WingsOfTheFalcon
Hi guys, I've been doing some non-PA stuff but recently had a session in my bits box and this was the outcome: http://g.imagehost.org/t/0330/DSCF4613.jpg My take on a Celestial Lion! What do you think? I've made a combat shield for his other hand but haven't attached it for ease of painting. I'm going to do some GS work on his chest to make the wolf into a lion. Any feedback/suggestion much appreciated. Cheers WOTF. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/171297-celestial-lion/ Share on other sites
WingsOfTheFalcon
BTW, does anyone have links to the colour scheme for Celestial Lions? My search-fu has failed me. :P Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/171297-celestial-lion/#findComment-2024791 Share on other sites

WingsOfTheFalcon
Nice, cheers! Anyone have a decent recipe for gold? Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/171297-celestial-lion/#findComment-2026406 Share on other sites
Rob_Loken
Looking forward to seeing this completed. I have a recipe for gold you can try. Build up your gold from Scorched Brown making sure you have consistent coverage. Keeping adding more Shining Gold with every layer. The end result should leave you with a nice consistent gold. For highlight I suggest using shining gold mixed with mithril silver or chainmail until the highlight is almost pure silver. If you have any Chestnut Ink, that works well for shading in details and such (i.e the Chest detail). WingsOfTheFalcon
Hey there, quick update, the model is now undercoated, I did a little bit of GS work before it went under the black but didn't take any WIP shots, but hopefully the wolf on the chest is now a bit more feline! Here's a mock up of how I was thinking of painting him up, any comments/crits? http://g.imagehost.org/t/0906/lion.jpg Thanks!! WingsOfTheFalcon
Wow, that is a pretty spectacular gold! Might have to go down that route, though I doubt my highlighting will look anything near as good as yours. WingsOfTheFalcon
Hi, Bit of an update, have put down a layer of tin bitz and dwarf bronze (except on the backpack), you should be able to make out the difference in the chest where I've GS'd the wolf to make it look a bit more feline. I decided to go with a blue helmet in the end, though I've not base coated it yet. http://g.imagehost.org/t/0242/DSCF5003.jpg I'm still undecided about a few bits, firstly the deathwatch shoulder pad, should I go all metal or do metal trim with a blue pad? The other thing I'm unsure about is the MC'd bolter and what colour to use on it. Suggestions appreciated! verpine
The other thing I'm unsure about is the MC'd bolter and what colour to use on it. Suggestions appreciated! Viva metallica blue, maybe? I don't know, but i like the model. Can we get a pic of the shield? WingsOfTheFalcon
Viva Metallica Blue? Not part of the citadel range last I heard! ;) You wish is my command, it's just blutacked on for now. http://g.imagehost.org/t/0860/DSCF5008.jpg You can just about make out the battle damage I carved into him before he got UCd. What do you think? Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/171297-celestial-lion/#findComment-2032229 Share on other sites
WingsOfTheFalcon
Just a thought, but do you think a solid or metallic blue would suit better for the helm/pauldrons? WingsOfTheFalcon
Hey, Decided in the end to go with a non-metallic blue, as per the lexicanum entry, so here's an update with mordian blue basecoat. http://g.imagehost.org/t/0236/DSC00303.jpg http://g.imagehost.org/t/0708/DSC00304.jpg http://g.imagehost.org/t/0110/DSC00305.jpg http://g.imagehost.org/t/0412/DSC00306.jpg Does anyone have any suggestions what I should do with the chest piece? I'm thinking either boltgun/chainmail/mithril or maybe even blue as per the helmet and shoulder pads, or I could do it in gold as well. Help!! ps. Gold trousers! Daeothar
Nice work so far. I'd go with a black chest eagle as per this example from the CL article on GW's (now gone) Armageddon site: http://www.fierylions.nl/Pictures/ForumPictures/CelestialLions/Celestial%20Lions.gif And this terminator, which is my interpretation of one such suit present on Armageddon: http://www.fierylions.nl/Pictures/ForumPictures/CelestialLions/CL1A.jpg Keep it up; great work so far; love the use of the Empire helmet. But what happened to changing the wolf on the chest into a lion? WingsOfTheFalcon
Good call, I've decided to do the same with the bolter as well. Really like your termi, though I wouldn't know where to start on the NMM! Here's a close up of the GS work I did, basically I shortened the snout and sculpted some large feline teeth. TBH my GS skills are not very good so I'm quite happy with how it turned out. http://g.imagehost.org/t/0982/DSC00001.jpg Do you have any idea what the symbol is on the left leg of the scheme? WingsOfTheFalcon
Hi, Here's the latest update, tbh there's still a long way to go on the gold yet but it's coming along. http://g.imagehost.org/t/0010/DSC00006.jpg Comments/crits much appreciated. :D Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/171297-celestial-lion/#findComment-2054464 Share on other sites
WingsOfTheFalcon
Out of interest, what is the general concensus on battle damage, does it look better in a silver colour, at the minute mine is just a dark shade of gold. I'll try to post some more pics up later taken with a better camera than the last one. I'm also pondering painting that symbol onto the shield, does anyone know what it is? The lord cypher
Your gold is comeing on nice hve you worked up to the silver on the edges yet on him because you will then see leaving battle dammaged parts dark looks right remember if it's supposed to be painted ie the paint job astarties put to depict there heraldry silver for dammage if it's a solid colour ie bronze items like thunder hammers (a solid block of metal) you go dark with the dent / grove and on it's gdge go very very lightly silver around it like you would a normal edge hope that's help for you Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/171297-celestial-lion/#findComment-2064320 Share on other sites
Iron Phoenix
cypher, i feel like you had something to say, but punctuation abandoned you! it might be a helpful post if there were things like commas, periods...as it is at least I can't read it...and I'm a journalist! Keyoz Devastrius
Do you have any idea what the symbol is on the left leg of the scheme? You mean the scheme in Daeothar post? If I remember right that’s an Armageddon campaign marking.
