Daemon Prince and heavy weapon marine

Recommended Posts

I decided to update this first post rather than to make a new one. (hrm. realised that I had to bump the thread since it was buried quite deep, oh well).

Approaching battle readiness though there is still quite a bit more to do than I would have liked. I were hoping to have them all but finished today. It's mostly the metall and a general weathering that is left. I'll probably start with a good wash of Devlan Mud or Gryphonne Sepia tomorrow morning.

I am quite pleased with how they are turning out.

I actually wanted to stay clear from that. Partly because Nurgle is always about that (and needn't be) and partly because the Cave Troll has a rather smooth finish that I like. I've got another DP that is all about that stuff, thanks for your comment though, appreciate it.

Dont know if you play 40k at a GW store but if you do they may not let you field the Demon (cool tho he is!). The reason i say this is that i converted sauron the necromancer into a Thousand son champion and they would not let me use it due to copyrigt! My GW are VERY anal retentive!

Nice work! I especially like the prince; you've captured a good balance there and I like him the way he is. B) I concur that the eye could do with a little refining though.

And GW isn't the one being a prat about this; the people who hold the copyright to the LotR movie imagery are. They contracted GW to create a miniature game based on this but stated very clearly that GW was not to mix their imagery with that of GW's own systems.

GW has no choice but to enforce an absolute zero tolerance policy if they are not to be sued for breach of contract. Way of the corporate world guys... ;)

Thank you for your comments. The work continues. He is now sprayed and washed, as you can see the greenstuffing is a "little" rough but I am ploughing on, hoping that it'll turn out ok. The third eye is growing on me but the jury is still out, might remove it in total if it doesn't come out right. Now I'll begin with some suitably pallid colour scheme. Don't wait up for more pics.

Looking at him all undercoated, I think he might well be a Slaaneshi prince instead of a NUrglish one. I mean Slaanesh is all about exess, so maybe his excesses lie in the gastronomic arena! The meatcleaver certainly helps support that approach. He already has some more traditional chains on him, add a bit to that and there you go... :P

Fair comment. Perhaps I was too quick to judge.

where are those wings from?

I am not into Fantasy Battles so I cannot tell you exactly but I believe they are from one of the older dragons, perhaps an elven dragon (I've seen pics when the dragon is being used as a mount by some elven character).

The wings themselves are plastic (the actual miniature is metal) and quite large. I have cut away a third of each wing. All in all I think they do the job quite well but I did give it some thought before using them. In the end what really made me chose them before the many other wings out there were their availability (in my bitz box) and low cost (the dragon was absentmindedly left in my care ages ago by a friend).

hiya,

i am a very lazy person, so i dont know if somebody has already commented on this........but i dont really like the heavy weapons marines pose. It is to static and he is to straight and upright............... he is not standing up in anyway that would allow him to fight the recoil that the gun would give off once he shoots. coz as we all know, guns have recoil.....and if you dont stand and mount up to fight it, you will get blown over, and if you stand on one leg while you shoot, it will be impossible for you to do anything other than fall over.

\But as far as the deamon prince goes............it is so damn cool!!!!!!!!!!

Cheers

Danny :woot:

@Loken86

The firing effects are made by a company called Armorcast (http://armorcast.com/store/index.php?cPath=100). They have an assortment of stuff.

@FallenAngels123

Hey and thanks for your comments. Now, I don't want to be that guy who comes online and asks for comments only to disregard them all but here I have to say that I think you are wrong. You have a valid point in general about the recoil of weapons, however in this particular case the marine is firing a missile launcher - essentially an open ended tube with a rocket or missile inside. While I haven't actually fired one I do not believe there is much recoil to speak of (only a rather nasty backwash).

Glad you like the Daemon Prince though Danny. :sick:

Still working away (slowly). I am trying to have everything ready to be painted before really getting into that stage so not much has happened with the Prince.

Old school Rhinos. They are all but done and yet I feel there is something missing. Got any suggestions? To underline their age they will be painted in a pre-heresy scheme (suitably worn and corroded naturally).

Objective marker - Nurgle Icon/trophy rack/rally point

Objective marker - techno gadgetery. I will probably add the corpse of a Techmarine somewhere.

Here's my latest creation. Nothing extraordinary by any means but I think it might look cool once painted. Now I just have to riddle her with bullet holes and scratches and chipping and what not......it's hard work being a follower of the God of decay....
