Joining The Dark Side......

Recommended Posts

Greetings one and all, my blood ravens army is nearing completion, and i need a new army to start playing

All must answer the call of chaos, and i have chosen to join the followers of the dark gods.

But I need help choosing a force to lead:

Word Bearers (Pants-On-The-Head-Crazy chaos priests, love painting red and have gotten good at it, plus cool conversions)

Death Guard (Love flight of the Eisenstein, and plenty of modeling opportunities.

Renegade Black Templar (Have a wide access to bitz, not many armies done using their parts)

Renegade Space Wolves (Am attracted to the "feral" look of the space wolves, plus plenty of opportunities to mix parts with chaos maradurs from fantasy)

Fallen (Lotta dark angel players at my store, plus the dark angel and chaos bitz look great together)

Note: This is from a pure modeling and painting standpoint, not so much gaming and fluff.

Your Thoughts on which army to play?

Votes:

Word Bearers: 0

Death Guard: 0

Renegade Templar: 2

Renegade Wolves: 2

Fallen Angels: 2

I would say WB's are out. You might go pants-on-the-head-crazy if you try to paint another alll red army.

I think renegade BT's would be really kool. The BT robes with chaos shoulder pads etc would look awesome.

Would be and look really unique.

"Emperor's champ" as a khorne champ.

LRC's with spikey bitz (using the BT's dex of course)

And you could switch between BT dex and chaos dex as you wished.

I think you could really do alot with it.

Fallen, I never see anything on them,

You should see my Rapid Fire tournament report, had a unit of Chosen base on Fallen Angels.

Lord Kharloth: Have you though of doing a red corsier type of army not the pure Corsir Marine with red & black, mean just more a mix of everthing you said there. It look cool have a warband of mix troops.

Make it Fallen Angels as HQ/Chosen (Inflty allow them to flank, I see it fitting in with them comeing out of no where). You could use Black Templar as Bezerker??

This way you got the best of all worlds, tons of cool conversion to make each unit stand out. Also allow you to try out a lot cool painting style, etc...

Just another idea that as said allow you of all world to try out ton of cool conversion, new painting style, etc.....

Indeed, why not just do the Corsairs?

Space Wolves will be your Berzerkers

Black Templar can be your marked CSM

Fallen can be Chosen/HQ

WB allies (norm CSM)

And lastly Death Guard terminators (That toughness 5 is a pain in the arse...)

Just need to make A shoulder pad have the black/red on it. Or the Corsairs symbol somewhere on the model (grieve, knee pad, shoulder pad, w/e) and the rest of the model is yours!

So my vote is all of them. :P

I am a modeler who uses any marine bit I can get my hands on to model Chaos... So to me, all your ideas look great!

If you want a specific suggestion, I would say Fallen. They look great, and yes, Cypher is totally cool!!

If you have a bunch of DA players at your store, I would suggest Black-armored Fallen instead of green.

Thanks all for your opinions, leaning towards space wolves and fallen more so right now.

But as for the red corsairs army, i absolutely despise them. their fluff, their paint scheme, and the fact that their pretty much the ultras of the chaos codex

No slight to Dave at all but I've seen armies like this and they look really ununified and "un-put-together", like the guy borrowed a squad from each of his friends to play the game. 1 shoulderpad just isn't enough to pull it all together (IMO anyway ;) )

Thanks all for your opinions, leaning towards space wolves and fallen more so right now.

But there's already fallen armies out there (Aeroplane and Psychopath's stuff looks great btw), I've never even heard (or read) of someone doing a BT renegade force. Choice is yours of course, good luck w/ it whatever you decide ;)

If it just for the one force, then I'd vote for Fallen Angels as the over all army.

Some nice conversion with the Dark Angels/chaos like you said. Also wind up your local DA player.

You said about going toward the Wolfs. I would have voted for Space Wolves, but to be honsty you'd be better waiting until the new plastic models come out in Oct, from what I been told..well I can't wait for the UK Games Day to pick up that least 3 boxies for myself.

Also with Fallen Angels it rare to see a all out army (apart from the odd unit like me & aeroplane). I still rememeber a Fallen Angels army back in my old local GW. Look ace, all metal robe models, had a sort of witch hunter feel. But over all it was great & ton of nice conversion.

i woud go for fallen, simply becous of the great DA-sprues, good reason for converting and liberty (ie: you can d whatever you want)

Fallen or Space Wolf Red Corsairs led by Huron. (see the fluff in the codex)

nothing persenal Ronald, but he said he didn't like them like 5 posts ago
