Warhorse47
I know they are there but I can't find the links for SW armies. I'm going to be facing a 1000 points daemon force [Great Unclean One, Soul Grinder, flamers od Slaanesh, Nurglings and Daemonettes] with my Wolves. Links, suggestions ideas? My first time against a straight demon army. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/171514-need-help-with-daemons/ Share on other sites

dragon950
Ranged is very good vs demons, almost every time I've played against demons ranged combat has been the key factor. Most demons are very good in close combat and at warp powers. Might be a good idea to include a rune priest with a runic staff. Best thing to use against the great unclean one is power weapons or power fists, can't remember what his toughness is but its going to be high, plus with any power weapons he wont get his feel no pain save, same thing with the nurglings. Bjorn the Fell-Handed
Dreads are good for holding up his Lesser Daemon packs, specially Bloodletters, as they dont get grenades iirc. But also because you get some sweet firepower. I normally run 2 dreads, one Ven and one basic in my list. For something like a GUO, try WG termies with TH/SS , maybe even PA WG to save points instead of terminators. They also have the benefit of an unsaved wound making him I1 the next turn. BC's also work pretty well against things like lesser daemons. As for dealing with soul grinders, again, in my opinion, some MM dread goodness might help with that. That or speeders/Attack bikes. Vindis are also good against Daemons with large blasts. With daemons, remember, the footsoldiers have fairly abysmal saves. Bolter fire kills very effectively |^_^ Bjorn Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/171514-need-help-with-daemons/#findComment-2027228 Share on other sites
OnlyInDeath
two main ways to take out daemons: volume of fire, staying in cover. Volume of fire: Every daemon has a 5+ (or better for tzeench) invuln save. The best way to get through this is with just pure volume of fire. The best, by far the best, way to take down a bunch of daemons is with a ton of bolters, flamers, large templates. Anything and everything to make those daemons take as many wounds as possible per turn. Staying in cover: NOTHING in the daemon army has frag grenades or any equivalent. Staying in cover means that against those nasty daemonettes (who have a high volume of attacks that rend) or bloodletters (anything khorne is armed with all power weapons) means that you have a chance to lay down the hurt and limit the number of attacks coming back at you, which is key. A few more pointers: Assault cannons and bolters are prolly the best way to take down greater daemons. They cannot be insta killed, and one shot wonders like meltaguns just dont do enough. A squad of GH's armed with bolters, PG and a PP or two can take down a greater daemon in a turn of good shooting. Dont bother with PW's, just bring PF's (at it makes it easier for you to wound, never a bad thing). A mechanized army works wonders against daemons if you stay on board until the flamers are deployed. a unit of flamers can decimate just about any squad it shoots at. If you wait till they come down, then move up in your rhino to rapidfire them w/ bolters, you can take them out before they can shoot at you. Just beware of these guys. They are jump troops which fire a flamer EACH, wounding on 3+, no armor or cover save allowed! Take advantage of the fact that they are coming down with only half their army, randomly determined, in turn 1, and rolling for reserves thereafter (kinda like a poor man's drop pod assault). blast that first wave HARD so you dont end up overwhelmed when the rest of the army comes down on top of you. Remember that nothing can assault you the turn they deep strike in, nor can they move, only run. Grey Mage
Those flamers could eat you alive. Make sure they are a priority target, as thelly be 90% of his ranged firepower. Listen to OID hes got some very good advice. Soul Grinder is like a Defiler on crack. You might want some lascannons to deal with it- a venerable dreadnaught isnt a bad choice. Another good choice is a typhoon pattern landspeeder with multimelta. Runs 100pts, gets you three powerful shots each turn and lets you keep your distance if you need to. Its also really good against things like Bloodcrushers and Bloodthirsters who get a 3+ Armor save from the "Iron Hide" upgrade. But I do expouse that a venerable dreadnaught is a good choice- BS5 assault cannon and a heavy flamer will let you take down alot of demons at range, and against the smaller ones like the daemonettes and bloodletters hes really really hard to kill. Just avoid those monstrous creatures if you can! Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/171514-need-help-with-daemons/#findComment-2027261 Share on other sites
