Random art of Grey Knights+fire updated 8/08

Recommended Posts

Some random art I whipped together while practicing my greyscale rendering techniques, it features Grey Knights and fire! Good combo imo.

I need to get a pic of my actual army to go along with it, too bad my model painting skills aren't quite on the same level as my digital painting skills :D

Very cool, I like the contrasting blue. Gives them a very...supernatural feel to them. But, question: Whats the deal with the Reaver in the background? Or is it that GK titan that that one guy built?

Thanks,

I guess its a GK titan, I know I've seen one before so I figured I'd throw some in the background to give it some more depth.

I am working on another picture actually, not too close to getting finished, but I guess I'm at about the halfway point so far. I was actually considering doing some sequential (eg. comic) art for GKs and Inquisitors, since I think GK fiction is pretty sparse other than Ben Counter's few novels. I'll try to finish up this next pic tomorrow or something.

Finally finished, at least till I see something that needs to be fixed.

Drawing GK helmets is kind of annoying >.< even when I have minis to look at while I'm doing it. Might be trying some kind of narrative with these guys in the near future...

Make sure you give me good votes on DakkaDakka if you post there

How should one scale Space Marine bodies, anyway? Yours are all fairly slim, for example.

I guess you could take a look at all of the "true scale" space marine models people create. I assume their proportions would be pretty normal.

That's about as close as they can get, really. Heads are close to scale for an ordinary person, but a Marine's head should ordinarily seem small on such a broad torso.

I try to draw them as they appear in the more detailed pages of the 4th Edition Marine codex, or like the ubiquitous image of the one-armed Ultramarine standard bearer - the one in the corner of the Command Squad entry on page 55 of the 5th Edition Marine codex. Their legs still don't fit into their groin plates, and they are still large enough to be considered giants, but at least their necks are not disproportionately long.

Thanks for the kind words guys.

On the SM proportions, I am still working on getting the hang of it, but I usually use reference from the DH and SM codexi. Mine are slim, but if you look at any of my other art, most of my characters are generally slim  I'm not quite used to drawing the massively exaggerated physique of space marines yet.

At least when I draw inquisitors I can generally stick to normal proportions. Hopefully I can get something new done up pretty quick when I get back in town.

Coming from a family of broad-shouldered and barrel-chested men and hanging around friends who aren't skinny enough to make much of an impression, I generally have a hard time drawing tall slim men unless I'm looking at one. All my artwork scales toward people with a fighter's build, women included - some twenty pounds heavier than is generally fashionable on television and film. Only ten pounds heavier if we're talking about Batman or Superman.

This habit of mine combined with the fact that Space Marines naturally are supposed to be massive, means I probably scale them a whole 10% heavier than what should be considered standard

So I finally finished my GK infantry and took a couple of pictures. This doesn't really go with my "artwork" thread, but I figured I'd just post everything in here anyway. I should have some new art(we'll see how long it takes me, lol) coming soon, I have a script written for a short sequential story that I'll be doing.

Anyway, here are pics of my GKs!

I dont like your artwork because they arent desktop sized *nudge nudge wink wink*

Hah, I may have to rectify said injustice. Which picture is the prime offender and what resolution would said desktop sizes be?

Thanks for the kind words Nostromo ;)

I know this one isn't specifically GK/Inquisition related, but I want to keep the thread going... and most of you seem to enjoy it well enough so...

I might be helping out with some art for a Fallout 3 mod that features Black Templars and Orks, should be fun.

I have some script written for a GK/Inquisition romp sequential art story, first scene is next on my to-do list.
