Welcome to the first chaos propaganda ministry tournament

This tournament will help determine who shall be the Chaos Propaganda Ministry’s chosen champion and also gain a complementary battlefleet complete with nurgling kitchen staff.

I am your host, the Propaganda Minister Renik and along side me is the one and only, the great one, High Propaganda Minister yogi.

Yogi- It’s a pleasure to be here Renik. We are here at the new purpose built stadium, just finished by our friends at the Iron Warriors twenty third company. If it’s not Iron Warrior made then it isn’t worth being made.

Renik- Now, onto the rules. Each round the fighters will go 1 on 1 with a pre determined opponent, victor goes onto the next round, loser goes off to be the half time snack courtesy of Kharns fried human.

Characters selected to fight will be asked to submit instructions and to indicate what they would like to say before the battle, and the refereeing mod will dice the battle and writes the narrative battle report as a part of the continuing story of the fight for Nestir. The battles will be brutal, and decisive, with the winner progressing to the next round and the loser of the battle eliminated - the character and the army they lead is dead or effectively destroyed as a fighting force It is not called the Arena of Death for nothing.

When one side is wiped out the ultimate winner is determined by pitting former allies against one another to find the Last Man Standing. For the exact narrative form this will take you will have to wait and see...

Veterans of previous AoD's will recognize the format, but there are a number of refinements and twists to make things interesting and to keep you on your toes. Just watch out for the Death or Glory matchups.

What is required?

To submit a character simply post these three things in this submission thread

1. The game description of your character (eg. name, codex used and weapons)

2. A WYSIWYG digital image painted to at least tabletop quality

3. At least 100 words of character background.

1. The game description of their character

The game character represents the leader of a larger force, be it a veteran of a detachment of marines, an Inquisitor leading his retinue, a sergeant of a Legio Kill-Team or a warlord of a traitor legion warband. The available characters and further details on selecting a legal AoD character are to be found in the Character Rules section below.

2. A WYSIWYG digital image painted to at least tabletop quality

You need to post a photograph of your character that reasonably represents it along with its weapons and wargear (WYSIWYG). You don't have to paint a new miniature from scratch for the competition if you already have one sitting in your collection that fits the requirements. Note that Legio and renegade Astartes characters may be shown in their previous Chapter colours. The main thing to remember is that while this is not a painting and conversion competition, if there are more submissions than places. The more care, originality and creativity the submission has the better its chances.

Digital images can be hosted at B&C's own gallery or another hosting site like Photobucket or Pbase. The normal board and PC&A rules for posting images apply when you submit the image.

3. At least 100 words of character background

Their name, history, who they lead and how they came to be here. The Arena of Death is as much a narrative as a dice-rolling exercise, and the more back-story you can give us the more compelling your heroes fights will become and the more enjoyable it will be for everyone. As always, the more effort you put into creating a compelling character, the better your chances of selection.

There is a 130 points allocation to buy the character and all weapons, wargear etc.

Some items are just too unbalancing or too obvious choices in the AoD setting, so some items are banned completely, while others are restricted so that characters may only choose one item from the list. There are also some special extra toys, changes and additions available.

- Parry veteran skill (7 pts): A character may force an enemy character to re-roll the highest Close Combat To Hit roll. Parry may not be used with ranged weapons or clumsy strike last Initiative 1 weapons such as power fists or thunder hammers. Characters with Mark of Khorne may not take this ability.

- Chosen By Fate special rule: Costs 20pts; When the character is instantly killed by any method (Force weapon / Instakill from a hit of strength twice (or more) their toughness) they roll a D6. On 4+ they instead suffer one wound. Note: This will still kill them if they only have one wound left.

- Deathwatch Bolter Ammunition : Legio characters may take the special bolter ammunition available to the Deathwatch at the cost listed in the Chapter Approved article.

- Veteran Skills: Characters with access to the Codex: Space Marines armoury may purchase either the True Grit for 3 pts or the Furious Charge for 15 pts.

Other notes:- Psychic powers and sorcery has been restricted to Chaos Sorcerers and Inquisitors so that only two characters on each side can use these powers.

- In a departure from previous AoD's things to boost speed such as jump packs, wings and bikes are allowed. Note: The enhanced speed allowed by these items can only be used to get closer to the opponent, not to run away!

Chaos Characters

Chaos Space Marine Lieutenant leading a Traitor Legion Warband.

From every Legion they come, warbands led by hungry, ambitious warlords eager to make a name for themselves written in blood. Eager to carve out personal empires away from their overbearing superiors. Nestir has seen them re-supplied and ready, but even with their common enemy approaching, dissent lurks, ready for a chance to strike...

Ruleset: Legal weapons, wargear, marks etc. may be chosen from the Chaos Lord section of Codex: Chaos Space Marines

The Marks of Slaanesh, Khorne, Nurgle and Tzeentch may only be used twice each in the whole of the Chaos side, so they will be competing with marked Renegade Chapter characters below.

Corrupted Space Marine Captain leading a Company from a Renegade Chapter.

Astartes that have fallen from the Light of the Emperor. Marines with nowhere else to run. The opportunity Nestir offers to them is too good to pass up.

Ruleset: Either a Chaos Sorcerer from Codex: Chaos Space Marines or a ’Captain’ from Codex: Space Marines. Legal weapons, wargear, marks, etc. may be chosen from the appropriate Codex. (Please note that the Sorcerers standard Force Weapon shall be replaced by a power weapon to follow with the rules of this competition)

The Marks of Slaanesh, Khorne, Nurgle and Tzeentch may only be used twice each in the whole of the Chaos side, so they will be competing with marked Traitor Legion characters above. Also only two sorcerers will be allowed into this contest

BATTLE RULES

Each battle will be conducted as follows:

0. STARTING DISTANCE (3D6+12).

1. INITIATIVE CHECK Roll 1D6 for each character each phase.

The model that beats its Initiative score by more (rolls lower than its Initiative) wins the Initiative.

If both models roll lower than their Initiative by the same amount, the model with the lower Initiative wins the Initiative.

If both models have the same Initiative, Initiative check is considered a draw.

If both models roll higher than their Initiative, Initiative check is considered a draw.

Models that roll higher than their Initiative are considered to have failed Initiative.

2. MOVEMENT

Models that pass Initiative may move up to either 6 inches forward (unless they have steeds, bikes, jump packs etc) or 2 inches back.

Models that fail Initiative may not move.

3. SHOOTING

Any model with a ranged attack may shoot.

The model that wins the Initiative shoots first.

Both models shoot simultaneously if the Initiative check was a draw.

4. CHARGING

If the models are within +++ their charge range (normally 6 inches)+++, models that passed Initiative may charge.

Both models may benefit from the bonus attack for charging if both charge.

Models that moved backward during the Movement phase may not charge.

The normal restrictions for shooting apply.

5. ASSAULT Follow the normal rules for Assault.

Keep the new Parry veteran skill in mind. Models with the Parry ability may force the enemy model to re-roll the highest To Hit dice (after all other re-rolls are made). The results of the re-rolled dice must be used (even if they are better, important for certain weapons).

If a model loses an assault and falls back, it performs a jump back (see below) instead.

6. JUMPING BACK OUT OF ASSAULT

Models may jump back out of assault by choice (the player submits a special instruction to that effect) or involuntarily (the model falls back after losing an assault).

Models that jump back move 2 inches out of combat.

The opposing model may make 1 free attack at normal Strength if it passes an Initiative check. The attack does not have any special effects it may be Saved against as normal.

A model may make only 1 jump back move in a turn.
