Grey Knight question

Recommended Posts

A question that has been bugging me for a while:

As per the wargear section of C:DH, Grey Knights in power armor may not select weapons from the armory. My question is: If you purchase Artificer armor or Terminator armor (or even carapace armor, but why would you want to do that) from the Wargear section for your Justicar, can you then upgrade his weapons? (as technically he is no longer a power-armored Grey Knight)

Thanks

Wow... thats a nifty loophole.

only nifty if you have points to spare. it usually is not worth the cost in the end.

lets say you give a justicar artificer armor, he alone would cost more then a brother captain in terminator armor. now lets exchange his storm bolter, the only thing you could really change it for is either another gun, or a power weapon. the power weapon would be pointless because you already get the +1 attack for haveing a storm bolter with his nemisis weapon. so that leaves only one of 2 really good options. either a psycannon, or an incinerator. the psycannon would make this guy almost cost as much as 2 regular guys with psycannons, while the incinerator seems like it would only be really useful if you could get close enough to use it.

in the end... this already expensive guy would almost be doubleing in points and he still wouldnt even have an invulnerable save.

i always felt that a regular terminator should be leading the squads, as that seems to be whats in the fluff.

Terminator armour can only be bought for inquisitors. But yes, that is an interesting loophole. But as said before, totally worthless (save the expression on your opponent's face...or Army Builder), just like the Artificer armour Lightning claw refractor field Stormtrooper sergeant. Good times.

Too bad a justicar is already massively overpriced at 50pts.

His price isn't that horrendous; for 25 pts over a standard PAGK he gets the extra attack, better leadership, and his NFW becomes a power weapon. It's more that normal PAGKs are overpriced.

he doesnt really get better leadership as the squad is already 10 and fearless. the other points how ever are true and it is good, but being double the cost of a regular trooper just sucks when the terminators are 4 points less and get the best armor out there.

No, normal PAGK are Ld 8, the Justicar is Ld 9. Of course, Fearless does make the squad's Ld value much less important than it normally is. The Justicar costing twice as much as normal troops hurts, but every army pays a lot of points for their sergeants if they're getting any wargear on them. I frequently see SM armies whose sergeants cost more than a Justicar.

Sorry, Master_Matteo, but PAGK have Ld 8, Justicars increase it to 9. Only GKT, BC and GM have 10. The upgrade "costs" of 25 are every good. A normal SM sarge costs more if you equip him.

The GK are very balanced, I think. The only thing that makes them weak is that other races have that-special-uber-unit/rule or super cheap units.

50p are a little high for a single GK with some extras, but I see it as squad base costs, that reward people for taking bigger squads.

edit: Chengar was faster ^_^
