The question is "Are you able to field an Exorcist without SoB in the army?"

Actually that's not the question that's being debated. The current debate centers on whether or not the Exorcist itself is a Sisters of Battle unit.

Which has an impact on whether one could include one in an army with inducted marines.

 

Good catch Tom. That is neither the first, nor I suspect the last time I'll posted something demonstrably false in the near decade I've been around here. Seldom intentionally, but it happens. Still there is the fall back that while they may be battle sisters, they formally lack the 'Adepta Sororita' rule which is the basis of teh prohibition of being on the same org chart as marines.

 

I could fluff-rationalise this as once they've been sufficiently exposed to the mysteries of the machine by the maintenance tech-adepts so as to be able to operate it effectively in the field they're regarded as debased and corrupted by their fellows and shunned, much like tech-marines are set apart for their dual allegiance. Only the perfidious may crew these machines, and as such they're not proper sisters.
