The GODS of WAR

Thanks Asmodai The Interrogator, He's bigger than the calgar model, so yeah he's pretty huge.

ok, this isn't like me but my hand has been forced.

Brother Grius thanks for the comment on the model, however.

Keeping in mind guys this is not an exact replica of Odin or any other later named Norse gods, I did say "based on" Norse mythology. After all they didn't walk around in terminator/standard power armour either. :). Who says at this point he doesn't have one eye anyways. Have I said he has 2 eyes?, might just give him a bionic one. And once again I'm forced to say he also used a sword mmmkay guys(what's with the"he used a spear" like I didn't know). If you had bothered to read the posts before posting you would have seen that your question has been raised and answered already. :D

I suppose someone's going to point out he's not riding a horse either????.

Rant over, C&C on the models guys/gals not what I got right and wrong about the "MYTHOLOGY" of the Norse.

Cheers Brother Tuditanus.(seen your post after my rant)

Ok so with Odin finished and painted I decided to star work on my AOBR dread. All cut and trimmed ready for re-poseing.

Going to have him in the classic hero pose.

Odin looks great, but the sword really isn't right. It's true that he's shown holding a sword in some very modern manuscripts, but of the high gods the only one to carry a sword as his signifier was Tyr (and a god with a sword is generally identified as tyr simply by carrying it). Odin caries gungnir or his staff and i've never heard of a description or depiction of him with a sword (with the exception of Gram, which he did not wield). Doesn't diminish the model at all, but i'd love to see a viking-age artifact or poem attesting to his carrying a sword.

@Iron Phoenix, Once again, "based on" not exact replicas. But thanks for your comment on the model.

@Terminatorinhell, cheers.

Progress on the AOBR Dread,

After some re-poseing. Pics a bit dark, but something's going on in my modelling room tonight and the flash is making the pics really hard to define any detail.

and time for fancy details (decorations, orc skulls etc etc) but to late in the night to start that.

And some input please on, if I should use the banner or not. As really torn between the two.

Yeah, i'm less concerned with the fact that the model has a sword than I am with the fact that you say Odin carried one (it's just not true). Reinvention is the first step on the road to ignorance, and ultimately barbarism and chaos! you should have learned that from the eldar! ;).

I think you SHOULD make Sleipnir and either call it a bike or a jump pack :P. What's more important, him flying, or the added toughness?

Dreddy looks sick already just from the posing. You got a lot of mileage from that AOBR piece. For photography in low light, avoid a direct flash by placing the palm (not the fingers! of your hand in front of it, say about 3-4 inches, enough to block the model. this will force the light to wrap over and around the model resulting in a light-filled (but still pleasant and shaded) environment that is ideal for miniatures. All the photos i've taken here have been from my bedroom and use this imprecise but reliable method.

@Iron Phoenix, After my rant where I said about he's not on a horse, whilst lying in bed that same night I thought, actualy thats not a bad idea. Could make one of those 4 legged dreads you see and make a 2nd version of Odin riding that. But better yet a day ago I thouhgt, hang on I got a spare "master of the ravenwing jetbike" ...so yeah expect to see Odin mark2(not to replace the 1st one but to use for different games/missions). For instance fast attack or heavy on the fire power, certain terrian etc etc.

@Sons of Horus, cheers.

And yeah thanks all, the Dread was actualy fairly easy to convert, the leg went my way a treat so basicaly hassle free. I went with the banner and stuck on a few bits and bobs more pics tonight.

@Pantherrex, Hadn't thought that far ahead yet really. But can't find decent female heads(I could use eldar heads they are pretty girl like)or at least ever seen any decent ones. But could have them as a assualt bike squad rather than chargeing groundpounders. Having them with GK power halberds, obviously they would count as CC weapons and the sarge as a power weapon.

@twigggy. Nah, I don't really like the models. Will try and find some female heads and just use standard SM armour. And yea, thats a good idea hadn't thought of doing that, naming the dreadnoughts after giants in norse mythology. Cheers for that.

Anyways, update time. Finished the building of "unnamed" Dread.

Some great ideas you have there and well executed, each model you have done so far looks great; but kudo's on the dread. I have one on the way and you have inspired me to try something special :P

And Odin is a beast, but I don't know if anybody has mentioned but Odin actually carried a spear....lol just joking! Keep up the good work!

With the Dread done(unpainted) I have decided to crack on with my Odin Mk2 idea while still fresh in my mind. Only prob is that I'm gonna have to wait a while to get his torso section :tu:.

Test fits of a Terminator look good but will fit much better once fitted properly as will be cutting all joints to repose the legs. Have beefed up the Jetbike a little. Built up the lower back section and added extra thrusters. Underneath the the seat I got 2 JPack thrusters as a test to see if looks good (plan to add 2 tiny little ones near the front so 8 in total). Certainly beef's up the area as I intended to make a little bigger. Wings not attached at the moment but gonna wait till heavy moddeling is done before I add those.

As the Jetbike is meant to represent Sleipnir (his horse) I stuck on a horses head. I think it fits pretty well. Anyways, enough blab and more pic's

Greenstuffed the exhaust fan thingy, I'm pretty chuffed it came out so well on only the 3rd attempt of ever doing this kind of detail.

Looks a little bent here but doesn't in real life.

Update time,

Added the wings on and done some Gst work, also fitted a set of Terminator legs to sit nicely on the seat. Gst was just blending the machine parts as seemless as I could, but pic's here focus on the massive wolf pelt that I'm in the middle of sculpting. Also Gst the details on the front of the torso section of the terminator rather than buy the part again(would be like £4 for just the torso) so plan to fit him with a T-helmet(safety first). But couldn't get good pic's to display so will or should be much better once painted.

I have done some skin work where the wolfhair stops and the skin can be seen. But the battries died on me, so will have to wait till I get more.

C&C welcome.

Looking awesome! Can't wait to see some painted models. But shouldn't Odin have a sp_ ... HA HA! Just kidding! The sword looks great. I think it's more space marine-y than the spear. Keep up the good work.
