The GODS of WAR

Ok, so I'm going to give the whole diy/create your own army thing a go. Thus finishing my BT army collection where it is.

I've wanted to create an army based on norse mythology for some time but chickened out every time I bought models to do it with and ended up as BlackTemplars. So after enough research and much time spent looking for the right paints and paint scheme thats not black and had a rake around to see what I got spare in the way of SM's and tanks (turns out I got about 3000+pts in the cuboard collecting dust, so have decided to go for it.

Don't have a army painter knock up to show but as I get into it you'll evntualy see the scheme. Very norse/celtic so will have a fair amount of spaceWolves and darkAngel parts incoperated into it. Also plan to paint little symbols and personal makings and will be creating special charachters for each of the norse gods I decide to do.

So to start me off I decided to go big for the command tank and do a DogHouse rip off of his dogma riader, or as I like to call the design "bane-raider". Gave it a little more width than the others on the forum as felt for the money it was a little on the slim side(not to say DH and the other guys arent awesome, as they are). So heres what I got so far to bring the pain to the enemies of the Emperor.

Will have interchangeable weapons parts for the main part.

Weapons will include:

standard LRcrusader load out.

M-melta

assault cannons

Huricane bolters represented as just heavy bolters.

Have the metal LRC sponsons to might give it a go but might be difficult to glue the metal to plastic and have them stay fixed.

Changeable parts will be:

2-3 twinlinked lass cannon upgrades and as I got the shadowsword varient, will be useing the vulcan mega bolter where possible. That will be either in the assualt cannon front sponson or mounted on a turret ontop to give it a 360 arc.

Might try and use the flamers, but havent thought that far ahead yet

Anyways as most people will be bored by now, heres the pics. With any luck will be doing full interior as well. Will see how well I can get the top "h" section to fit to come on and off.

OOOOO I actually like the look of that. It is much more futury but still has most of the original there for recognition. Definitely has more of an assault feel to it and looks like it is AV14 all around!

Good job, can't wait to see how this turns out.

i have a question, say I wanted to make one, do I really need to extend/stretch any parts like you did or not?

Not at all Terminatorinhell, I have chosen to make it wider than the others on the B&C out of personal preference. I felt it was a bit thin when I had blue tacked up the main shell right in front of me, so beefed it up a bit.

Thanks all for comments so far. Not much to update at this point, just patching up those gaps left by the width extention. Slow progress as been out most of last 2 days and still gathering parts from my bitz tower for possible use. It turns out I don't have a lot of spacewolves and darkangels bits left over from other conversions. . Which means I have to go spend some more money on my addiction. SWEET :)

Litle update.

Got a really rough mock up of the paint scheme I have in mind, on a scrap model. The patterns will be (hopefully) a lot neater. The base colour I thought would be nice, to reflcet the hardened leather armour of ye old vikings with plain bare metal details(plate armour). At first I didnt like the colour and was gutted as it looked like mud, spent ages surfing wargaming stores online as kinda fed up with GW paints. However one black wash later and it looks pretty sweet. Will be highlighting where needed, but on models that will be part of the army rather than this one.

And came across this old dwarf head in my bits pile. I'm not 100% sold on it yet, so looking for feedback please on using it where it is, or at all.

I think using the head would be a good way to say its not space wolves, as I'm going to use a lot of SW parts so might get confusing. Let me know guys/gals.

Update time. Decided not to use the dwarf head on the front, thanks to another B&C member I ordered some fancy bits to go on the front.

Quick dry run of the hull with top almost fully fitted. Some parts still to be filled in.

And with out top, reason I mention this is that I've managed to get the 2 sections to lift and slide off of the main LR to expose the interior. So pretty damn happy with that.

Picture of the front view, just because it looks so damn mean.

Upgraded engine block.

http://i282.photobucket.com/albums/kk270/Eberious_2008/DSC03248.jpg

and filled in the gap with engine parts.

Weapons rack, more to be added on the inside soon. Also to the right little canteens filled with battle juice(AKA, ALE), yarrr

http://i282.photobucket.com/albums/kk270/Eberious_2008/DSC03249.jpg

And a throne seat.

http://i282.photobucket.com/albums/kk270/Eberious_2008/DSC03251.jpg

Its almost time to paint the inside, so not looking foward to that but must be done.

C&C welcome.

Sorry for the mass of pics

Was just wondering if anyone has used these parts from the chaos warriors set on space marines, and if they fitted pretty well or not?

I'm new to modeling in general (just about to try some AOBR terminator conversions in a few!), but I just wanted to say that you're doing an amazing job. I'm in love with this thing. Keep it goin!

Thanks son of horus. The gaps will probably be a mix of plastic card and greenstuff, Unless I can find some parts on the sprue that fit just right. Been trying to sorce plastic card locally but I think will have to be a ebay buy.

Nearly got the interior of the LR done. However I'm being held up as waiting on some parts to comeing, been almost two weeks..grrrr. So not rushing current stages.

Well, still waiting on those parts to come. So in the mean time other parts came an decided to try out the warhammer chaos cloak. It fits pretty damn good.

I know it screams space wolf, but once painted I hope it wont be so in my face. SOOOOoooo tempted to do a SW army instead but must keep my word to do this DIY army this time.

Knocked this guy together in about an hour, I think the greenstuffing came out pretty well concidering I've never done any fur sculpting before.

Ok, very close to completeing the inside now that those parts have arrived. Just have to add a few more trophies in the way of enemey helmets. The purple and grey scheme will be for the insides of tanks only, with the colour of the SM earlier in the thread for the outside.

Might hang a few chains along the side at the top, also some slain enemy helmets(mostly standard troops helms. Will have a chaos lords helmet in here but in a totaly geeky way, once I build Odin(chapter master) I will pit him in battle against the Chaos lord to see if he can earn the trophy.

I plan to add trophies of sorts to te outside hull as well, might be mostly orks as I'm planning on using that as a theme for these guys. But a few chaos ones might pop up here and there.

I like your paint scheme. I've been squinting at your test model for a good twenty minutes here, and it's finally gotten to me, I have to ask.

How did you paint the metallics on that guy? It took me this long to decide that it was a metallic-painted plastic marine, and not a polished-up metal marine with some details painted on. Your metals look fabulous.

Thanks AdeptusDavidus, its pretty stright foward really.

First paint chosen detail in boltgun metal, then apply a black wash to dull. Then highlight with mithril silver. You could as I have done a few times highlight on top of the mithril silver with a tiny bit of white, just to get that extra shiny look.

Ah, so really just a pretty conventional technique executed well.

It really does look fantastic, though, and I wasn't exaggerating at all when I said I debated a while over whether that marine was a polished metal or a painted plastic. ;)

@AdeptusDavidus, yeah pretty much. I didn't relise it was so good, so thanks very much :P

@Sons of Horus, not really. Was tired of painting black/white an matching insides for my templars. Wanted to reach out into useing colours. I thought the purple and grey works really well together and that the equipment and control pannel/screens work really stand out. I'll give you that it is a random/weird colour to paint it purple but wanted somthing different to what I usually see or do.
