Warhorse47
Okay I've got 2 LF packs already, one with 3 lasers and a ML and the other with 4 ML. I've got 2 ML and a HB for the 3rd. What should I use for the 4th spot I'm leaning towards a Melta or another HB. Suggestions and what's worked for you? Thanks Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/172307-rounding-out-a-long-fang-pack/ Share on other sites
Wulfen00
I use 3 a times, 2 in most games that aren't apoc. I have 3LC 5ML and 4HB, I like having the HB team farther up and in the middle for support vs infrantry and the LC/ ML at the sides to cover more area. For You I say HB it will be better agaist infrantry and with all the LC and ML you have enough against armour and monsters/ Daemons. OnlyInDeath
My favorite setup has always been and always will be (even though with the new scatter on templates, it's not AS effective) 4x plasmacannons. In 4th it was just insane. For every "hit", multiply the number of models under the template by 1 more. If all 4 hit, I was able to sometimes dish out 20 plasmacannon hits to a 10 man tactical squad. In 5th, it's still mighty effective, just target those nicely bunched up troops :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/172307-rounding-out-a-long-fang-pack/#findComment-2036215 Share on other sites
spacewolflars
Plasma cannons are pretty cool. For the set-up that you have going though another heavy bolter would work better. Glad to see someone using the old fellas. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/172307-rounding-out-a-long-fang-pack/#findComment-2036232 Share on other sites
Hotspur
I have to agree with OID, the 4x plasma cannon setup is pretty wicked. Right now, I am fielding two packs of Fangs, and they're both set up w/ 2xHB and 2xPC; they can dish out some serious damage. However, I'm considering throwing in some LCs to add some real AT capability; I would, more than likely, replace the PCs in both squads, so their points costs would remain the same. The 'fire control' rule comes in handy, but you'll find out from others in the forum, and from your own battle experiences, that the pack leader is usually the first one to go b/c you don't want to lose your big guns. Lose him, lose your 'fire control'... :pinch: Just make sure you put them in some good cover. The fangs are awesome, though. Glad to see another keeping their legacy intact! The Voice
Our Long fang pack is 2 Heavy Bolters and two Lascannons. its a set up i really like as i can split fire at two different threat natures, Heavy Bolters are in my opinion one of the best weapons in the game - their cheap and the 3 shots means you can really hurt hoards and light vehicals. they also dont look very threatening!! many opponents tend to over look them in the first turn as a target (im a treadhead so tends to be a lot of armour threat for them to contend with). The 2 Lascannon are the best man portable Anti armour weapons in the game and i dont concider it a waste if i have to split fire the lascannons and forfit the heavy bolters as anythreat requiring that kind of response will generally reap enough points in game to outweigh this. 4 Missle launchers is a reasonable AP/AT balance on the face of it, but in the new rules Armour is awesome - glancing hits dont mean you need to pray to Loki that your opponent only prevents you shooting next turn! id gladly forfit my AP ability for more chance to kill that bloody monolith or leman russ with its demolisher cannon! Plasma cannons are evil. But in my opinion they are too expensive for their lack of AT capability - it would suck if id payed 248pts (dont qoute me im a long way from my blessed codex - or society for that matter) and a leman russ casually beasted my oldest most admired battle brothers. However i just kindda think people are like me and want to field TANKS!!! taking a razorback with lascannon can counterbalance this. Long Fangs are possibly the best heavy support choice in the game, and i hope they dont change much in the new codex. What ever way you go know that nothing your opponent can field is as cool as them! ; ) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/172307-rounding-out-a-long-fang-pack/#findComment-2036265 Share on other sites

Thats a low end squad, Id go with either another HB or a ML to round it out... a plasma cannon is expensive, but it might be worth it- but thatll almost double the weapon cost of the squad. Coverfire
I use 13th Company more often than I use my regular Space Wolves. When fielding Long Fangs I need the think about what would best suit my list. I will either use a single squad with sgt with x4 Meltaguns and gate them in, or two packs one for long range vs vehicles sgt x2 lascannons, x2 missle launchers and one vs infantry a sgt x2 plasma cannons, x2 heavybolters. Bran Scalphunter
I run Long Fang Packs in the following combinations (all 5 man packs): 4 Missile Launchers 2 Missile Launchers, 2 Plasma Cannons 2 Missile Launchers, 2 Heavy Bolters 2 Plasma Cannons, 2 Heavy Bolters I prefer combo's 1 and 2 over the others for versatility but if I need wholesale infantry slaughter, I'll take 3 or 4. Megalodon
I'm still running the Classic 2nd ed Long Fangs load out; 2 Missile Launchers, 1 HB and 1 LC. I have never been disappointed with this Pack. Wolf Lord Duregar
Take my advice with a pinch of salt since I haven´t played a game since 4th Ed... But I´ve always loved to have four heavy bolters if I have the AT-capability already covered by other Packs. It´s just brutal to roll twelve S 5, Ap 4 dice. :) And they´re fairly cheap as well as looking really cool - four old, gnarled vets carrying the equivalent to 30mm Apache-guns.. :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/172307-rounding-out-a-long-fang-pack/#findComment-2043492 Share on other sites
Wolf Guard Nostromo
I mainly use 2 missile launchers and 2 heavy bolters which has served me well against horde armies for obvious reasons. I must admit I only really use them in apocalypse as they get targeted so heavily in smaller games. My favourite Long Fang weapon is undoubtedly the plasma cannon, but I rarely seem to have the points to field any number of them :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/172307-rounding-out-a-long-fang-pack/#findComment-2043877 Share on other sites
