Chronus and Telion

Codex: Space Wolves very clearly states which units are take from Codex: Space Marines. If it's not listed in C:SW as an option that can be taken from C:SM, we can't take it. So we can't Sternguard, Masters of the Forge, Vanguard, or Special Characters (some may argue that Chronus and Telion can be, but that's not the point of this thread).

So can Wolves use these characters or not?

Depends. Some see Chronus as an upgrade for tanks, so he can be taken. The same goes for Telion and Wolf Scout packs.

How I see it is as thus:

1 Wolf Scout Pack can take weapons from C:SM Scout Squad. Because it says weapons only, and Telion is not a weapon but an upgrade character, I say he can't be taken in a Wolf Scout Pack.

Chronus is more difficult though. Because we use the upgrade options for vehicles from C:SM as those are in the unit choices, and Chronus works as an upgrade for a single tank in a SM army, he could be taken (theoretically). But since no tank has the direct option in their unit entry of taking Chronus (he's a separate entry in the army list), I do not believe a C:SW tank can take Sergeant Chronus as an upgrade.

I agree w/ the other posts here. As cool as those characters may be, we as SW players are hamstrung by our ancient codex. The entries that say we may take from C:SM are great for us, but, unfortunately, any special characters in C:SM are, I think, off limits for us.

C'est la vie... ;)

Definite NO to telion- theres no scout seargent to replace and our scouts have nothing in common but one set of weapons.

That being said I argue for our ability to take chronus- I wont do so myself as I dont think hes worth the points, but hes a vehicle upgrade in my book, not a special character. Heck, in some areas hes not even an extra KP- you just have to kill him to get the one for the vehicle.

My interpretation is that Chronus could be chosen as he is an upgrade for a vehicle rather than anything else. However, personally (despite that bit in the SM codex about named characters representing heroes from other chapters etc) I wouldn't use him as he is quite expensive and not very 'wolfy' in my book.

Telion is also phrased as an upgrade. However, he replaces a sergeant and we don't have one, so his 'position' clearly doesn't exist. He also isn't a weapon upgrade is he? We also have the option to include the infinitely more versatile pack leader options and OBEL rule anyway...

In short, avoid both, but if you must use them check with opponents/organisers first.

In the case of Chronus, he is purchased as an upgrade to a tank. All of our tank rules (Except the Exterminator) come from Codex Space Marines.

Although the arguing factor here is that the tank rules don't make any mention of Chronus. Only his unit entry does. :)

The one bit of hope I want to provide, though, is that if you look through C:SM and the new IG codex, GW has LOTS of new and old special characters in both books. the new IG dex brought back atleast three older SC's, so let's hope they continue this trend with us. I figure this surge in SC's is probably to do with Planetstrike and Apocalypse, but what do I know?

Stormcaller for the win!

How is it we can't get camo cloaks then? they're an option much like chronos for tanks yet our scouts arn't allowed them, only weapons. I'd like chrono's for my army though since I use alot of tanks.

Because they arent a "weapon option" available to scouts, theyre a "wargear option" and that isnt an option from our codex.
