medusa_ritchie
Techmarines from the Crimson Fists chapter were tasked with creating a new pattern of combi plasma that could be produced from existing materials whilst on extended campaign in the Medusa sector in order to provide additional firepower for the chapter's sternguard veterans. Combining elements of existing bolter and plasma weapon technology the techmarines came up with the 'Medusa' pattern, named after the sector where they were on campaign. Early versions of the weapons often included casings from flamer weapons but these were replaced in later marks by bolters, which were more readily available. OK on to the pictures :P I wanted some easy to make combi plasmas that could be made from the bits i had lying around. This happened to be bolters and plasma pistols. Although the original attempt was done using a flamer body with a bolter magazine from an old style bolter added. So you start off with this: http://img2.pict.com/54/ec/07/969502/0/300/imgp2006.jpg You then cut away the bolter muzzle and the top part of the casing leaving the hand grip section. Be careful when you are cutting as you'll need to pretty precise. Also the hand grip section will probably be deformed after you've cut but it can be bent back straight after. You will need to cut away the hand (if one is attached) and the fuel cell part on the bottom of the plasma pistol. You will also need to cut away the bit behind the plasma 'coils' to leave a flat surface. That will leave you with: http://img2.pict.com/dc/a4/67/969510/0/300/imgp2007.jpg Then just glue them together :P http://img2.pict.com/d8/f4/65/969512/0/300/imgp2003.jpg http://img2.pict.com/64/c1/61/969513/0/300/imgp2004.jpg And give them to your guys.! :P http://img2.pict.com/21/b3/ed/969509/0/300/imgp2005a.jpg They just need a bit of green stuff for some of the gap filling to finish them off but they are pretty straight forward to do. I was going to add the muzzle from the bolter back on to the end of the plasma gun but it was too big for the space that was left so i just used a piece of green stuff that had been rolled out. Simple and hopefully effective. :) Medusa Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/172024-medusa-pattern-combi-plasma/ Share on other sites
sonofwaranddeath
Wow thats great! I like the boltgun one! Not that crazy bout the flamer one though IMHO. None the less good stuff man ;) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/172024-medusa-pattern-combi-plasma/#findComment-2033171 Share on other sites
medusa_ritchie
Thanks. The flamer version looks a bit 'clunky' but it was just an experiment to see how the thing would look when it was put together. I'm happier with the bolter version, which definitely looks a lot more streamlined. Maligoare
Nice, and a very unusual take on a combi-plasma. My only problem is that the bolts seem to fire straight through the plasma coils, but I might give this pattern a go myself, just as soon as I can find that plasma pistol I left lying around... Thanks, yeah the bolter version wasn't finished as i didn't have anything handy to make a second muzzle with. It should go below the existing one from the plasma pistol. I imagined the bolter section to be slung underneath with the plasma sitting on top. Unlike the official combi plasma which has the bolter sat on top of the plasma! Gets Hot anyone? Captain Mike
I think this would be good simply as a plamsa gun, if you cut off the magazine. Besides, shooting a bolt through the plasma coils would make it more devastating. Or shoot the plasma gun off the end. Perhaps they remove the plasma coil when they want to fire the bolter? Kurasuke
Yeah, I was thinking that it looks more like a straight plasma gun than a combi-plasma. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/172024-medusa-pattern-combi-plasma/#findComment-2033865 Share on other sites
Lord Exedore
I would give it a try today and see if I could put the Bolter "end" on the tiny PP pin underneath the main muzzle. After that, either use a knife or some tiny sparks of GS to close the plasma exhausts...it coud work. Brother Chaplain Darius
Don't mess with the exhausts. If you feel like you MUST, use the under slung barrel idea. I would just leave it as it is, it's easily explained that the weapon fires normally when triggered in its primary fire. When used as a plasma gun, the breach is closed, and the energy bolt is formed and fired in the coils as normal. Given the fact that the coils start further forward than the breach and ejection port, it makes plenty of sense. medusa_ritchie
I've managed to find some plastic rod that is the right diameter for a second muzzle. I'll be adding that and green stuffing up some of the gaps so i'll hopefully get some pictures of the finished items posted at some point. I probably will try green stuffing over part of the exhaust to make it more obvious which bit is plasma and which is bolter. Thanks for the feedback.
