Wolf Lords

My WL is as follows:

Frost blade, Wolf pelt, bolter, frags, necklace.

Sometimes I run him with fenrisian wolves, sometimes I just attatch him to BC or 4 Termies. Under the current edition, he's responsible for the death of a daemon prince of Nurgle, a squad of infantry and an Emperor's Champion. I learned the hard way, though, that he doesn't stand up well to an angry Avatar of Khaine.

No offense intended but your WL is not set up to go toe to toe with a Daemon Prince, especially with no invulnerable save. You'll lose that fight 9 times out of 10.

I prefer to use my wolf lord as an infantry killer so I go with either the FB/SS or LC for weapons with a WP, WTT and Frags. I run him with 2 Fenrisian wolves and 9 BC's in a land raider. I'm also a big fan or Blackmane.

A couple of people have posted Lords on bikes with both hand weapons (like FB) and shields (like SS). Is this legal? I mean, if it's not legal for any regular bikers (they certainly count as having one less Attack because they actually need to steer the damn bike with one of their hands), why would it be for Lords? They surely can't sit on a bike AND wield a weapon AND a shield (unless they have three hands)!

The argument for the legality stems from the fact that it's not specifically excluded in the codex. Nowhere does it say (as far as I know ... ) that when on a bike, you can't have two weapons (or a two handed weapon ... )

Your best bet it to discuss it with the players in your area and come to a concensus ... house rule it if necesary.

The setup I've been runnig for years is : Frostblade, Bolt pistol, Belt of Russ, Wolf Pelt, Frags. Cheap and killy ... mops up infantry like it's nobodies business.

I'll occasionally spring for a tooth necklace ... but most of the time I'll concentrate on killing basic troops with the Lord and leave and ICs to the PFists.

I also forgot to mention, I usually run him in a pack of CC oriented Grey Hunters. 7x BP/CCW, 2x BP/PFist, all mounted in a rhino. I'll throw in some plasma pistols for larger games.

Wolf Lord Kjarl Frostbringer:

Terminator Armour

Frost Blade

Combi-melta

Runic Charm

Wolf Pelt

Usually runs with a combat terminator squad in a Godhammer Land Raider, and his finest hour was slaying Khârn the betrayer. Just. Khârn dished it out on his own men i.e. rolled alot of ones!

If I have the points I give him the Belt of Russ, but usually just settle for the fact he dies sometimes coz his invunerable save is rubbish (nearly all my other serious characters have storm shields...)

Rao,

In third edition models on bikes had to maintain one hand on the handle-bar in order to steer. That is why in the Space Wolves codex (a 3rd edition era product) the Blood Claws Bikers only come with one weapon, and have no option to get another weapon.

In the fourth, and now the fifth, edition of the game, that restriction was removed from the main rulebook, and models can now use both hands for weapons if they wish.

Our army list has not changed, so Blood Claws Bikers still do not have access to a second weapon. All of the Independent Characters, as well as Wolf Guard, however have access to the Armoury and can select two weapons in addition to a Bike, and therefore can get the +1 attack for having an additional close combat weapon.

Details man, I never said he did it on his own. He merely struck the killing blow. He had help from 4 terminators, they had two p-fists, a c-fist and a power sword to bring against it.
