Will this be worth it?

hey everyone,

Adding on to GW is taking my wallet when i get another sisters quad + 3 immo's(rhino's) i will have 1000 points. After that it seem that it will be hard to for me to get up to 1500 until i get a job next year. So i thought that if i collect 1k of space marines (just read new codex and watched a couple of you tube videos) and then i could ally in my sisters into the sm army and i would have 200pts and then i from that i can start adding onto both those army's. Pretty much i'm asking will sisters do good with space marines? i love the sisters of battle but there gettin so god damn expensive. Fluff wise it will make sense since i want to paint blood ravens (yes i am a hardcore dow fan). Pretty much 4th company blood ravens are roumered to be turning to chaos after a certain artifact is found so they need some watch dogs aka in the shape of an inquisitor and sisters. What do you people think?

The problem you have is you can either take SM as your main force or WH as your main force. If WH is your main force you can't have SM in it so this doesn't work. If you have SM as your main force, you can only have I think its 2 troop choices as allies and one fast attack.

I would say look at going with guard as allies instead. If you use cadians you can make them IST which are actually part of the WH codex and don't require allies at all.

There are several ways to save some money:

Use counts-as. For example, IG can be counts-as ISTs (I use 'em for that, and when painted right they look fine). Also, Whilrwinds make excellent Exorcists, and various specialty and non-GW miniatures can work as assassins, arco-flagellants, or inquisitor+henchmen.

Use an orbital strike. Seriously, it's 80pts and costs 0 dollars, giving you the best value per dollar of any unit in the game! :)

Scratchbuild vehicles. It's time-consuming, but the results are quite good, and it saves a boatload of money. Do a google search for "paperhammer 40k," and you can find some good templates. Then just get some .5mm thick card (find it at any art store), a metal ruler, craft glue, and a nice sharp knife.

Buy some Grey Knights. They're hella-expensive too, but they are also a lot of points per model, so you'll get to your desired points level faster. Plus, they have much more flexible allying rules with sisters than regular spacies do.

Assault on Black reach can be very cheap, especially if you can split it with an Ork player. Some stores sell the 2 halves individually too. Then you'll need the Space Marine codex, of course, but it'll give you a lot of bang for your buck.

Not really. I understand the issue quite well, as I too had a choice of more Sisters or start a different army. It came down to economics. It costs more money to buy enough low point units to fill a standard army list than it does to buy enough high point units to fill the same army point total. I.e., it's cheaper to ally your Sister figures into another army than it is to buy 10 Sister vehicles if all you have are the figures; 500pts of Sisters costs more in US dollars than a AoBR box set.

In my case, I have 74 Sisters of Battle figures, 2 Mk1 Rhinos, and 2 Mk1 Immolators that I use to play in 2nd Ed. To mechanize them for a 1750pt 5th Ed build, I would need to buy 10-11 Immolator kits at $35.00 US to which I could then magnetize so each one could be a Rhino, Immolator, or Excorists (cheaper in the long run). By the same token, 1750pts of newly purchased Grey Knights and 3 Land Raiders costs less than the cost of just updating my Sister army. Kind of odd how that works out.

Of course, you can get things cheaper on the Internet. Doesn't change the investment required to play a mechanized horde army versus a lower count elite army, though. But that is my take on it.

Btw, I still play Sisters, but for now they are allied in rather than the parent list.
