Corrode's Crimson Fists

Hey all,

I've been working on some Crimson Fists lately and thought I'd share. I'm not the most amazing painter in the world (far from it in fact :|) but I like how they're going so far. The Dread still needs another arm and all the Marines are missing left shoulder pads (I'm waiting until I stop being horribly poor so I can order some of those nice metal ones, since I suck at freehanding Fist symbols) but hey, this is Works in Progress after all.

Not bad at all mate. You're right, your not the most amazing painter in the world. If you were, we already know you from WD and Golden Demon!

They are a little dark, and I think the paint would do with being thinned a little. Looks too thick to me.

The paint does'nt look thick at all and IMO just a tiny little more highlighting and I would say pretty spot on mate. The paint maybe applied a bit fast(maybe you were in a rush with the SM and SMTchaplin). The blue colour is a good choice and I like it. The bare metals look good, dirty and worn. Maybe spend a little longer on the guns, cloth and the text, also more work on the chaplin is needed but like you say.. its a WIP.

Throw in some details and I'm sure they will look great. Forgot to say, so far the melta SM looks very real and not all shiny and clean, function over form.

It's not so much a rush as it is my terribly unsteady hand - oh to be able to draw or paint in a straight line  thank you both though, I'll try and pay a little more attention to the details. I don't think the highlights show up quite as well as they should - maybe a slightly lighter colour (so far they only go up as far as Ultramarines Blue) applied after the wash might make them pop a little more.

Re: thick/thin paint - I'm never quite sure on that one. It's a judgement that was never used when I was younger, and seems to be the wargaming community's version of 'sharp knees' nowadays. These lads get a Necron Abyss basecoat (unthinned), Regal Blue (thin), then highlighted and washed - I'm loath to use thinned basecoats since the last time I tried that it turned out horribly patchy.

Here's the Assault Marine Sergeant:

I gave him a second quick highlight after the wash to see if that gave him a little more contrast. I also (and this is the biggie) took a photo with proper lighting :tu: I think it's working - am I deluded?

The fist does have more contrast IRL as well, I can't seem to get a decent photo of it sadly. Anyway, once again, comments welcome.
