ExarPucc
I'm going to be joining the ranks of the Fang in the coming month with the acquisition of someones old SW force they have no use for(heretic). As such, the force I'm coming into is a handful of terminators, 2 or 3 scouts, 4-6 heavy weapons, then an asortment of GHs, BCs, and WG. While I plan to sit on the army for a period time and upgrading the models as needed (some are broke, others need some added paint here and there), is there anything I should absolutely add in (outside of a dread)? And as promised http://www.beersmith.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2008/07/brown_ale_web.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/170457-new-to-the-fang/ Share on other sites
hendrik
rhinos and droppods spring to my mind:) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/170457-new-to-the-fang/#findComment-2013607 Share on other sites
Vassakov
Decide what route you want to go - Treadhead or Drop Pod, or Footslogger. Whilst you can do all three, it's not recommended. Terminators, Dreads and Bloodclaws built around a core of Grey Hunters is a good bet, with Tanks and Scouts providing a support element. Grey Mage
Yeah... work on what you have for now Id say. A Whirlwind is a good bet on top of the dreadnaught. Play a couple games, see how you like them.... then if you want mechanized grab a pair of razorback kits- you can use them as rhinos, just dont glue the turrets base on- and a Landraider Crusader. If you want to run drop pods, I suggest getting proxying, and if you like them get three to start. I hope you havemore than 2 or 3 scouts, as the minimum squad size is 4. Hunt around for a couple more if you can... that units really really good. Do you have a Wolf Priest? Thats a good HQ to have on hand- LD 10 and a 4++ are both hard to get in a SW army. Hrmm... and if you decide you like drop pods, well the new ironclad dreadnaught is coming out in like a month, that is always a welcome addition to a DP force. EDIT: I see you already play Crimson Fists.... do you find you enjoy mech or pod or footslogging more? SWs can do it all... just less heavy weapons, twice the assault. Warhorse47
Go with something versatile right now, Rhinos and Razorbacks. You will always be able to use them, and if you set up the Razors with lascannons, you have some antitank capability as well. ChapniK
Always buy the razorback boxes, dont glue the top and you get both a Razor/Rhino same with whirlwinds. If you ever want to get some jump packs bloodclaws for the next codex. Get the bitz kit and buy a box of bloodclaws, its cheaper that way. The ravenwing box is a if you need bikes good send or a speeder. That it for buying purposes. Game wise a core of greyhunters2-3 then pick your poison. ps: magnets are your friends Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/170457-new-to-the-fang/#findComment-2013771 Share on other sites
ExarPucc
My CF force is semi-mech and semi-dp. my rhinos are unpainted currently and i was considering doing mech SW and DP CF. I'll generally run a semi-DP/foot slogging CF army that works well. mech SW could be a very adequate change. Hfran Morkai
ps: magnets are your friends Ah yesss. Magnetise sponsons on your tanks and if you're up to it you're infantry. At the minute with the new codex meant to be inbound stick with basic stuff such as Grey Hunters and Blood Claws. LRCs full of Blood Claws are fun to use. I reckon Predators are safe, not too sure about scouts, we may lose some wargear options (I hope not!) as they can be beefed to a silly level! A while back there as a topic on tactica, unfortunately I cannot find the page the topic is on. From what was said I think SW do well as a mechanised assault army. Dont go quoting me on that though... Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/170457-new-to-the-fang/#findComment-2015556 Share on other sites

Grey Mage
Good Man! Though to be honest, and/or drunk, were a fairly honest bunch around here, even if a couple of us get zealous kicks- just means its been to long since theyve seen battle I think. Roguemarine
not sure if this was mention, but one thing to maybe wait for is the long anticipated new model line coming out before you buy anything...other than that just proxy a little bit with a little of everything until you find out what wolf-style is yours be it 60 BC's charging across the field or 50 GH's sitting back waiting, the choice is yours. KiltedMarine
I like BC bikers and landspeeders, personally. The bikers can be kitted with meltas and power fists to give you a high-T-high-speed anti-tank or anti-monster unit. Speeders can provide mobile fire support most anywhere on the board. Learn from the mistakes of an older wolf and field them in a unit no smaller than 4+ WGPL on bike. A knowledgeable opponent will make them a priority target, and you’ll need the ability to soak up a couple of casualties. If you can, field the ‘speeders in squadrons, too.
