Cataclysts

"Look around you! We must tear down the rusty and ancient cage that we have built

for ourselves and replace it with a shining tower that can once more touch the stars.

Without evolution, we are shorn of our greatest strength."

—Inquisitor Laschia at the Oulan Symposium

Hi folks. Its been a while since I showed any painting around her (5 years or so?) so I should change that. On my return to the Marines after 5th I started a new DIY Chapter called the Cataclysts. Here is the first evidence of my work thus far. They are lacking proper landscape (suggestions?) and I plan on using some decals for insignia. Im also now noticing a few places to fix here and there but they are mostly done.

The theme is oily and greasy... what a chapter that scrounges around hives and forges and has been on an extended campaign might look like. Lots of smoke and smudges but not so much on the mud and dirt.

C&C welcome.

(This is just about one of my favorite miniatures ever made.)

Cheers.

I remember these guys, I liked your ideas for the background. Very nice models. The orange lens of the scope on the Sergeant's bolt pistol is particularly well painted. As for the bases you could try some cracked desert landscape, or even a cityscape. I think just about anything could work with these guys, considering the earthy tone of their color scheme. What's next after this unit?

I think they look ace! Mean, gritty and ruthless, and i read your fluff after i saw the minis! You've got an excellent chapter coming together there. I'd love to know how you did the chains on the marine holding the mace. Is it GS or real chain? I've had trouble finding chain that fine to use on my mini's.

Thanks for the comments. I agree after looking at the photos I should add some more boltgun to the vents on the backpack. The black is intentionally minimal... highlighted with a dark grey and washed in badab black just to keep away from the over grey (or even blue) black that you often see.

The chain is actually part of that old vet sarge that GW produced a few years ago. Not my doing!

Ive got quite a bit painted but nothing 100% finished. I like to do the bases all in one go for consistency but Im not sure how much more Ill get done since Ill be teaching again next week. Anyway, here's some more...

The ONLY scouts, IMHO, are the Jes Goodwin scouts.

I think you can see the black is highlighted but I wanted to keep it dark too.

What do you guys think of the green bolter casings? I wasn't sure about it when I did it but I think it adds some color to the oily brown thing.
