Titan battles

Recommended Posts

I love the look of titans, the battles of titanicus always have me wanting me to countine reading no matter how many times I know gearheart lays the smackdown. Now thinking about it, Why isn't there a game where titans are the only thing used? maybe some skiratii or whatever those really cool sounding guys are called. The whole idea of codex: titan legio (or should I reverse it to be legio titan?) to me sounds like an idea for those who would like to have games where we are princeps of machine gods where our every weapon devastates and our very stride is the thunder of heavens.

Ok I think the first and biggest killer is the most powerful thing in the world (even the god-emperor and chuck norris combined) and thats money. For one the epic scale are just too small for what I think would make the titans really stand out...not that they already do but I mean titan models say about maybe dreadnought size for the warhounds and wraithlord size (obvious put the thing on a really big meal!) for warlords. Maybe bring in emperor class but from the sounds of things you would have to be the size of a warhound equal in this scale for it (from what I read from titanicus, it dwarfs even warlords and took the combined firepower of I think it is 6 to tae it down, and that was just the shields).

Game mechanics would be more about how to preserve ammo, getting into proper positions to use your weapons and making guestimating to a new level (ofcourse some upgrades of rules to help make it more easier or would yous prefer pure guesstimating?). Stride speed would be a constant, whichever stride your in will make you move that distance while you need to slow down to stop completely. You would have say a limited amount of ammo to use per battle and you'd have to use to wisely, the weapon each having say several modes of fire (like quick burst to emptying the entire ammo storage left or power settings that drain a certain amount of power from the titan) and this leads to another thing, energy levels.

Titans being large machine gods they are, but even gods need to rest sometimes. A titan has limited power in its reactor, each reactor easily able to go through a battle without being near out even with voids up to full. however that isn't true in battle, whenever a void is hit it takes damage and if enough power is put into it, will pop and give a chance for another titan (or maybe the same one, warlords tend to have that sort of firepower). There could be choices etehr to put more power to the voids which would take more to do than to just let it pop and bring it back up but would give the titan a chance to get away to full regenerate it voids in it's own turn that takes even less power than to bring it back up. Movement and targetting are also affected by power if it falls under a certain threshold but other wises doesn't take enough energy to affect gameplay. Some weapon systems will require an amount of power to use like destructors and such so using them would be tactical choices, will the shot do enough to be worth the energy expenditure or is this your titans last ditch attempt at making an engine kill.

On that note, titan damage would be quite a process in itself. Anything from a lucky one hit kill to the titans cockpit, to movement inhibiting leg wounds (and maybe causing the titan to topple but thats only under the most extreme damage). Shots would normally bounce off the voids but in this any damage can do something drastic, loss of power from a reactor hit, weapon blown off or armour has been punctured and now is causing a gradual loss in movement or weapon function as oil leaks out. Now I think we also needsomething else, that is titan boarding. Those men on the floor are a big threat to stray titans, if their servitors get a hold and pin the titan or a squad manages to geta line on to get up then the crew better get ready to fight. This would be something simple, the number of those who got on will increase the chance of killing the crew or maybe just one of them. Notably the princeps would be main target but if by chance they only get a wild shot off due to a shotgun round to their face from the crew then maybe a mod boy or sence guy may get pegged and cause some major problems and hinderances. Ofcourse, dead princeps makes the titan dead on its feet but Considering a titan is living in its own right maybe we could have berserk titans that have lost their princeps but rage on at the loss of their master and fires openly at the enemy without thought and may even target friendlies.

Well I wonder what yous will make of this. Completely stupid, completely mad, completely brilliant or just plain idiotic.

There is a Titans only game call Codex: Adeptus Titanicus, which uses Epic scale Titans against each other. The only non-Titan unit in that game is the Baneblade super-heavy tank which is normally fielded in pairs for Titan-hunting. I have a copy of the PDF when it was available for free from GW that I can pass on.

Sounds like a detailed version of Battletech, or Star Fleet Battles - micro managing a large unit with power / mobility trade-offs.

The scale is about that of exisiting Epic figs - why not use those, rather than try and scratch build a whole new set of vehicles?

For the record EPIC was usurped by vehicles and infantry, it was originally a titans only game. (well kinda, the first rough draft of the vehicle rules were published in WD the same month as Adeptus Titanicus was released, but the base game was titans only)

I want to play an Adeptus Titanicus (the original, the free rules that GW had up were radically different and lack campaign rules) campaign game one day, which requires 7-12 Titans per player, I quite like EPIC scale, but scratch building things that size is beyond me, so I plan on printing out the various templates I've got at half size and then using inches instead of centimeters to compensate as it works out rather neatly.

I just read the rules, and I think with a little creativity and the rallying of other BnC members, we could edit the rules, and create more titans and weapons!

This could be pretty cool!

Just saying, a knight class titan is a little smaller than a marine, and an imperator is around three times the size. Sounds pretty decent size wise. Although they could be a bit bigger.

One idea I had was using Privateer Press warmachine models as titans, I think those khador ones would work the best.

What if we could somehow meld these rules with the apoc rules. I'm sure wembley could fit us in for a few battles between concerts and matches. Imagine 12 40k scale titans per player!
Tell you what, you get your 12 40K scale titans together, and we'll arrange for the arena. Oh, wait, playing in an arena has been done - last week-end even...

So now we are only waiting for you to get your titans together....

Wow, that's pretty impressive. I remember years ago seeing in a white dwarf a huge diorama of horus attacking the palace i think it was, there were these huge walls with hundreds of miniatures lined up along it and a titan hacking away at the wall with it's close combat weapon! I remember thinking 'If only games like that really exsisted' , 'If only we could really play with a titan!'. Now theres all these fantastic viseos of epic battles on youtube, and now i see that some people are taking it even further! This hobby really has grown up with me lol! (Althougth it's up for debate as to how grown up i am..... or anyone on this forum for that matter. They are plastic soldiers after all as my girlfriend keeps telling me!) If only i had the money, time and big enough brushes to paint a titan, let alone 12! Were you involved in said arena battle Accommodator? What was the lineup like?
