Just a taster, more further down.

[Edit] New Pictures at the bottom.

This thread is now the project log for my "Deathwing" army. Planning to take it to several tournaments this year. If I get everything fully painted, hopefully less people will cry "cheese, terminator spam" :)

Tournaments will be the 17/18th of October, and the 24/25th of October.

Time Remaining: 0 weeks.

Status: FAILED

Ok, so my two tournaments came and went, and I didn't get my army finished... but I got VERY close. So having stopped playing World of Warcraft and being clean for four weeks (and counting), I realise how much painting I could have been getting done the last two or so years.

Photo bomb at the bottom.

I think it looks very good, my one criticism I have is that I think the model would look cooler if you went for more of a grey knight terminator head. If I recall there are several tutorials, some on the B&C on how to make a terminator head into a plastic grey knight head.

what is the base going to look like?

That is a most excellent idea. I'll have to see if I can scrounge one off a Grey Knights player in the local club. Failing that, I can always butcher a few trying to convert one.

As far as the base goes, I have a few options. I have the metal base that Marneus comes with. But I was half thinking about putting all the models in the strike force on modelled scenic bases like these ones:

Scenic bases (40mm)

More scenic bases

Has anyone had any experience with scenic bases? I haven't had much of a chance to see any up close and personal.

try putting a big piece of slate on the base - so it overlaps a little, and then pinning him to the slate. this adds stature to the model as well as looking great! just file down where his feet will go and pin him on (pinning is realy important). aslo wash the slate beforehand to make sure it is clean - superglue will not stick well to small granules! it actualy looks realy effective.

Which legs are you using? Are those the legs that came with Calgar? I can't tell. I want to use Calgar for the base of my Chapter Master but I'm not sure how hard it would be to remove he Ultramarine icons from his legs.

AngryJohnny - yes they are the legs that Calgar comes with. There isn't too much that you'd have to hide or remove, and clever painting would probably hide them well.

Following advice, I mocked up a Grey Knights style head for my Captain. I'm quite happy with how it came out, but further suggestions are always welcome:

Clipped of all the pieces for the other two Land Raiders and the rest of the Terminators as well

And finally painting in progress on the first Raider

orphanfeast99 - its multi-part. the arms, legs, body and head are all separate pieces.

LuNCHBiZZLe - I tried cutting some vents on one side with a scalpel, but it didn't come out too well. I was going to see how I go trying to "paint on" the details on the visor.

Hopefully I'll have more progress to report by tonight.

Sorry for the double post, but I had something extra special and exciting I wanted to share. I learned how to solder!

I've worked out a nice place to squeeze the battery pack into while still having full interior details. The "engine compartment" just needed to be moved forward slightly. More pics to explain this when I get around to assembling it later. First I need to get six billion different pieces undercoated and painted! I'll only be doing this one the one Land Raider, because it'll be the centre piece for the whole army.

If you like what you see and want to see more, or if you think I'm making a horrible mess, please let me know!

I'm not dead! I've just been mesmerised by DVDs until my amplifier blew up!

So since I had the day off from work, I got myself up early to paint some models. The fruits of my labour:

And also a photo of my Venerable Dreadnought conversion that I've had lying around for over a month:

So while my attention may wander, my enthusiasm remains strong. Cheer me on to victory, as we count down the weeks towards the local tournaments!

Woot, progress! One entire Terminator squad finished, only three hours late to say it was finished before the end of the week.

i like the color scheme. its very different. Any inspiration for it? and are they DA successors? I am assuming since their your "deathwing" but the logo has an ultramarine U in it so I was curious. Love the paintjob, keep it up!

well done, i love the dread, plasma wires on the sarcothagus? only thing that bug me it the shin pads are very high on the dread

nice job, looking forward to the rest!

Yes, those are the cables off the devastator plasma cannons. I needed something to fill the gap between the sarcophagus and the shoulder armour.

And regarding the shin pads, you're right they are a bit high... I'm thinking I'll add another piece underneath it to cover down to the ankle.

My inspiration was from way back in White Dwarf 192(?) or there-abouts when Ian Pickstock wrote an article about creating your own Space Marine Chapter. One of the example chapters used was the White Panthers. I thought it was one of the most striking patterns around. I just replaced the white with purple

While yes, according to the fluff that I'll be writing for them they are indeed Ultramarines successors - in fact I'm calling them the Patriarchs of Ulixis, Primogenitors (2nd Founding), only the second Chapter of the Second Founding! I just want to play an army of all Terminators, and the Dark Angels Codex is the only way I can do that... so "counts-as" Belial, based off the new Calgar terminator model.

Mini-Update Time! I've been exceeedingly lazy, so I give you...... a Heavy Bolter turret for my Land Raider:

Keeping with the colours that I've used, all weapon cowlings will be blue.

Hopefully I'll get the rest of the weaons for this Raider done tomorrow night, and make some real progress on the tank itself on Saturday.

Ok, so my last update was disappointing, I admit. In the meantime I've been hit with the flu-hammer. First chance I've had to work on it for nearly two weeks, finished off the first hull, still working on the weapons. I've got a small surprise planned for them, hopefully have them finished this time tomorrow :D

New pictures of the hull:

[blurry Pics Removed - see finished product below ;) ]

So unfortunately I have fallen behind schedule by about a week. This weekend I plan to hammer away as much as I can, and Monday will be a solid Day of Painting . We'll see if I can make some of it back up :)

Okay! Finally finished off the weapon mounts this morning, got everything painted and varnished. If I'd known how much of a pain they'd be, maybe I would have stuck with the bog standard ones:

[Edit] Funny thing about the varnish I used, it shows up the brush strokes the left of screen a lot more than was visible before... I'll need to work on that for the next one[/Edit]

Okay, so I'll start working on the crowd favourite next, the LED Raider. And the Thunder Hammer squad that's going inside it. If I work on them together, maybe it'll keep me motivated to finish faster. After that, when I paint the Captain, I'll be able to play games with an army only just over 1000 points. Any practice will be useful.

8 weeks to go (although one week will be MIA, long story). Gives me 7 weeks to get 8 weeks of work done. If I knuckle down (and neglect my WoW characters :D) I should be able to get this done!

Seeing the blue outline on the LR makes me think of Tron.

Doremicom is doing a Tron Templar army.

That Land Raider is pretty dope! I like the idea of using the Razorback turret on the sides. Looks pretty cool.

Those highlights are intense!

Ok yes, so the highlights appear a little extreme. I'm not sure if that's the camera or the lighting, but I've highlighted the black with Shadow Grey :S

Enough waffle. I won't make excuses for failing. But I offer up a sacrifice of photos!
