Sköll Khan
Codex SW says that you can take units from Codex: SW and SM when creating your army? ...but those that replace units in Codex: SM, can only be taken not the nilla version, ...but no where in the codex does it state which units replace the standard units I know most people just know/assume... Tactical = GH, Assault = BC, etc How far do people use this rule? Anyone field any: Masters of such-n-such, Stern-guards, Tyranic War Veterans, Vanguard Veterans,Special Characters etc? any one push this rule? taking assault marines or veterans, etc Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/172757-space-marines-and-space-wolves/ Share on other sites
Marek Grimfang
Well our codex states in the bottom of the pages that say for Elites Dreads are chosen from C:SM, Preds for Heavy Support, etc, so basically anything and everything we can takes or choose from C:SM is written there. Mind you the FAQ that leveled everyting for us allows us to choose more units such as the Thunder Fireand we are no longer restricted to what kind of Land Raider to be taken, as for evryone in that respect. Anyone field any: Masters of such-n-such, Stern-guards, Tyranic War Veterans, Vanguard Veterans,Special Characters etc? This I think is really pushing it unless you take a complete stand alone list using the FOC for 'nilla marines. Wolf Guard, depedning on how you kit them in Power Armour fulfill the roll of Vanguard w/o Jump Packs and Sternguard, and Tyranic War Veterans just because of how they can be specialised. Mid you with the next codec SW, that may change. Yeti
The only units to which you have access are those that are mentionned in the Codex: Space Wolves. In most cases, you don't have the complete description in the SW codex and you are referred to the Marine codex instead, but the original mention is still on the Space Wolf Codex. The only, minor, exception to this comes with the 5th ed FAQ, which allows you to take variants of the units that aren't mentionned in the Space Wolf Codex, because they didn't exist at the time of printing. Even then, it's only the variants mentionned in the FAQ. Long story short ... no Master of this and that, no stern/vanguard, no legion of the damned etc ... If it's not specifically mentionned in the SW codex, we don't get to field it. Vassakov
Only vehicles (with the exception of the Ven Dread) are taken from C:SM, are these are clearly defined by the current C:SW and the FAQ on the GW website. Whilst GH are our "equivilant" Tactical Marines, they are only really the same from a ranking perspective. Armament and tactics differ significantly. We don't really have an equivalent for Stern/Vanguard veterans. Bran Scalphunter
* very Brock Samson-esque eye twitch* Codex: Space Wolves very clearly states which units are take from Codex: Space Marines. If it's not listed in C:SW as an option that can be taken from C:SM, we can't take it. So we can't Sternguard, Masters of the Forge, Vanguard, or Special Characters (some may argue that Chronus and Telion can be, but that's not the point of this thread). None of our units replace the units from C:SM, our units are completely separate. Grey Hunters are close to what Tacticals would be, but are actually closer to a 4th Edition Veteran Squad. Our Blood Claws are the closest equivalent to C:SM Scouts in terms of stat-wise. Function-wise, yes they are closest to Assault Squads, but they are different. Every unit in C:SW is different and has to be used accordingly different than the units in C:SM. *more eye twitching* Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/172757-space-marines-and-space-wolves/#findComment-2041609 Share on other sites
