For Queen and Country (or Russ and the Emperor?)

I'm not sure how many of you guys know about the ETC so a bit of background:

The ETC is an international team tournament where teams of 8 represent their country in a tournament in Europe. Each country can only have 1 team so each team is theoretically the best 8 players in their country. Whilst i appreciate that this isn't neccessarily true for a whole host of reasons it does mean that you generally have 8 players representing your country who are of a very good standard. Its been going for 3 years now and has grown in size and stature with each year.

This year the event is being held in Munster, Germany and has a total of 15 teams:

1) Hungria

2) Denmark

3) Italy

4) Poland

5) Slovakia

6) Austria

7) England

8) Russia

9) Sweden

10) France

11) Switzerland

12) Northern Ireland

13) Germany

14) Spain

15) Faroe Islands

The WFB event at the same time and place has 28 teams so thats a total of 344 players + a side event for 40k and wfb with another 200 places available + judges and organisors so a rather large event!

I am lucky (or maybe not we will see) enough to be the Captain of the England team :P

We have what i consider a strong team with everyone having won at least one major tournament in England and several of the team having won and/or placed top 10 at the GW heats and/or final.

What i'm planning on doing is a bit of a mini report leading up to the event and then some bat reps and photos from the event. Hopefully people don't mind me doing it here as i'm using my Space Wolves for one last hurrah before they go to ebay when the new codex rears its ugly head (and i end up spending a lot of £ on the new models!).

My aim is that we go with the following targets:

1. Have fun!

2. Not embarrass ourselves. Hopefully we will finish top half. Anything better is a bonus :)

Fairly simple really!

The list i have settled on is:

Venerable Dreadnought [twin linked lascannon, heavy flamer, extra armour]

WGBL [frost blade, bolt pistol, wolf pelt, frags]

WGBL [terminator armour, frost blade, cyclone missile launcher, wolf pelt]

4 Scouts [melta gun, frags]

WGPL [bolt pistol, power fist, frags]

Dreadnought [twin linked lascannon, extra armour]

8 Claws [2 fists, flamer, rhino]

WGPL [combi-flamer, power fist, wolf pelt]

7 Hunters [fist, 2 plasma pistols, melta gun, 3 bolters, rhino – hunter killer missile]

WGPL [combi-flamer, fist, wolf pelt]

7 Hunters [fist, 2 plasma pistols, melta gun, 4 bolters, rhino – hunter killer missile]

WGPL [combi-melta, fist, wolf pelt]

6 Hunters [5 bolters, plasma gun, razorback – twin linked lascannon]

2 Landspeeders [multi meltas]

I have a bit of painting to get the army ready, namely a rhino, a twin lascannon dread arm and a hunter killer missile or two.

The rest of our team (you can only have 1 of each race) consists of daemons, orks, eldar, witch hunters, codex marines, necrons and chaos marines.

There is a tournament coming up on 11 July where i will use the army and i have a practice game on tuesday with more to follow hopefully!

glad to see that the wolves will get represented! Good luck to you, and I hope you can represent England with pride! It's a shame that everything in America is being scaled back, when it seems like you guys are pushing forward (no more gamesday GT's (hell, no more gamesdays other than baltimore...), only having adepticon being their big central USA tourney, etc). glad to see you limeys are keepin it strong!

the jeske, we aren't really bothered with people know because there are so many permeatations within each race countering it until all the lists are in is pretty much impossible ;)

And even then see the number 1 reason for why we are going :)

See you there m8 , see you there. also thx for posting what the you UK guys are playing very helpful.

At least when your packing your miniatures away from the dead pile you can say you have a slight chance of winning. Go Team UK!!!

First practice game last night and i played Chaos. His list was:

Prince with lash and wings

Prince with warp time and AP3 flamer

2 x 10 marines with 2 melta, fist and in rhinos

10 Plague Marines with 2 melta, fist in a rhino

4 Terminators with 3 combi plasma, heavy flamer and 2 fists

3 Predators with autocannon and lascannon sponsons.

The mission was capture and control.

The game ended up in a draw which was a good result against what i consider a tough list. I got first turn and put 3 hunter killers, 3 twin lascannon and 2 krak cyclone shots into his predators stunning one and immobilising the other. That would go on to be the story of the game essentially.

On his left he convoyed the 2 marine squads forwards and dropped the terminators down. I managed to repel them with the 3 grey hunter squads and the dread after the deep striking speeders and lascannon knocked out his rhinos. The claws were thrown towards his plague marines and 2 princes and died fairly quickly but held him up long enough for me to take out his left flank, securing my objective. Taking his objective wasn't going to happen after 2 rounds of shooting at the preds did, basically, nothing. It put me on the back foot and whilst the draw was comfortable in the end a win was, imo, impossible.

Overall i was happy with the result against a good player and a good army. Enjoyable game too :D

I'm playing Eldar on Tuesday and will remember my camera for that one!

Yeah no team Scotland as yet again there was a total lack of interest and/or commitment for enough Scottish players this year to get a team going (i tried the past 2 years, Timma tried this year, we will try again next year) which is why i am now having to wear an England top despite the pain it will cause my ancestors :)

I'll make sure to get plenty of photographs of you in it, just to remind you of the good times ;)

Managed to get another game in last night against Eldar. He was using:

Farseer

Avatar

10 Dire Avengers with exarch with wave serpent

6 Pathfinders

2 x 3 jetbikes

8 Striking Scorpions

6 Harlequins

2 Warwalkers with starcannon and shuricannon

2 Fire prisms with usual

I was guilty of forgetting the objective until the beginning of my turn 4 but luckily i was able to pull it out of the bag a bit and get a 1-0 win, Italian style. ie grab an objective then backs to the wall and hope there isn't too much extra time :)

2 games, a win and a draw. Not bad so far.

Another game tomorrow night against Imperial Guard and then 3 games on Saturday in a one day tournament so plenty of practice ahead!

Hey Ragnars Claw I am curious about your WGBL in TDA do you mind me asking what role he plays in your list? I noticed that all your squads are mech thus cannot accomodate him, does he play lone wolf and provide fire support?

The lists are now available for each country. Some fun ones in there and plenty of wolves!

I've got another 3 games under my belt, 2 wins against battlewagon orks and a monstrous creature nid army and a loss against a Guard army.

I have another game against Chaos tonight which should be good ;)

  • 4 weeks later...

Well the event has been and gone and a good time was had by all and we managed 10th out of 16 countries winning 2 games, drawing 2 and losing 2.

Overall we are happy with that and just 1 more point, so turning one of the draws into a win, would have put us level with France in 3rd.

Some photos from the weekend:

The 2 multi melta land speeders perform a double role, deep striking to restrict movement and also wrecking one of the other wagons.
