squad.

Recommended Posts

Hi all.

I'm getting back into 40K and as well as a small guard army,i also have enough chaos parts to make 16 marines,5 havocs,a lord and 3 loyalist terminators i'm considering converting into Obliterators.

I'm going to be trying my damned hardest to get this small force painted and ready for the upcoming summer holidays,to use in all the leagues/events that GW will be running.

'Bout time i started gaming!

I painted these yesterday and an hour or 2 today:

I'm really happy with these, besides 1 or 2 of the freehanded eyes of Horus.

To be honest they were alot harder and time-consuming then i'd expected the Black legion to be to paint.

I hope you all like them. :D

Cheers.

Hi.

Thanks for the comments guys, greatly appreciated!

:)

Regarding the highlights, the flash on my camera has a knack for picking up all the flaws in my painting and making them far more obvious than if you were looking at them in real life.

Still,i'm happy with them. B)

I've another 5 marines roughly 60% painted, and some plague marine allies WIP,so i'll maybe start a diary other in WIP.

Cheers.

Nice, solid looking and looks definately good on tabletop. But they're a bit dull, like every Legionnaire I've ever seen.

You can make them look a way more detailed and ornate just by doing little battle damage to here and there, little chips, scratches, bullet holes and like.

All over the armour, just little damage everywhere. Grey highlights should be done extra lightly, because when done a little wider they burst out between all that black.

Also, you should paint all those little things in backpacks and all gold to add contrast. And when painting gold, I wash it first brown, then black and then highlight it lightly. And even though it's Black Legion, it doesn't mean everything has to be pitch black :P

For example, I use red in the bolter casings and occasionally in hands (chosen) and wash them with brown and black, then do some chips and highlights. Also, you can make their legs a little bit dirty, just a little amount of scorched brown with some very light highlights does the trick! Marks of battle bring some colour, just use your imagination. Every extra bit of wargear adds color too, grenade/ammo belts, extra spikes, splashes of blood. You can use a lot of time in one Legionnaire, though many just look at them and wonder how little time that takes. They can be time-consuming to paint, really.

I've painted Black Legion for seven years, and mine looked much like that just a year or two ago. Not that they're bad, I know those look great on the tabletop even now ! B)

ps. Do more colourful bases for them too, some mud bases would be awesome !

Hi,

Thanks for the comment Dràyhèn.

I will definitley be taking alot of your advice into consideration. In fact i've actually changed the alligance of these Black legion marines to Slaanesh,so i will be going back and adding some purple in places such as shoulder pads, gauntlets and kneepads.

I've also painted the rim of the bases brown on a few of the models which helps them to stand out,so i'll be carrying this across the army.

I'll be updating my diary in the WIP section later hopefully with some progress on the rest of this squad and by then i should have added the purple areas,so you can see if it adds something more to the models.

Cheers,

Mike.

P.s.Any chance you have pictures of your own Black legion models?I'd be very interested in seeing them.

Wow those are pretty damn good.

Thats the type of painting standards i hope to be able to achieve in a few years.I really like the freehand on the shoulderpads.

Good find.

When will we see some of yours? If they are up to the standards of these fine terminators,i'd loce to see them.

Cheers,

Mikey.
