Smadders
Hello everyone, I am currently a Chaos player but have decided to join the ranks of the Space Wolves as: 1) I love Ale 2) The whole legendary character thing is super awesome 3) They have some great units. 4) New Codex - always fun. I was thinking of waiting till the new Codex comes out to make my first purchase but I've really got the itch to start painting now. I think I'll make a drop-pod assault force based more on HTH so my question is: What can I buy now that will be useful when the codex comes out and stuff all changes a bit? A drop pod maybe? Or a standard squad of blood-claws? Any advice would be very welcome on starting a Space-Wolves Army. Thanks! Torin
good day my friend Good to see some one that wish to join the wolves. Well for a start you should get a pack of blood claws and a grey hunter pack.. that your most basic thing you need. Im not sure if GW is making new BC & GH model but if they are you should get a pack of the old once.. it will give you more variant. Also dont forget a HQ.. a wolflord would be good. That as far as i go.. i dont want to put in to many idea.. coz it will make it hard for you to decide on what to buy. Cheers. well take care. Durfast Spiritwolf
Sound advice there from Torin - there's a lovely new Wolf Guard model you can use as a Battle Leader until you have a force large enough to warrant a Wolf Lord. Venerable Dreadnoughts are a strong feature in a SW force and count as HQs or Elites and another good call is Wolf Scouts... jedipenguin
Blood claws and Grey Hunter packs should come through the new dex mostly unaffected i'd say (model your GH with bolters tho). Any transports/tanks/pods/dread should also be OK (with dreads stick to standard Codex patterns as they're the most likely to be carried across) I'd avoid getting into Wolf Guard, as their loadout/selection style is probably one of the most likely aspect of the codex to take a hit. I'd hold off on characters too, as the word on the street is they're getting redone. Skrubb
You may not want to max out on the special weapons. We do not know how many we will be allowed with the new dex. If you max, you may not want pack markings, so that you can swap models between packs later on. Best of all is of course to magnetize arms/weapons! Smadders
That sounds like a solid plan, to be honest I'm really not sure what config to even go for. What are considered the most competitive? I'm definately going to model them all with bolters. I think I'll add one plasma gun, they should endure the next codex intact right? What I find difficult to decide is the power weapons/fists. What do people think is the best config? I could simply not include any or leave out the pack markings on those models (which is a v cunning idea).
