Any Daemons up for ‘Ard Boyz?

For those who didn’t catch the news, GW released official rules for the ‘Ard Boyz tourney today. Any daemon players up for the challenge?

In preparation, I’ve been playing around with what can be reasonably called a ‘troop heavy,’ Fate/Crusher list. In games under 2K pts I find that this configuration is tough to play. There are just too few boots (or clawed pseudo pods) on the ground. But at 2.5K, you can afford to surround Fateweaver with enough other models to really leverage his Oracle of Eternity boon.

I’ve also been mulling over a troop-heavy bloodletter list. For example, max out a few troop slots with 20-man letter squads, backed up by 2 thirsters to take out the AV14 vehicles & dreads. That’s more of a fire-and-forget style of gaming but it could also be very difficult to counter.

Are there any other takes out there? If so what kinds of lists are you considering?

I'd agree the Khorne list is quite effective. I've run this in some iteration or another, and it's proven to be very fatal... IF you get the charge off. Another list I enjoy using is a Nurgle / Khorne list, using a GUO and BT as HQs, Bloodcrushers as Elites, 3 units of BLs and a unit of PBs, and 2 x Nurgle DPs for HS.

I think fatecrusher (the list that won last year) will probably be the most competetive. Fateweaver, a blood thirster, and 24 blood crushers. The combination is very killy, very tough, and with deepstrike will get where they need to go. Everything else in the list is just gravy really--there is no right answer for the small stuff until the mission packets are revealed.

Hordish nurgle with epidimus and 4 monstrous creatures to drive the tally up also isnt bad, but that list will be even more dependant on the mission rules.

One thing I do want to mention, though, is that since Daemons won the whole thing last year, expect to see some inquisitors with sanctuary and 2 mystics allied into pretty much every army. Also, I expect dual masters of the fleet in guard armies, with the mentioned inquisitor mystics. So more or less, expect people to play some of the very broken and unfair (and unfun) counters to Daemons because of last year's results.

I've had the same thought. I already expect one of the local IG players to try just that. Now that Out Flanking and other such rules are more common, MotF aren't just for screwing Daemon players though we get the worst of it. I still say that GW should FAQ that rule and state that it doesn't stack. Few rules like that do so and that one is rather potent. Regardless, it makes redundancy in daemon lists all the more important.

Sanctuary is another rule that should now be thrown out of the game. I really only screws daemons but since it's so cheap, with 2.5K lists you might just see it. Wouldn't surprise me. Inquisitors + Mystics will be a must though. We almost need to employ suicide troops to try to contend with them, that is if the troops survive the initial onslaught to take out any enemies in the process.

I guess that's what Ard Boyz is all about. We'll see if Daemons make a similar showing as last time. -OMG

I am seriously considering playing my demons in the preliminary round. I don't have enough bloodcrushers to play Fatecrusher, so I'd have to play a "fair" build. The problem I have is, any "fair" build gives up way too many kill points for my taste. While I feel I would have a better chance of winning games with demons, I don't know if I would be getting enough 'massacre' victories; and if you arent massacring people you arent winning 'ard boyz.

A very good list I played this weekend was.

Bloodthirster

GUO

3 princes with wings and Nurgle and noxous touch

unit of flamers

2 units of crushers

4 units of Bletters

If you maxed out the troop choices and and changed up some Bletters for Plague with icons I think it would be a rough list to face in Ard Boyz.

Also keep in mind the deamon list that won last year if it's the player I am thinking about basicly bent the rules to win in semi-final for sure and the finals I heard.

I can see how this army might do well vs. new IG but not sure how it would fare against hoards. At 2.5K, an ork army can be huge and still have a big nob biker squad or two. Amassed guard might also give you problems (though I have yet to fact that one myself).

I’d be inclined to add more scoring units and some mass killing power in this list.

True enough now that I think about it he played two DA players with deathwing and Ravinwing one was a freind of mine. His third game was me I was as close as he got to horde at 58 models which is not horde.

Pink horrors could help and soulgrinders with phlem could also be helpfull against horde. An all around perfect list would be very hard for me to make I like all the shiny bells and wistles.

I will not be playing Ard boyz but I will be there none the less.
