Z4k
Basically this is what the title says: a tutorial on how I make open books. Sorry for three things, first if this is a stupid idea and shouldn't be its own thread, and second that there are no painted pics, I'm not doing much 40k right now and so haven't acctually painted any models with these books on them, finally I'm sorry if this doesn't flow very well . . . I'm 'good' like that :P So here goes... You will need: Paper Suitably thick cardboard (for this I have used cardboard from a cereal box) Scissors/hobby knife PVA glue A brush for glue I find these help: Ruler Pencil Tweezers (to position pages and to stop them sticking to your fingers) 1. Cut out the cover of the book for your chosen cardboard, if you wish mark like so: http://i242.photobucket.com/albums/ff21/zink18/Book1s.jpg I am a very methodical person and this just helps me position the pages, for this tutorial I will assume that you have drawn them. (Note the solid line is in the middle and the dashed lines are slightly more towards the solid line than half way between it and the edge.) 2. Cut out pages of the book, from the paper, a millimetre or so smaller than each half you your cover. 3. Cut some of these in half. 4. Brush the cover liberally with the watery glue and place a half-page-thingy on each dotted line (this is to give the pages the kind of curve that a real book has, when lying open, even though on a real book there is nothing there... repeat, as you deem necessary, liberally coating the pages in glue between layers. http://i242.photobucket.com/albums/ff21/zink18/Book2s.jpg 5. Repeat step four, using the 'whole' pages. http://i242.photobucket.com/albums/ff21/zink18/Book3s.jpg 6. Rejig pages and you see fit and leave to dry. The book sometimes gets smaller as the glue dries, os you may wish to put on more pages. http://i242.photobucket.com/albums/ff21/zink18/Book5s.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/173107-modelling-how-i-make-books/ Share on other sites
Tyrannicide
I went ahead and added this to the Librarium. Hopefully it's okay with you. Any problems with the article or the 'Author' box just let me know! :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/173107-modelling-how-i-make-books/#findComment-2046488 Share on other sites
Z4k
No, thats all fine, thank you VERY much, I'm not sure that 'avid' is accurate (I've been a bit too busy for 40k in the last few months, alhtough I'm slowly getting back into it), although 'lurking' is definitely accurate... Thanks again! Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/173107-modelling-how-i-make-books/#findComment-2047199 Share on other sites
Tyrannicide
Haha, glad you like it. I just browsed through the topics you created and saw you were attached to the Inquisition forum the most and seemed to like the Grey Knights, so I went with it. I can change it if you'd like, it's no problem. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/173107-modelling-how-i-make-books/#findComment-2047236 Share on other sites
