New Wolf Brother, Seeking Elder Aid

Recommended Posts

Greetings Wolfbrothers. I've recently started playing Warhammer 40k, and when i got threw reading alot of fluff, i found the Space Wolf Omnibus, and read threw it, the very moment i finished the great literature i knew what my army would be. None other then the wolves themselves.

I have been playing very little, possibly over the last four months or so, and so far i feel im doing allright, but i will always Welcome elder's words of wisdom. For i have a 'ardboys competition coming up, and i must prepair my forces. So far i have only played 1000, or 1500 point battles, and we had a 1250 point tournament a week ago, I placed Second, and kill for kill, was one off from being the champion.

So i guess my point would be what would be wise decisions on how to employ my forces, and wise upgrades to add to my army in the future. i will list what i actually have in actual models

Logan Grimnar, Rune Priest, Wolf Lord, Iron Priest

10 Greyhunters, 10 Bloodclaws, two groups of 5 long Fangs (i can have 3 Plasma cannons, 3 lascannons, 3 heavy bolters, 1 missle launcher, and 2 multimelta's technically any way i wish to play the fangs) i have 13 Wolf Gaurd terminators, 3 loaded with assault cannons, one with a cyclone missle launcher, the rest with power fists / stormbolters. 1 wolf gaurd in normal power armour with a chain sword and bolter, I have a predator tank (which i have modified to equip any of its variations) as well as i have a Landraider Crusader/redeemer in which can again be loaded out any which way i choose, two Fenerian wolves. 2 Dreadnaughts loaded out with their close combat weapons, and stormbolters, the other arm being multi-melta's. I have A Ven.Dreadnought which i generally loadout with an Assualt Cannon, but can change it out for all its weapon variants on each arm, except i cannot do two close combat weapons as of yet. 1 Drop pod, a rhino transport, and a Thunderfire cannon. Though i am unsure if that is something that can even be fitted into my army list. I also have some units that are not Fully assembled with their wargear and ready to join the fight, 12 other Space Wolves (have yet to decide upon greyhunter or blood claws. but probably Grey Hunters) 10 Space wolf Scouts, with the choice of Snipers, Heavy Bolter, missle Launcher, Close combat weapons, and bolters or Bolt pistols not sure which way to go with them, or if im going to utilize yet.

Now i generally go with a general setup when i play, ill list my two army set ups, my 1250 tournament set up, and my 1500 list army.

Thats pretty much what i run, For the 2500 battle, im thinking of adding all my wolfgaurd and the Drop pod/land raider, and some Wolf Gaurd Battle leader as the other HQ and upgrade the crap out of my Leaders, as well as fully max my troops, and of course, add the other long fang pack, and perhaps some other ideas...

Any Critiques?

First thing I would recomend is you need to co-ordinate your LF's better. With the set-up you have got it is not dedicated for a specific task. Try making it either anti armor or anti troop. I run 2-ML & 2-LC for anti armor, thats four 48" range AA weapons. I can also use the ML's for anti troop. If you want anti troop try HB's & ML's.

Something I have just recently tried and is working out great is to put a Rune Preist in a Landraider with a pack of Bloodclaws. People hate a landraider filled with Bloodclaws running around with a 5+ cover save.

welcome young pup, come sit with us at the fire place and tell us about some of your battles=)

about the list

it looks decent, but i sugest you give the grey hunters a meltagun too, aswell as a rhino

i suggest you make the fangs a bit cheaper, and 2*2 types, i would advise against multimeltas

do a quick searchy,to see how others use them

droppoding would be a great thing too because those multimelta dreads only have a 24" range and would allos you to use your wolf guard terminators too

oh, against eldar vehicles might work not that good because of the bright lances they can field

Welcome to the Fang!

As others have said your Long Fangs need some help. At the very least drop the Multi-Melta and take a second weapon of one the others in the Pack. Personally I'd take a second Lascannon if it were me and these were the only minis I had. Then you can split fire both anti-tanks and anti-personnel.

The Blood Claws need a Flamer and the Hunters need a special weapon of some sort.

For the Rune Priest I'd drop the Rune weapon to a Frost Blade, switch out the Wolf tooth necklace for a runic charm, I'd also drop the Chooser and take a Belt of Russ for an invulnerable save.

Ah yes, well, i just recently had the new fangs join my army, so im thinking for fighting the Xeno swarms of orks and Tyranids, ill use the Long Fang Set up of Plasma cannon, Plasma Cannon, Heavy Bolter ,Heavy bolter. And if im going for anti Armour ill do LC, LC, Missle, missle.

As for The Hunters, i could possibly upgrade to a melta on them, but is the range not the best?

In the Future set up, i plan to utilize quite a few WG, but i have yet to build the list, ill see to what my Packs are going to settle into, and see, i do plan to take two groups of long Fangs to that battle, one set for anti armour, and one for anti troop.

Would it be wise to see if i can not requisition more then one Drop pod? i was thinking perhaps two or three would make my Claws a bit more fearsome in combat.

And what if i switched my Rune priest from a rune weapon, to a Rune staff, and i still rather like chooser of the slain, it has kept my Foes from even trying to infiltrate my group, and it can give my rune priest a second attack, though im not sure if it would work in conjunction with his Rune staff.

I did change my list when i was ramped up to a 1500 point fight, it did not end the best for me....but i did not give the foe the satisfaction of hurting me unscathed, the entire fight was brutal, as they should be. But here is what i was Running

It was the first time i did not take the experience of the long fangs, and i felt their absence. but also im slightly new, so im unsure of a few things perhaps you elders can tell me

Can We wolves field the thunderfire cannon?

And since their is no battlegear listed from the "Start" of the characters like the Rune priest, or Wolfgaurd, i have to use points to equipt them correct? But does the terminator armour upgrade automatically give the Wolfgaurd Power fists and storm bolters? or do those still need to be purchased?
