Espada Azul
They're both called the laughing god. I had assumed they were one and the same. Just splitting hairs here, but the Deceiver is called the Jackal God by the Eldar, while Cegorach, the God of the Harlequins, is the Laughing God. Both are tricksters in the same mold, and may actually serve as Trickster-archetypes for their respective sides (C'Tan vs. Old Ones), but it's important to remember that one is a Warp Entity, and the other isn't. Also, I do believe the hanging thread in Mechanicum was alluded to in part in Titanicus. Specifically, a book hinted to be a copy of the Book of the Dragon splits the Mechanius along theological lines... Violently. Aye, but wasn't that book proof that the Emperor and the Machine God weren't the same? Espada Azul
Some of the magi who read it are convinced that it reveals the deception perpetrated by the Emperor, I think. The plan was fairly convoluted after all. Elenaria
Obviously, spoiler alert to those who haven't read it. But if you haven't read it, how could you answer the question in which case, why are you here? Hmmm... So, not a bad story, not great. It finishes on this dark and sinister note, but I don't know what it's foreshadowing. Can someone more steeped in 40k lore clear this up for me? Just a refresher, the big ominous Dragon book goes missing after Dalia/Rho Mu return to be Dragon Guardians and it says 'Ten thousand years would pass before the next Guardian was drawn to the Noctis Labyrinthus, but by then the damage had been done.' So a great big ? Titanicus. Enough said. BrotherMoses
they are pawns of an ancient evil easily on par with Cthulhu... Great, now I shall think of the C'tan as big metal Cthulu's. Not getting that image out of my head for a while... <_< Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/172287-mechanicum-novel-question/page/2/#findComment-2297432 Share on other sites

Really? Why not just put the remains on a one way cruse to the eye of terror? Its not going to wake up there, or if it did, its screwed. Cherub
I really hate getting into these discussions but its late and I cant sleep. If you have noticed in the last couple of years black libary has been writing really good books full of awesome fluff, and the codexs that come out after all link back to the books. And if you have noticed in alot of the books when they talk about Ad Mech they mention that for the loyalists there are 2 groups, followers of the Cult of the Dragon, and everybody else. The Cult of the Dragon does stupid stuff like walking into a necron tomb (ciaphis cain books) and trying to worship necrons to trying to restart necron tombs to learn more about the machine(cant remember the book reference right now) The rest of the Ad Mech are eaither ignorant or trying to stop this madness. MOST of the references I have read over the years refer to the cult of the dragon as members needing to be a certian rank to join, though there are other references to new Ad Mech being members. There is also several references spread about with really high ranking members doing things like putting promethium plants directly on top of necron tombs to athurizing missions to worlds that are competly devoid of all life to "look for stc templates" even though they have sent other missions there that have totally vanished. Actions like this is why members of the Inq are so suspions of the Ad Mech and are trying so hard to break binary. Now on a more pratical side, with Mr. Dan Abnett writing more and more for Black Libary we will see more of this in the books he puts out, and continued with other writers. With how well Mr.Abnett's books have been recived over the years, he has been given almost total free rein to rewrite the old fluff to fit in the new image that they have for 40k. I personally think this is a great idea as it gives us much much more to talk about on forums(and more entertaining for me to read on late nights). Its almost like all the writers for black libary have meetings to discuss what interesting and sneaky plot lines they can hide in their stories, or maybe its just one man...one man incharge of fluff for GW. Eaither way i hope they keep it up, it makes for much more interesting links between books and authors. PS. The laughing god and the deciver are one and the same. He never went to sleep like the other C'tan he hide in the webway. Check it out in the Eldar fluff :P They created Khorne, Nurgle and Tzee in the war of heavens and thats what started the degradation of the warp from a calm sea to the viloente storm it is today. PPS. The deciver was also responsible for the creation of the praiahs in human socitiy. And the creation of a certain assision temple that oddly enough uses weapons made from the same metal as the decivers (for lack of a better word) "body" I am greatly sorry for the spelling, its hard to type one handed with a screaming child in the other. S. Bloodhowl
Can I make a few points: 1-though their servants may be robotic, the C'tan are Star Gods and are 'organic', stop referring to them as machines, 2-I also have been told that the 'nids are the servants of the Outsider; necrons eat the galaxy, bids appear from outside our galaxy and attempt to eat our galaxy, coincidence? 3-As far as I'm aware it is the Deciever who is the Eldar Laughing God, but he did not help us evolve directly, the C'tan as a whole did as the were feared by the Old Ones who then decided to speed up the evolution of their children races and give them access to the warp for power and (mind) weapons (and also cause the C'tan cannot survive contact with the warp) 4-YES. EMPEROR FOUGHT VOID DRAGON'S ROAMING ESSENCE AND BANISHED HIM TO MARS FOR HIS OWN ENDS MANY MANY YEARS AGO, or so I've interpreted/been told 5-instead of debating with ourselves (fun and enlightening though it may be) maybe we should look here: http://www.graham-mcneill.com/ , or ask him at some convention,e.g. Games Day. ::EDIT:: spelling :D Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/172287-mechanicum-novel-question/page/2/#findComment-2382358 Share on other sites
