Is this OTT?

Basically yesterday I decided for Apocalypse that I didn't want to use Blackmane as the Lord of my Great Company. I'm still using him but in a "support role." I decided I would rather have my own lord with his own wargear, however I think I may have gone too far, no matter what he's being modelled with a frost blade and hammer (even if it just counts as a close combat weapon). So here's the loadout:

Updated Loadout

Frost Blade

Storm Shield

Runic Armour

Runic Charm

Wolf Tooth Necklace

Wolf Pelt

Frag Grenades

Meltabombs

And probably some other wargear as well, he'll be cruising in a LRC with 7 termies (with company banner) and a power armoured rune priest too. Is this too many points on one character without any special rules conferred? I know it's a lot of points for one unit but it's apocalypse!

He looks fairly decent to me with one exception.

Ditch either the FB ot the TH.

You can only use one anyway, so you're better off giving him either a Storm Shield for that tasty 3++ or a gun of some sort to soften up a target.

I'd recommend a combi-melta/FrostBlade xcombo since you're 83.3% likely to hit what you're aiming for and likely to penetrate even a landraider...

And then assaulty time with I5 is nice. Verrah Nice...

Just my £0.02

Cheers, Yeah I guess paying 50 points for a set of weapons where I have to make the choice each turn what to use is stupid. Do you reckon it would be alright still modelling a hammer and putting a shield somewhere on him, so the hammer is purely decorational, maybe on his back? I was thinking of a storm shield. Now what would look better, a hammer or shield on the back? And meltabombs

Yeah I forgot to drop the belt of Russ. I know to do that I was just looking for input. I'll probably use the combat shield from the command squad box to represent a storm shield. I think the hammer on the back would look cool, just need to model a handle for it.

Yeah, plus he brings that "bad mofo" aura to the table, where he tends to just cleave through his foes and not die in return. Any time I've ever fielded ragnar AS ragnar, he has just annihilated everything. And as Val said, there's nothing wrong with at least 4 attacks on the charge from your termies (5 with twin LC's).

Just remember, NOTHING is over the top in Apoc. It's a no holds barred slugfest. Bring it all, make it nasty (one time I flank marched all twenty of my WGBG as terminators to charge 3 different units off an objective for a win :D ). IMO, the more ridiculous the units, the more fun they are in the game, as the point of Apoc is to kill things in droves and cause lots of giant explosions all over the board. I think that's the reason that SW's own so well in Apoc, in that a fully upgraded unit of GH's, while expensive, is a damn hard unit for just a "tac squad".

I was thinking thunder hammer/frost blade would be awesome but I don't know if I can justify 50 points when I can only use 30 of those points per turn. Then again against things like fexes or dreads it would be better than meltabombs. I'll have a think about it.
