Doghouse
Basically I'm building a pre-heresy army force but as I'm using the Colonel Straken rules to proxy a marine commander I want to include more astartes and have decided on getting around the rules by including Grey Knights as allies. Now as we all know Grey Knights weren't around at the time so I need to come up with a proxy or counts as unit. This has got me thinking and I've got two different routes I can take. Firstly there is the obvious custodes option mainly because of the stormbolter and nemesis could be combined to create the custodes staff weapons quite easily. Now the main problem is that they are quite ornate and so will take ages to sculpt individually which is my intention as they are going to be Actual Scale rather than regular scale. Wiplash came up with the idea of them being in disguise and that got me thinking about Blood Games and Legion. So I could make these guys look like the specialists in the begining of Legion which would save me loads of time. It's uinlikely that they'd leave the Emperor's side but I could get around that by saying that they are on a secret mission to aid the Emperor in his great work that he returned to Terra to concetrate on. Secondly there is the Legion Astartes route. I could include a recon force like the Ultramarines seen the the collected visions books with the big comms packs and iron man style masks. These could be assigned from another Legion or be on a mission that happens to be working towards the same goal as my army. Which do you think would be the better idea and which is more plausible? Any thoughts appreciated. ^_^ Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/172688-grey-knight-proxies-in-pre-heresy-army/ Share on other sites
Raven Angel
I hope this isn't for the same army you are doing up the SW for. If it is my idea might not work so well. While no fluff actuall comes out and says it I have alwasy though the preHH Thousand sons would be alot like the GK and could be played with their rules. They are both forces that are highly psykic and would requier allot of special war gear to make best use of their powers. Doghouse
Yeah it is for that army mate and funnily enough Thousand Sons would work fine actually. I'm still trying to locate my demon hunters codex so not sure if the power armoured guys get to take powers but even if it's an option I probably wouldn't uses psyker powers anyway. As my army is set towards the end of the great crusade any benefits that my opponent would gain like minor demons would be perfectly acceptable as well in terms of fluff as chaos is just beginning to make it's move. Raven Angel
There are a couple of things like the shroud and holocost powers that are chapter wide. The rest I think is for Grand masters and Inquisitors only. But cosidering the stated smaller size and special nature of the Legion's combat tactics it always bring's GK rules to my mind. jeffersonian000
GKT's are good model to approximate Custodes; i.e., 2+ armour save, 5+ invul, twin-bolter, polearm power weapon, strong willed, shinning armour, etc. SJ Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/172688-grey-knight-proxies-in-pre-heresy-army/#findComment-2041096 Share on other sites
